Hi, I already have CIV 4 for PC, (complete) but I'd like to play it on my macbook. Problem is that I have no Idea where to download it. I tried direct 2 drive, but they have only windows versions and steam also works only on windows. I don't wat to get the boxed version because it is extremely expensive (50 euro + 30 euro + 30 euro with Warlords and BTS) and because I would have to swap CDs every time and carry them with me. one CD is still ok, as with the complete edition but CiV 4 IV mac would Have 3 CDs and i would have to carry them with me all the time.

anyone an Idea where I can get a (legal) download version of CiV IV mac?

Hi. Bad news, I'm afraid, there isn't one. The only way to buy Civ4 for Mac is to buy the boxed products.

Alternatively, you could run your existing PC version if you have, or can install, Windows on your Mac.

It will certainly run in Bootcamp+Windows if you are prepared to reboot to play. If it is the DVD version then you can also run it in Parallels or VMWare, avoiding the reboot. If it is a download version it will probably run in a virtual machine, but I have no experience of that option.

There are also reports that it will run in Crossover. If that's true, then you don't need Windows at all, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

hi,
thx for your answer. It actually is running on my cbootcamp XP but CIV IV is this kinda game where you just want to make one turn that you got emailed by someone and it's annoying to have to boot windows every time to do this since I usually use mac os X.

Also, in windows i can't right-click with the mac touchpad, si i always have to do shift-clicks to issue orders and the battery life is also poor (like the half of the battery life in mac os X)

Problem with the mac boxed versions isnt just the price. it's also that i'll need 3 CDs dependent on what addon I want to play - annoying.

maybe, i'll have to get a c**** if that's the only way =(

i even would have bought it again for mac but if there's no download version, then i can't buy one =(

id also get a mac DVD with all addons sicne thats kinda reasonable and ill have to carry only one DVD (which can stay in the drive) but this is also not available.

dang!

thx anyway.

if someone has a solution for example to turn my PC version into a mac version, just lemme know :)

You didn't say why Parallels or VMWare is not an option.

i kinda like parallels, but it's far too expensive.

also, it's using too many system resources. It's just crazy to run a virtual machine with 2 GB RAM in the background on my macbook pro (4 GB). it won't benefit the battery life i think, it fills my HDD with useless windows stuff and hum... I also cant launch civ IV savegames directly from mail.app as I receive them. Ill always have to move them to the windows desktop etc.

I can guarantee Parallels is cheaper than a download of Civ4 Complete for Mac would be. But if you've decided it's too expensive then the rest is irrelevant, I guess. However ...

I run Parallels in the background on my MacPro, 4 GBytes. I only give XP 1 GByte, and the virtual disk only takes up the space it needs. Mine is 35 GBytes, but I use it for several Windows-only things other than Civ4.

If Parallels/XP is running and configured correctly, then double clicking a BtS save in the Mac environment opens it in BtS in Windows.

hm ok. sounds fine.

did you ever try civ IV on it? I mean, are there any graphics errors or something?

I have Civ4 Complete for Windows, and I run it in Parallels/XP. Graphics seem OK, but overall performance is probably not up to the level it would be in Bootcamp.

However, I don't play Civ4 in anger, I only use it to provide support for the GOTM competitions and to assist Mac players with mods and such, so you probably need to hear from someone who has played a real game in Parallels.

You know you bumped a thread a year? Since you did it already, I guess we should keep going on here, but in the future you should start a new thread. :)

It depends. If you already have your windows disc and Civ 4 for the PC, then everything would be free going through bootcamp.

If you don't mind spending more money then buying it wouldn't be a bad idea. Having to reboot just to play a game can get annoying.

I had Civ 4 and no expansions for the PC. I just went ahead and rebought that along with the rest. Got it through steam. One really nice thing about getting it that way is that I don't have to worry about what OS I use. I have PC or Mac available any time :)

No dvd needed. Just download and play.

With Steam you just have to have Steam open to play.
With game agent I'm not sure...
