View Full Version : oblivion
bill2505 Oct 17, 2009, 09:52 AM i want to create an elder scroll oblivion game
the factions is going to be
Altmer (a.k.a. High Elves)
Argonian
Bosmer (a.k.a. Wood Elves)
Breton
Dunmer (a.k.a. Dark Elves)
empire
Khajiit
Nord
Orc (a.k.a. Orsimer, Pariah Folk, or Corrupted Elves)
Redguard
plus the bads one from oblivion and maybe shivering isles
if you want to help officially or unofficially (in both cases there are going to be credits) i will need members with basic modding skills
i need someone that can make leader heads:king:
one that can make units will be appreciated
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////
how i am thinking units will be.those that are oblivion fans or that have played the game knows that not all races have their own armor
ARMORS THAT ONLY ONE OR TWO FACTION IS GOING TO HAVE
ELVES http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-item-Elven_Armor.jpg(ALL ELVES)
IMPERIAL HEAVY ARMOR http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-Legion_Rider.jpg AND LIGHT ARMOR http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB_NPC_Bravil_Guard.jpg
ORCS http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-item-Orcish_Armor.jpg
DEADRA http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-item-Daedric_Armor.jpg
DWARFS http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-item-Dwarven_Armor.jpg
THE ARMOR THAT 2 OR MORE FACTIONS CAN USE LIKE the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OB-item-Iron_Armor.jpg about the combat value we will take in consideration the race stats ,for example an orc in heavy iron armor hill have better defence and attack than a human soldiers will the same armor
tom2050 Oct 17, 2009, 12:58 PM If Bethesda Softworks does not mind their units being converted over to Civ 3, it may be possible to do it that way. But I will not do so if I am unsure of how they may react, such as someone warned against converting Blizzard units. If you wish, you can find out by sending an email to Bethesda Softworks asking them kindly; I can do so, but it would probably be a while before I get around to it. If they are ok with it, then I can look into converting those units. I am a big elder scroll fan, so it would be great to see something like this move forward.

WildWeazel Oct 17, 2009, 01:44 PM Some questions to get you started:
What will be the focus and scope of the mod?
Will it be a scenario with pre-placed cities and units, or an empty map?
What are the victory conditions?
What timeframe does the mod cover?
Will you represent the Daedra and the plane of Oblivion? How?
How will you fill in missing information like tech trees and resources?
bill2505 Oct 17, 2009, 03:00 PM hello tom
i didnt know that i should do this
will i need to mail directly the company or should i post in bethesda forum
if they accept ok
if they dont i will try to get units from other mod that look like
thanks for wanting to help

Some questions to get you started:i will give the information but some may change in the future
What will be the focus and scope of the mod?i have oblivion.
Will it be a scenario with pre-placed cities and units, or an empty map?at the start is going to be a random map.if i find a a mapper or i will succeed into converting an image into map
What are the victory conditions?at the start is going to be to kill everyone else
What timeframe does the mod cover?it is going to be the time of oblivion.about the exact time it is going to be discussed
Will you represent the Daedra and the plane of Oblivion? How?yes the daedra i am thing to make them a faction but the question is if they are going to be with camoran(correct me )faction or stand alone.some good daedra going to be mercenaries for good factions.planes iam thinking to represent them in 3ways .1 will generate daedra 2 somewhere i read about transporting units without airplanes like teleport ,if it is true iwill do it .3 i need to research some things first
How will you fill in missing information like tech trees and resources? first of all i will play the game ,read books in game to find as much i can .about tech i am going to borrow some things from other fantasy and medieval mods.resources:i have some in find .the rest we are going to borrow them from other medieval mod(even at the word of tamriel they were eating cheese )
more question please
if someone elder scroll fanatic (having or not modding skill)want to join the team is more than welcome
we can discuss things for the mod

I went ahead and sent an email to them... I feel overloaded with stuff to do lately, so got a bit lazy :) I'll let you know what they say when I get a response.

bill2505 Oct 18, 2009, 01:43 PM what is oblivion :Oblivion is an RPG (Role-Playing Game) and is a fantasy game, with mythical creatures, and with swords and bows and magic, it takes a while to get sick of it.The story takes place in Tamriel a Place with kings ,monsters, magic and many more but the most important is the eternal battle of good vs evil
Emperor: "Men are but flesh and blood. They know their doom, but not the hour."
history of tamriel: Tamriel, the central place of the light and darkness conflict, has a long line of history. From the Dawn Era when the gods walk on the land and the Merethic Era to the Third Era of the glorious Septim Dynasty. The book of history records so many mortal (and immortal) struggles, so many great creations and so many unfortunate endings.
IF I FIND ENOUGH INFORMATION THE TECH AGE IS GOING TO BE SPLIT INTO
Dawn Era(i dond thing it will be in but we will see)
Merethic Era
First Era
Second Era
Third Era
Fourth Era
if the mod advances a bit more previews are going to come:p
Dumanios Oct 18, 2009, 02:16 PM bill2505,you can only have 4 eras...:(
bill2505 Oct 18, 2009, 02:51 PM i know. i am going to unite them:)
Dawn Era(i dond thing it will be in but we will see)+Merethic Era or just Merethic Era
First Era+Second Era
Third Era+Fourth Era
Plotinus Oct 19, 2009, 02:27 PM I don't see how you could "convert" units from Oblivion. It's a first-person-perspective 3D game. It doesn't have any kind of sprites that you could convert into flic format for Civ III.
You would have to create new units from scratch that are intended to look like the characters and creatures from Oblivion, or use already existing ones that resemble them tolerably well. You certainly don't need to ask Bethesda's permission to do the latter and I doubt you'd need it to do the former.
bill2505 Oct 19, 2009, 03:38 PM these are great news but tom means like the photos.if there is a copyright if you post that photo it gets deleted but that is great new:)

Initially I thought Sprites with 8 directions where required to do a conversion, but I discovered about 2-3 weeks ago that is not the case at all. And it is probably easier than I could have ever imagined it being (although a time consuming process, Doing a sprite conversion takes 2 hours or less, doing a convresion of a 3d model from NWN takes around 4+ hours probably).
Well, to convert them would probably be something vaguely similar to the way that units are converted from NWN. NWN is also set up in 3d (although the only time I think I've played it was very long ago), but the model/texture/animation information is then exported and imported into 3ds Max, which then needs to be exported again with the correct model setup's etc., and the BMP's need to be output for each direction, motion, so on... to get everything that is needed to use complete the FLC; then the normal conversion process takes place. I haven't dwelled too far into the specific's of how to do it yet (if it can be done), but it seems there are many tools available for the product, even to make creatures, so it's likely there are the available tools to use to do a similar procedure. The main things that are needed are tools to convert certain game formats over to formats usable by graphics programs (which I am almost 100% sure exist for Oblivion!).
Technically, as long as those types of file extension conversion programs are availabe, then almost any unit from any 3d game there is could be converted, the only big difference may be the ease of doing some games compared to others. NWN falls into the category of fairly easy, but monotonous. Some 3d games probably cannot have units converted if no tools are available to work with for those programs.
The Demon of Torment unit is a 3d Model from NWN (I did not do the original conversion so it was easier doing that one, but I still need to look into setting up the Magnenta shadow in 3ds Max, although everything else is ready to go for converting 3d Models).
The reason I would prefer to check is that if some companies such as Blizzard will go to extremes to keep there units from being used, I would much rather know ahead of time, before dumping hours and hours of work into it, just to have it all go to waste.
Tom
Plotinus Oct 21, 2009, 05:32 AM So you're saying you can use the 3D models that Oblivion uses to create units? That's pretty interesting. I'm not sure I'd call it converting since you are presumably actually creating new renders from the models - but that's just a matter of words. Still, that does sound to me like something you'd probably need permission for - but I think the way to check this would be to ask on an Oblivion modding forum or somewhere like that.
tom2050 Oct 22, 2009, 10:11 AM I will wait for an email reply, but asking in the oblivion forum's is likely to get replies from users, and not anyone from the company, but I suppose I could do so eventually just to see what is said.
BTW, Bill2505, is this going to be an Epic Map and Scenario? To make an oblivion mod, I would say you have your work cut-out for you. A Map needs to be made, all the creatures put in (of course this is highly dependent on whether the Bethesda says Yes or No - If they say No you would have to mostly use existing units), Techs (since there were no tech's in the game, I guess you could add things such as Level-Up's; Endurance, Strength, Alchemy, etc...), and all the other tons of stuff.
Tom
WildWeazel Oct 22, 2009, 10:33 AM Forum users may at least know if there is a policy, same as we knew for example that PTW extras could be shared but not C3C artwork.

it is going to be a complete mod like those in Completed Modpacks.
about the tech some of them is going to be borrowed from other medieval mods.i have a basic modding skill and i am not going to do many things. it is my first mod and i need a bit of patience from you thats why i am workin over wh2.5 mod because they have many similarities .i stared this mod because there should be an oblivion mod.
about units if Bethesda say yes we will us them
tom2050 Nov 24, 2009, 01:16 AM Well, I have looked into it, and it is fully possible to convert Oblivion units to Civ3... perhaps I will post one soon since no email was ever received back from Bethesda when I asked if they would mind creating a Civ3 Oblivion mod (sent 3 emails, bill2505 said he sent one as well). This way, if 1 is up for a while, perhaps I will know if they mind or not.
Not only that, but while I was digging up information, it seems all Civ 4 units can be converted to Civ 3 also :) Maybe I will convert one of those also and post it.
Of course, I need to actually go through doing a unit first, to see what needs to be done. For Civ 4 units, I'll need to check into it further to see what all it would take.
Anyone think that 2K would mind converting their units to their own game? :)

bill2505 Nov 26, 2009, 12:58 AM some more info i have added
tom2050 Nov 26, 2009, 07:33 AM more info ?? on the conversion from Oblivion ?
If that is what you are asking, converting a 3d unit takes time, the render alone takes a couple days... not to mention determining what frames to use, creating the flc's, storyboards, palettes, sounds, testing the unit, etc... Not only that, this is the first attempt at converting an Oblivion unit, thus I don't exactly have all processes down to follow, and I still have things I need to figure out (getting some things out of Oblivion and into 3ds Max for instance).
I only have so much time, and have much else to work on, so I will update when I have something to show.
