This thread is for discussion about Dune Wars sound and what can be done to improve it.

In Dune Wars 1.6.4, I added some Select and Order sounds for each civ using clips from Dune 2000 and Emperor:Battle for Dune. There are a bit short on variety in places compared to the vanilla civ sounds, but there is only a small pool to choose from.

These are the phrases used for each civ at the moment:

Atreides
Select: "Orders sir?", "Ready commander.", "Yes, sir?"
Order: "Yes, sir!", "For the duke!", "Atreides out."

Corrino
Select: "No surrender", "We are prepared", "Your command?", "Ready"
Order: "Onwards!", "Of course!"

Bene Gesserit
Select: "Yes, sir!", "Awaiting orders.", "Ready."
Order: "Yes, sir!", "Over and out.", "No problem."
(I just used a generic voice for them - it would be nice to get female voices for the female BG UUs later)

Ecaz
Select: "Reporting", "Yes, sir?", "My liege"
Order: "At once", "By your command", "I hear and obey"

Fremen
Select: "Naib", "Muad'Dib", "Yes?"
Order: "It is done", "Bi-la kaifa", "For Shai-Hulud"

Harkonnen
Select: "Ready", "Your orders?", "I live for pain"
Order: "For Geidi Prime!", "For the Baron!", "At once!", "Understood."

Ix
Select: "Waiting for instructions", "Don't rush me!"
Order: "Actions prioritised"

Ordos
Select: "Awaiting your directive", "House Ordos will prevail"
Order: "Directive initiated."

Tleilaxu
Select: "Awating instruction", "What is the required task?", "At your disposal"
Order: "Order accepted"

You can overide the civilization select and order sounds for individual units, and the good news is I have lots of unused sounds from these old Westwood games that can be used. I have voices that can be used for Thopter and Carryall order and select as well as some UUs/URUs like the Fedaykin ("Their water is ours!"), Sardaukar and the new Chemical Trooper.

One disappointing thing is that the Order sounds seem to trigger very rarely. The main occasion I've heard them is when founding cities. I don't know if there is a way to trigger these for other actions.

Other sounds related things can be discussed in this thread.

One thing that Slvynn mentioned is that the city ambience when you go into the city screen is not really appropriate. Any ideas for something better?

These look great, I look forward to trying them out.

Isn't the city ambience the diplomacy music for your faction? I forget. I haven't noticed a problem.

He mean not music but noises - ambience - squawking, child talk and such. We'll give some search to it later.

I have good friend soundengeneer and musician - i trying to convince him to help. :P

Yes, I was taking about the loop that plays when you are in the city screen itself.

I have a little home studio and am pretty familiar with sound engineering and production. I'm cabable of editing and cleaning up sounds, etc. Most of the time is comes down to sourcing good quality sounds in the first place.

Fruty Loops and programms like it have very nice libraries of sounds. You can mix and adjust them and put them together. Hovever i dont posses good skill at doing this and i think i have not FL right now.

About voices its harder project, but i'll ask my buddy who is musician.
Here is the sample of his own track he wrote by himself, including voice sampling. This one is bit close to our DW mood, so i just giving it as sample, and there are his voices he sampled and adjusted, and they are quite good. I think it may be good, if i convice him to help us. He is busy man but he love Civ and Dune.
If you like it you can put it to mod, just mention his name, Fabjan. I think its bit too electronic, but its your decision. The track is awesome as it is, imo. :)
