Probably a stupid question but what is a religious game?

Probably a stupid question but what is a religious game?

A Religious game goes pretty much as follows:

1. Research Christianity, which allows you to build the Apostolic Palace (AP)
2. Build the AP
3. Spread your religion to all civilizations

When you build the AP, there are periodic elections, similar to the United Nations ones. The builder of the AP gets to choose what to vote on. When 1-3 above are complete, one of the choices will be for Religious Victory (or something like that, can't remember the wording exactly). If the other civs like you enough, they will vote for you. If you get enough votes, you win the game.

Note that 2. and 3. above don't have to happen in that order.

That's the very basics of it, there are many other posts that go into how many votes each civ gets, how many you need, what factors into them voting for you, voting for another civ, or abstaing, etc.

A diplomatic victory using the Apostolic Palace rather than the United Nations. It is a Beyond the Sword victory only.
