I don't know how many of you have played Colonization for Windows , but I think it works pretty good. I like the intro a bit better, but notice that it's not exactly the same as the DOS version is some aspects. I recently picked up the CD on Ebay just to see the difference...I can say that even though it says it doesn't work on Win95, it doesn't give me as much trouble as the DOS version...go figure.

Hmmm...I don't have XP but judging from the age of the game SunTzu, I would highly recommend getting an old 486 to keep around the house. You can easily pick up a laptop for 20 or 30 bucks on ebay (with a color screen even!). I've got an old 486 AST in my son's room and I play it when he's not home...I played on Windows 95 without any trouble but when I changed my screen resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768 the damn thing freaked out on me!
So you might also consider the video...which might be doing it too...

Hey man! You're right!...believe it or not, I've been around...I just log on read a few things and then I have to go to bed...sucks these days...wayyyyyy too much homework that I really really don't want to do (busy work). On the other hand...I'm about due to get some stuff uploaded again...hehe!

Col for Win is still out there...I picked up a CD on ebay for 6 bucks I think...just so that I could experience it...

Thanks for agreeing with me SunTzu!...hehe...it's good to see that everyone is still as enthusiastic as ever...I've been getting a lot of things together too...better time management usually helps me to get online a little more....

What I would like to see is Col2 completed :)

Here's my take (and maybe some help).

(Windows 98 Second Edition)

When the window appears with the Founding Father (FF), go ahead and click the screen. An error will happen.

(Cancel or Ignore)

As quick as you can, start clicking Ignore...continue till the screen appears giving you the option to read about the FF. X it out and save right then. Quit the game and restart and load up the save, your then good till the next FF appears. (Boring, but it works)

(Next Problem)-Right clicking

Never right click unless your on a colonist outside of town. Right clicking on terrian will cause un explained crashes. Right Clicking on a colonist in a town will cause a crash.

(Options I have disabled)

(1)Auto Save

No others, I can play music off of the Game CD or any Music CD.

Good luck, hope this helps some.

I luv Colonization but dislike the Win ver. Doesn't have the same 'feeling' as DOS ver.

I have the DOS Colonization, I play it on my 95 & the 98SE computers w/out any trouble. I can not get to run on my wife's XP Home unit at all. I never even knew that ther was a Windows ver.. I think I'll up-gread the 98SE unit to XP Pro. or Home. So I would like to run Colonization on an XP computer. Can any one help me?

My wife is playing it right now on an XP machine. It really shouldn't be a problem to play it.

I've to say I don't like the Win version. The figures are too small and they look bad. I freaked out after I saw the first pictures. Immediately I walked back to the good old DOS-version. Hmm nice  the graphic is much better for my eyes.

Aaaagh! I tried the 3.1 version once and it was buggier than an ant farm. I strictly play the DOS version, which gets along just fine with Win98. :)

Well, I do agree about how the graphics are different- but I've been playing a lot of games and if there is a programer out there it would be very cool to see the windows versions with graphics that are just slightly lighter and larger.

I still like the windows version because it lacks the bugs and risk of lock-up I get with the DOS version (although I will admit that Win98 SE solves most of those problems that I had in Win95b).

But you can beat the speed at which it plays- I'm telling you guys it is fast! Maybe it's just my machine. I'm going to load it on the other computer this weekend and I'll load DOS and Windows versions and try 'em again. I wish I had a CD instead of diskettes for the DOS version, maybe I'll pick that one up on eBay too.

Anyone hear anything about a remake of Colonization? Or Colonization 2?
