View Full Version : Request: Unit graphics: Railwaygun
Der PH Oct 08, 2002, 08:42 AM Someone of the unit graphics creators ever thought about making a railwaygun?
Of course it wouldn't be possible to restrict its moves to railways as it should be, but so what!
An example could be the german WW2 'Dora', an 80 cm gun with a range of 48 km.
It should have devastating bombard stats and the shield cost of a small wonder (just as the original).
joespaniel Oct 08, 2002, 02:47 PM Yeah, that would be very cool.
There was one in some Civ2 mods just like that.
Boulboulgadol Oct 08, 2002, 05:59 PM You know making a unit is quite a job !
Every creator here make fully usable units, that means I don't think somebody would make a unit while knowing he won't be able to use it like in reality.
This is a pretty good idea, but without railroad restriction, I just don't see the point...
OmniMower Oct 08, 2002, 06:04 PM HEAVY BOMBARDMENT is my point! :D with or without the railroad restriction....
CivGeneral Oct 08, 2002, 06:12 PM I have been waiting for someone to make a Railroad Gun. With or without Railroad restrcitions its a perfict unit :D.

Then just use a bomber... :D
Or the Rascal ;)
Architekt Oct 08, 2002, 06:29 PM But there "must" be a way of restricting it to railroad somehow.. hmmmm?

The only way would be to make it unusable or useless when off the railroads. If you give it a 1 move, for example.
OmniMower Oct 08, 2002, 06:36 PM But how do we make this BIG gun justice in the 240x240 pixel limit???

That's the biggest problem, I can see.

I tried to give a unit a 0-movement rate, but the editor didn't accept it.

Just compare an infantry unit to a battleship and then quickly forget about scaling!
Just make the railwaygun as big as possible and it will be O.K.

... so true! :D
trevort Oct 09, 2002, 08:18 AM In real life the German railway guns were transported in several sections and then assembled on their own curved railway (to allow them to be aimed).Might it be possible to simulate this in the unit animation?
