View Full Version : Unit request: Modern Separatist.
gael Oct 11, 2002, 12:15 PM I was wondering if anybody out there could make an urban guerilla unit.
I mean a unit in plain cloths, balaclava and modern rifle. (AK47 would be nice)
I'm hoping that under 'no nationality' and no civ colours, that this unit will look like its an organisation working independently from the host goverment to weaken and eventually reclaim lost cities under a stronger enemy.
Theres a lot of talented people out there, i hope you can help.
Thanks.
GIDustin Oct 12, 2002, 10:58 PM Sounds like a cool idea.
However, I am not talented in unit-creating. If I could wish for one superhuman power, it would be the ability to make units. :)

Wait some weeks and you will have the AK-47 toting guerilla from PTW!
He looks cool!
leonel Oct 13, 2002, 11:42 AM I think PTW will have a sort of Guerilla unit in it. Wait until the 29th and it'll be okay. :D
Nder Oct 17, 2002, 10:44 AM but isn't the PtW Guerilla a jungle fighter? I think gael is looking for an urban one.
gael Feb 21, 2003, 06:23 PM BUMP!
sween32 Feb 21, 2003, 06:34 PM i'd like to see this too. ALOT.
Kinboat Feb 22, 2003, 02:35 PM I had originally planned to make a modern upgrade to my fanatic unit... It got dumped from my list for several reasons but I suppose I could add it back in somewhere.
gael Feb 22, 2003, 02:43 PM utahjazz7, I think is in the process of making this unit kinboat. Hes talking about it on his infantry/guerilla thread.
What had you got in mind.
Fëanor Feb 22, 2003, 02:54 PM that one has no RPG-7 , MAKE ONE WITH A RPG-7 PLEAAAAASE! the RPG-7 its just such a awsome weapon , and every terrorist/separatist has one! right next to his bed , next to his AK-47 and the teach yourself 'Blow Things Up in 7 minutes' manual.
Kinboat Feb 22, 2003, 08:50 PM Hadn't read that thread recently :) ... Well I guess it's back on the back burner for that project (it wouldn't have been done anytime soon anyway :) )
gael Feb 25, 2003, 01:40 PM Heres that picture you requested on the other thread utahjazz7.
He has an Armalite/M16 type gun here, but the AK47 is the gun of choice for modern organisations. A balaclava of some sort over the head or a black scarf over the mouth and a beret would be great, but I doubt you will be able to find them.
Dosn'nt matter anyway. If he has an army jacket, jeans and AK47 he'll look just as cool.
utahjazz7 Feb 25, 2003, 02:56 PM Ahh, okay. I had a different picture in my mind. I see what I can do. I'll start as soon as I can--probably after I finish the FARC Rebel.
gael Feb 25, 2003, 03:56 PM I hope this look does not seem too exclusive or regional.
This is the standard look for Ulster and Basque seperatists, but I think it could be used for any Euro/US paramilitary/revolutionary group. Nearly every country has them to some degree.
Cut n pasters could stick on one of those red and white scarf masks on his head, then you would have a middle eastern seperatist/extremist unit.
PS. If you think the one you had pictured in your head would have more mass appeal, then go with that.
utahjazz7 Feb 26, 2003, 09:38 PM Well, I've been looking for a free "jacket" figure or prop for Poser, but I can't find one. So, I'm stuck with the long-sleeve shirt. Here's the best that I can come up with so far. The red ski-mask will hopefully be civ-specific.
I'm not entirely happy with this unit, but I can't think of anything to improve it. Gael, what do you think? Do you have suggestions?

utahjazz7 Feb 27, 2003, 10:07 AM Well, I think this one might serve you better. I just don't have any civ-specific coloring, as of yet. What do you think? I found a camo texture and an army "jacket." I also got rid of the ski-mask look. I just didn't fancy it. What should I do for civ-specific coloring though?

Mephansteras Feb 27, 2003, 10:33 AM That's really hard, since there just isn't anywhere on him that would look good as a civ color.
Maybe give him a scarf? Or an armband?

Mephansteras Feb 27, 2003, 11:21 AM I think those are supposed to be blue jeans, so making them civ-specific would ruin that idea.
gael Feb 27, 2003, 11:33 AM
Thats perfect.
A lot better than the first one.
Civ colouring? I don't know, theres nothing that you can really do without killing his whole look.
The armband idea seems to be the only one that would work.
PS. Thanks utahjazz7, lovin these units man.
:)
thestonesfan Feb 27, 2003, 01:30 PM I thought he looked okay with the ski mask.
Aside from that, about the only thing you could do would be an arm band, or maybe something like a scarf tied around a leg.
Maybe he shouldn't have any at all?
hetairoi22 Feb 27, 2003, 02:00 PM Yeah, he is a seperatist after all.
Great looking unit BTW!
gael Feb 27, 2003, 04:38 PM I kinda liked the ski mask too, although i did'nt like the idea of it being civ coloured, Just black.
utahjazz7, could you give us a look at the lastest unit with a black ski mask?
utahjazz7 Feb 27, 2003, 09:15 PM Here's a look with a black ski mask and a civ-specific arm band. True, you can't see the arm band when the unit is facing west, but . . . oh well. ;) I like this look. As long as there're no objections, I'll start creating the unit tomorrow afternoon . . . that would be Friday afternoon in the eastern time zone of the United States of America.

I think that this is as close as I can get to the picture you posted, Gael. Well, I could lose the civ-specific coloring, but that's something that we'll have to deal with.
sween32 Feb 27, 2003, 09:43 PM looks like i'll have to make a leaderhead for chenya now
gael Feb 28, 2003, 08:21 AM [dance]
Excellent!
No worries, I like the arm band.
thestonesfan Feb 28, 2003, 08:43 AM Just when you thought you had all the units you needed...
Man, this is a really cool looking unit. I might make him my Geurilla and make the PTW Geurilla some kind of regular modern infantry, for middle eastern civs or something.
Mephansteras Feb 28, 2003, 10:39 AM Nice! I like how that turns out. And the lack of an armband when he's facing west...no big deal. I'll probably make him a hidden nationality unit anyway.
Yoda Power Feb 28, 2003, 10:45 AM i really like the armband:goodjob:
gael Feb 28, 2003, 01:39 PM Just popped in to have another look at him.
There should definitly be a drool smiley on this forum.
:) :goodjob:
utahjazz7 Feb 28, 2003, 01:56 PM Well, I've rendered all the animations. Right now, I'm trying to make a palette, but I'm having problems. Do not fear; I shall overcome!
Yoda Power Feb 28, 2003, 01:58 PM Is it too late to ask for a darker head?
Kal-el Feb 28, 2003, 02:05 PM Nice job on the jeans. :D

Yes, yes, it is. Sorry.

Thank you.
utahjazz7 Feb 28, 2003, 02:10 PM Well, I downloaded the palette editing program that Kinboat provided a link to in another thread, and all is well. Man, that's a great program!
gael Feb 28, 2003, 02:42 PM (Rubs sweat from head)
Good man Kinboat.
utahjazz7, when do you think you'll have this unit finished?
(I'm really looking foward to seeing the pediaIcon.)
Your knocking out some cool and diverse units lately.
Just curious, what unit are you planning to make next?

Hopefully, I'll be done this weekend. In some of the animations, I'm getting some white pixels around the legs. I want to eliminate that if I can. Also, I've been busy doing some other things the last few days. Specifically, I'm helping a friend's father build a desktop to match an old desk he found. Plus, I have a tentative job offer. So, I've been busy trying to find a better deal somewhere. Anyway, the unit is nearly completed. I just need to find the time to put the finishing touches on him.
Well, I'll probably take a break for a couple of days after I make this unit and before I start another unit. I have some things that I want to make, but I'm not sure about the order in which they will be completed. I want to make a Mexican UU--probably a guy with sombrero, sirape, and a couple of six-shooters. I also want to make an American minuteman . . . or some sort of colonial musketman. I have a couple other ideas too, but the list could go on forever. :)
gael Mar 01, 2003, 12:54 AM No rush.
Good luck on the job mate!
:)
utahjazz7 Mar 01, 2003, 11:49 AM Hey, I got lucky and found a free hour this morning. So, I put the time to good use and completed our Separatist. He's been uploaded to the completed units forum.
