Thanks BK! I think Civ III unit making will always be my favorite pass time and hobby, even though I don't have as much time lately.
Ares de Borg Sep 20, 2009, 09:47 PM Thank you very much! Good to see some more German units. :)
general-jcl Sep 20, 2009, 11:01 PM Superb!
Thank you very much
Ozymandias Sep 21, 2009, 12:41 AM Sweet. Glad you're keeping this up
Best,
Oz
Adler17 Sep 21, 2009, 03:02 AM Erm, superb unit. And I don't want to critizise that much. However, no soldier would have hold the weapon at the magazine. It would crack the gun.
Adler
W.i.n.t.e.r Sep 21, 2009, 04:19 AM Excellent addition :) hmmm... one Q., though: How will this unit be implemented next to you already wonderful dark grey Kriegsmarine (i.e. winter uniform) unit?
ps. @Adler: The MP40 is not held at the magazine. There is a handguard just above it into which the mag is inserted.

General 666 Sep 21, 2009, 09:03 AM Superb Unit ,Gary !:goodjob: Can hardly wait for the rest ...:D
Ares de Borg Sep 21, 2009, 09:47 AM Btw, check my sound library, I have MP40 sounds in there.
Vuldacon Sep 21, 2009, 12:27 PM Congratulations on another Fine Unit Addition Gary :goodjob:
Always look forward to your Units... Glad you still have some time to continue making them :)
Virote_Considon Sep 21, 2009, 02:25 PM Awesome! I think he'll be very useful! :)
Gary Childress Sep 21, 2009, 08:18 PM Excellent addition :) hmmm... one Q., though: How will this unit be implemented next to you already wonderful dark grey Kriegsmarine (i.e. winter uniform) unit?
Well. I'm thinking I may do a Kriegsmarine with camo. That way he will look more like a combat unit and a little less like a parade unit. Maybe the white shirt wasn't such a great idea after all?
Thank you everyone for the kudos. Now that I have the basic animations done I should be able to whip out a few MP40 units reasonably quick. :)
Steph Sep 21, 2009, 10:13 PM I like the white shirt, but I think it may have been better with a rifle for early what if marines (like WWI).
Arexander Sep 22, 2009, 03:15 AM Well after all it's a unit from WWII. :)
Great unit Gary! I'll be waiting for more MP40s.
Adler17 Sep 22, 2009, 09:55 AM WINTER, if you have a careful look on the picture, he has the hands on the magazine and not the handguard. That's why I said that.
Steph, Kriegsmarine marines were in action to take the British Channel islands and in the Med, too. (Not to speak about the units used in the last fights.)

Adler17 Sep 22, 2009, 09:58 AM Last critic: The so called Deutscher Gruß was not used in the Kriegsmarine very much until the plot in 1944 failed. And even then it wasn't popular.
Adler
Tank_Guy#3 Sep 22, 2009, 12:41 PM Great unit! Awesome addition to your collection!
OT: Also, even when firing blanks, don't let the barrel touch your bare skin. Even after you fire a short burst.
I heard our gruppenfuhrers(spelling?) skin sizzling from about 15ft away. Of course the swearing quickly confirmed it. But he was quick thinking enough to do so in German.

Adler
Deutscher Gruß? You mean the Heil Hitler salute? I didn't use a Deutscher Gruß for this unit. If you notice, his fidget is drinking water and his victory is a "yahoo" motion.
As far as his grip, I guess I can adjust that a little in the Attack animation but it should be fine for the default and fun animations.
Adler17 Sep 23, 2009, 02:27 AM Yes, I meqant Heil Hitler. And yes, after seeing it again, you're right. No problems.
Adler
Tank_Guy#3 Sep 23, 2009, 02:48 AM I think that at civ scale, it does look a bit like he's grabbing the grip and not the magazine.

Indeed ,the "Heil Hitler salute" was called "Deutscher Gruß" or "Hitler Gruß".
There`s absolutly NO need for further adjustments ,I think. The Unit can stay like it is.
montizzle Sep 23, 2009, 07:21 PM Erm, superb unit. And I don't want to critizise that much. However, no soldier would have hold the weapon at the magazine. It would crack the gun.
Adler
What do you mean by that? Is this weapon that fragile? I have little experience with German weapons from the second world war, but I carried a rifle derisively referred to as a "mattel toy," and never damaged it by holding the magazine. Is it the lack of a mag well?
General 666 Sep 24, 2009, 03:05 AM I like the white shirt, but I think it may have been better with a rifle for early what if marines (like WWI).
I like playing AoI. The german "Naval Infantry" El Justo is curenntly using is the "Boer Rifleman" ,I think. So if you put him a Rifle in the hands ,I surely would use him for AoI. I can hardly say what El Justo thinks about this ,but I second the idea of Steph.
But I wouldn`t talk of better.:)

mhhh- there used to be a WWI era postcard pic on the net depicting such a German landing team, white shirts, dark trousers, with rifles, sailor hats and sun helmets. Will see if I can still find it. Was ages ago that I stumbled over it.

Now Germany only lacks the early infantryman in feldgrau uniform with jackboots to replace that icky piece from PTW... :mischief:

Redback Dec 05, 2010, 07:16 AM Happy Holidays Civfanantics!! I added a new unit to this series, a Fallschirmjager.
It's only been a year since the last update!
STOP OPENING OLD THREADS! Hahaha no iam joking!
I am I real fan of your units, still using them alot. Really happy to see you 'back'.
Still, I wonder what is 'wrong' with your old Fallmjager?? This one looks great, but are you planning to do redo all of them??
Iam also hoping you will recolor your modern soldier one of these days in desert color. (request ;-) )
BadKharma Dec 05, 2010, 10:38 AM Nice to see you back! And great job on that Green-devil!
ShiroKobbure Dec 05, 2010, 10:49 AM looks great welcome back!
W.i.n.t.e.r Dec 06, 2010, 02:28 PM Nice to see you back! And great job on that Green-devil!
The name "Green Devils" was gained from their green splinter cammo during the Italian campaign, when they were employed as shock infantry. Looking quite smooth there, Gary =) nice to see this line is still being worked on =) Any plans for an African set with Afrika Korps, Italian, French, UK and some Spanish troops :) ? (I know i am evil asking)
Ares de Borg Dec 06, 2010, 05:15 PM Thank you for the new unit :) I hope there's more to come (like your soviet soldier and early-war german infantry)
;)
themanuneed Dec 06, 2010, 06:25 PM Thanks guys! I hope to knock out a couple units over the holidays. working on a new series now. :) That's good news :) Nice pack here Gary :goodjob:
Gary Childress Dec 06, 2010, 06:37 PM I'm going to try to add a couple more units to my catalog over the holidays. Unfortunately my RL work keeps me so busy that it's hard to find time to do much else. I wish I could say that's a bad thing but in this economy I obviously can't complain.
Afrika Korps, now that's an idea. Maybe I'll try squeezing in another MP40 unit before I move on.
