Three different types of shorelines, and to be honest I hardly see anyone talking about them, which leads me to think either almost no one knows the difference, or that it really makes no difference.
I always leave things on Normal, but I'm curious what others have to say... benefits, disadvantages, etc.

Playing never really noticed or paid attention to it, although I've always selected 'pressed'

ummm...IIRC:
Pressed is a 'compact' shoreline - no random peninsulas or inlets, just one straight shoreline (not literally straight, but you get the idea). Normal has both straight shores and peninsulas and inlets, and I would assume the third (whose name I cannot remember) is the opposite of Pressed.

A Natural Shoreline will create irregular continents and tiny islands in certain regions
A Pressed Shoreline will create more compact continents and likely also a few tiny islands in
A Solid Shoreline will create very compact continents without islands, save rarely one or two larger ones.

I've used natural in order to get more possible chokepoints and more interesting terrain in general. Never actually knew the specifics of what they do either, was just guessing.

I also like natural. more likely to have tiny peninsulas for production in coastal cities, just nicer all around in my book. I use planet generator from BUG now and it's even more unpredictable than natural.
