Here's my WIP: a Celtic city style. Preview:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=230755&d=1255315162

I am not going to make this 4-era as I don't know how. This style itself just an image-edited photo.

So what do you guys think? The preview's kinda poor quality.

Nice look. Combined with that terrain, it's very photo-realistic. A bit de-populated, however.

That's a very interesting approach

I like them alot, I would use them for the first era in my Euro cities.

I made another building from the ones in your preview, I don't know if I should post it, since this is your WIP, if you like I could post a preview or I could just wait and add it after you post your final work.

I wouldn't mind a preview.

And I'm pretty happy with them right now, but there's one problem: they look weird on desert. I'll show you:

Well, on second thought, they're not so weird. But I would want you guys' opinion anyway.

Maybe add some terrain to the outside of the city and then spraycan some transparant colour around the outside to try and get something that will transition better into other terrain types.

They look so stark  Its very different from the highly colorful creations we've been seeing on here for years. I'm not saying its bad, I think I like it, but its very.. different. Very original idea and process

Rather than add grass around it, I would cut out the interior grass so that whatever terrain it is on mixes with the city.

Also these look really good, but you need equally good terrain to match - for example I don't think those trees look realistic enough by comparison. I would have to darken them, at least.

I like the way it looks alot! The photo-realistic look really brings a different feel to everything. It probably would not be tremendously difficult to add photo-realistic trees to Civ3.

My suggestion was on how to transition to other terrains, I never suggested what background to use. The attached pick was just to show the concept.

Europe 3000BC. Brings you right in that timeframe.
I like these towns, I wouldn't alter things, just perhaps expand on it like Pounder did.

No, but I will work on it. In a second, I'll put the spray paint idea into it.

So in a hour maybe, I'll have a new preview :D

Huayna Capac357,

From your previews I just completed a set as well,.

I don't want to post or preview them, because I don't know if you plan to enter your work in the monthly, I don't want to steal your work, etc....

If it is okay with you, after you have completed and posted your work, I will add them(with credits to you) to my euro city set, so I will have 3 eras done, only the modern to go.

Oh, I don't really care about entering these in the monthly. You'd probably do a better job with these then I would. Please preview and post!

You can add me to the credits if you wish but if you don't I won't be insulted :)

These were only going to be a single-era anyway.

I didn't change them too much, hope you approve.

Ugh! go back. I love the ones you originally posted (with Pounder's tweaks). I wouldn't worry so much about blending with desert terrain. Celts don't live on deserts anyway.

Probably not. (points vigorously to links in signature line..)

After Balthasars correct critique, I made another set, with a single wall around each city size and a double wall for the walled town.

With the vegetation, they will transition with any terrain including coast, I tried to get them to touch most terrain types in the preview.

Those are just the purdiest thangs ah eva saw, Pounder, but I'm also very fond of the way Huayna did the shadows and highlights on the lawn inside the walls (referring to the first post again) that made it look slightly sunken into the surrounding terrain. Between the two of you, these are really stunning.

thanks!

I would have liked capture some of those elements as well, but adding buildings, paths, etc... that I wanted to be visable, having to resize and re-shape the walls for each city size and which also allowed the double walled city to be created, adding the vegetation to help with the transition to terrains other than grassland and also coastal areas.

I guess there was some give and take.

I may take a look at them again.
