View Full Version : Fair trade diplo bonus - details?

I'm interested in the inner workings of the diplo fair trade bonus. I was semi-challenged to play some AggAI&NoTechTrading games where this bonus is the holy grail - Friendly (or Pleased, depending on the AI) AIs are a great asset and the bonus is hard to come by without the possibility of gifting techs or lopsided tech trades.

Now, I know that the diplo bonus gained is inversely proportional to the time you've know the Civ, and directly proportional to the value of the gift, or the lopsidedness of a trade. What I'd like to know is if there are other factors, and the actual formula used in this, if there is one - especially for gifting gold. It's a bummer to gift a couple hundred gold pieces and get no bonus at all.

Are there set boundaries for gifting gold when you get this or does it have a random element?
Is it linear with regards to the time known or some other sort of a function?
Is it scaled for game speed?
I think I recall getting the bonus from liberating cities as well (in addition to the city liberation bonus) - is this true or am I delirious?
Is the calculated bonus per-trade only or is it cumulative over many (small) trades?

So many questions :D

A source dive could possibly get me an answer pretty easily (?), but I haven't had the time to set myself up an environment to do that. I tried a forum search but didn't see anything in the first few relevant hits.

I'd like to learn this info, too. For example, wen first making contact with civilizations on the other continent that are all annoyed because they think I am a heathen, I'd like to be able to figure out the exact amount of gold I need to give them to gain the minimum necessary "fair trade" bonus to bump them to cautious so I can trade techs with them.

In other words, I'd like to be able to purchase Manhattan island from the natives the minimum number of beads. Beads ain't cheap you know.
