I was pretty sure it wasn't a problem related to BtS, but now that it has occurred with no other programs running, I'm starting to think that there's something between BtS and Snow Leopard that's causing kernel panics.

For the record, I was playing the Charlemagne mod at the time (not that it matters any). The symptoms of the kernel panic include the background music starting to stutter or cut out. Wonder movies are literally slideshowing off 10-second delays. I've only seen this happen on BtS, and not any other application (I haven't tried it with vanilla or Warlords, just BtS).

Any idea what could cause this?

No idea, but no one here is likely to be able to help with this sort of issue. You need to contact Aspyr Support.

Yes, a buggy Radeon driver. ;-) Immediately before or after the panic, check kernel.log (you can inspect it in the Console app, in /private/var/log) and look for something about the ATI driver. It'll probably look like so, followed by a bunch of numbers:

I've seen this happen in a few different 3D apps on Snow Leopard on the Radeon x1600 cards now, so we've opened a bug with Apple about it.

No kernel panics here yet, but it is completely unplayable even on all the lowest detail settings on my 2.33 GHz MacBook Pro with Radeon x1600 card under 10.6.1. Frame rate is about 5 fps and it takes an eternity between turns and to start up.

Strange because the Windows version runs fine on the same machine under boot camp and the Mac version does as well on my iMac also running 10.6.1.

Sorry to bump but I'm seriously bummed that it's unplayable on a MacBook Pro that ironically has no problem running the PC version smoothly. Anyone hear anything from Aspyr or Apple as to a fix?
