The microphone on my PC161s died after I guess after it was knocked off my desk for the third time in 2 days a month ago (I had them for 11 months) and I just can't decide on another headset to get, since I don't want to shell out money for something that is not correct.

I'm willing to spend around $100-150 CANADIAN on them.

I'm tempted by the Sennheiser 350s but they are $200 and apparently don't seem to have bass (although I have no idea how they compare to my 161s).

Alternatively I was considering getting a good quality mic I can clip on or tap to my headset.

It doesn't have to be a brand new model, as long as it is still sold somewhere with reasonable shipping (ie no more than $20 if that) I will be happy (there would have to be really good headsets that are no longer in production unless somehow everything that isn't new is crap).

I always buy the $10 headphones with mic and replace them every 6 months when they stop working.

One of the local department stores. No idea what brand they are, but they're cheap and have decent sound quality.

I can understand paying very small amount for microphones, since the sound sent through games kind of suck anyway. But using 10$ headphones is an insult to the sound guys at the gaming company!

Any sort of Sennheiser set is great. I have the small Sennheiser PX 100. They're like 40-50$ and they sound better than pretty much all the over-ear headphones I tried in the 60-80$ range...

Slight problems maybe: the pressure on the ears can get a little uncomfortable after many hours of wearing them, and the cable is a little short. They are rather small and I guess they could be fragile with the collapsible parts and all, but mine still work and I think I did yank them accidentally quite a few times.

I guess you could check out the 200 model?

EDIT: I just re-read your post and saw that only the microphone died. I dunno, if you really like the PC161's sound, just ignore the dead microphone and keep using the headset, buy a crappy microphone that you can attach to your head in some other way, hehe. I wear my PX100 on my head, and I have a cheap headset in the PC161 style around my neck with the microphone propped up to my mouth.

I've been thinking of doing that with my 161s on my head and a Creative LabsŪ HS-1200 Digital Wireless Gaming Headset. My roommate has that headset and the mic is loud and clear after 2 years of use and abuse.

Unfortunately I can't find anywhere to buy them that is either in stock, a decent price or ships to Canada. I'll probably get an attachable mic.
