This mod is not longer available for download and I no longer support it. For mods with more features and much better stability try one of these:

• History Rewritten (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=353049) by myself

• MAC BAT (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=342598) converted by myself

• Ethnic Mix More (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=337527) by Coffee Junkie

A little problem, is that !

At least anybody can combine VD 7.5 into a mod with BUG and Blue Marble for a pure Mac Mod ;)

This is a fabulous mod. Thanks for your hard work, Xyth (and those who came before you).

I've converted the Polynesia for VD optional extra and added it to the first post.

Done! See the solution I posted in the BUG thread :)

I've done very little compared to avain and other contributors to this fabulous mod, but thanks all the same :)

And successfully played (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=331262) with no problems (I used Shaka so the ethnic units would be most obvious)!

It was them I was referring to by "those who came before you", but your contributions have really enhanced my game experience, so thanks again.

Can you convert the MEE please?
Thank you

Oh, and leaders of VD

VD 8.0 is apparently being released soon, so once that's out I'll convert that and MEE at the same time. Leaders of VD too if it's not too tricky.

VD 8.0 update and Modern Era Expansion added to first thread. Let me know if I broke anything :)

EDIT: Working on Leaders of VD atm. I have it running without errors but there is a LOT of text garbage. Slowly cleaning it up as best I can.

Yes! Thanks Xyth, your work is much appreciated.

I downloaded the new update with MEE, and it crashes every time.

Hmm.

Firstly, when is it crashing? While the mod is loading, while the map is being generated or while playing? Are any error messages being displayed? The most likely situation is that it's clashing with something you have in Custom Assets. Open Mods/Varietas Delectat/Varietas Delectat.ini and look for the following line:

NoCustomAssets = 0

Change this to:

NoCustomAssets = 1

If it still crashes I'm at a bit of a loss as it's working fine for me. If Custom Assets was the issue let me know what mods you had in there (BUG, Blue Marble, etc) and I'll see if I can recreate it and find a fix.

Is anyone else having issues with this version (or the one without MEE)?

I've updated the first post with a download for Leaders of Varietas Delectat. It's not a standalone module so it's a little tricky to install. Just follow the directory structure carefully and only replace files, not whole folders.

Converting it took a while as there was a LOT of encoding errors to fix. Hopefully I've fixed the majority but I'm sure some slipped by me. If you see any text garbage (most probably in the Civilopedia or during diplomacy) let me know and I'll post fixes.

Only some of the new leaders have non-English translations, and I've not tested these beyond checking if the mod launches without error. Hopefully they came out okay and if not, let me know.

Enjoy :)

I tried that, still crashes whenever i try to load any sort of map.
I DO have the bug mod, but the whole nocustomassets thing did nothing.

When you it crashes are you getting any messages in your Console log or any of the BTS logs? I'll need more info so I can try reproduce it. It's not crashing for me with or without BUG and it doesn't make a difference what mapscript I use.

Could someone else try install it and let us know whether it works for them or not?

EDIT: Also doublecheck the size of the zip file in case it didn't download/upload properly. It should be 183.9MB (192.8MB on Snow Leopard)

Downloading VD 8.0 + Modern Era = 184 Mo on Snow Leopard

This whole alternate way of measuring disk and file size on SL confuses me greatly >< Safari says it's 184MB but Finder says its 192MB.

The important question is does it extract, install, load and play alright? It does for me, but I need to know whether I or skipper21136 is the exception so I can help him/her (and everyone) get it running.

Finder in Snow Leopard uses 1 megabyte = 1000 x 1000 bytes.

Finder in earlier Mac OS's used 1 megabyte = 1024 x 1024 bytes.

Safari in any OS is not doing anything with numbers, it's just displaying a sequence of characters that the server sends to it. If the server is counting in units of 2^10 (1,024) then that's what the browser displays.

Yeah. It's like daylight savings, even though I know how it works it still confuses me every time it happens heh.

Can you pack in the same Zip VD 8.0+Modern Era+Leaders of VD+Polynesia ?

Because it seems unintuitive this method you ask to make for copying files

Xyth

I have limited bandwidth and upload space to host these files, I can't post a full archive of every possible configuration sorry, especially if I start converting other modules like Hungary, Poland, etc. I made a full archive version that included MEE because installing MEE was really messy. By comparison, Leaders of VD and the Polynesia module are relatively straight forward to drag and drop install. I'll try and write clearer instructions in the first post.

I don't know how to write an installer for all these or I would.

EDIT: better instructions written, though they're more kinda guidelines. If anyone has any suggestions how I could make these modules easier to install (with a dedicated installer) please let me know. I've tried unarchiving in place but that just creates duplicate folders like Assets-1.

I can't get the Leaders module to work with VD, it always crashes to the desktop as soon as the map loads.

I've carefully installed, re-installed all the Leader files and believe I'm doing it correctly.

VD alone works, Leaders as a standalone works, VD+Polynesia works. However, after installing VD+Leaders, it always crashes.

The only other mod installed is Blue Marble.

Does this require BUG/BAT to be installed? Any other ideas?

Xyth

BUG isn't needed to run VD or Leaders of VD. BAT contains VD but not Leaders of VD.

In my experience most crash to desktops when the map loads seems to be caused by duplicated XML, i.e a civilization/leader/unit/etc defined in two or more places. However this obviously shouldn't happen with unaltered VD+Leaders :/

The first thing to try would be to disable your Custom Assets (in Varietas Delectat.ini) and see if that helps.

Tried disabling Custom Assets in Varietas Delectat.ini but it still crashed. However, I think I found the problem...

The following file in the LH Mod uses different names civ/unit art style names than the "base" VD file.

Assets/Modules/Varietas Delectat/XML/UnitArtStyles&CivInfos/VD_CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml

For example, the LH version of VD_CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml uses this for America:
<UnitArtStyleType>UNIT_ARTSTYLE_EUROPEAN</UnitArtStyleType>

Whereas the base VD version of VD_CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml uses this:
<UnitArtStyleType>UNIT_ARTSTYLE_USA</UnitArtStyleType>

The base VD file seems to contain the correct art styles for each civ, but does not contain the code for the additional Leaderheads. Rather than change the art style code in the LH file, I found it easier to simply add the Leaderhead code to the base VD file.

Not sure if this solves the root of the problem, but it seems to have worked. I now have unique, culture-specific unit art, as well as the new Leaderheads.

By the way, this is all with BAT 2.1. After yesterday's problems, I decided to use BAT to see if the VD file it contains worked any better (it did not). I downloaded the LH file from this thread.

Playing a game now to test - so far, so good.

Thanks for the heads up on the links, they're fixed now. I have been able to replicate this crash so I'll see if I can track down the issue.

Xyth
Nov 28, 2009, 01:57 PM
Yup that's exactly the issue, the game crashes when it tries to load artstyles that no longer exist. Good spotting. If you could attach the VD_CIV4CivilizationsInfos.xml you've fixed I'll add it in and replace the download.

Here it is. It wouldn't let me upload it as xml, so you'll have to save it down with that extension.

Definitely needs more testing when combined with BAT and/or VD.

By the way, thanks for converting these in the first place! VD/LH really add to the game!

Tried loading the mod but it crashes on me as it tries to load the game, after specifying the criteria for the game...

Disabling the CustomAssets addresses the issue; all I have installed is BlueMarble and TechWindow... here are the log entries from game launch to crash...

Hey all, I hope this isn't too much of a pain for anyone but I'm going to stop supporting this version of VD and encourage everyone to use MAC BAT (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=342598) (which contains VD) instead. It's a much more stable conversion, with more features, and I do not have the time to maintain two different versions to a decent standard.

MAC BAT is compatible with the optional modules in this thread (though some users have reported issues with Leaders of VD, I'm looking into it). I will endeavour to convert the Modern Era Expansion to MAC BAT, though with the madness of the Xmas season this will probably won't be until January.
