View Full Version : Can anyone verify folder structure?

Hi everyone,

I have an easy question (maybe two). My little kids got a hold of my computer for a few minutes while I stepped away, and when I came back, I noticed a few folder names were messed up. Most were no big deal, but I saw that the directory for Civ IV had a few folder names messed up.
Through "undo", I could recapture one name, but another name was still lost (why does Apple's Finder not let me undo an infinitum??). Please look at the image attached, and let me know what the folder named "]" is supposed to be called, and let me know if all the other names are correct.
For those who cannot see the screen capture, here are the names in the folder structure Apps/Civ IV:

]
Assets
Manual
Mods
Read Me
Resource
Shaders

My other question: does any of this naming matter? I haven't run Civ IV since this happened, "worried" that it would crash because it couldn't find files it needed and, well, being a dad I don't get a lot of free time to futz around with stuff.

Thanks!
:)

The one missing is PublicMaps. On my system this is full of xxxx.Civ4WorldBuilderSave and xxxx.py files that define custom scenario maps. It contains 51 items altogether. The critical ones are Assets, Resource and Shaders. The rest are only required if you want to run the mods or scenarios, or if you need the documentation.

Whew! I love having forums! If I tried to find this answer in a manual somewhere or, God forbid, with a google search, it would have taken me ages of wasted time. Thank you so much for your wonderful help! (Yes, it has the xxx.Civ4WorldBuilderSave and xxx.py files.)

I don't have 51 items (only 37), and I don't have the Assets, Resource, or Shaders as sub-folders of the "PublicMaps" folder. However, I suspect that might be because I have just the vanilla game, and I got mine LONG ago (like when it just came out). I think they probably tweaked Civ IV somewhere along the lines in a way that was not reflected in the new versions. Regardless, I think my folder structure is all intact. I have those Assets, Resources, and Shaders, but they are under the parent directory "Civilization IV".

Thanks again!

There are no subfolders in PublicMaps. I thought you were asking which of the folders you listed were critical to Civ4 operation, and those three are the most important ones. They don't need to be moved. They are in the right place.

I recommend you get the latest patch for Civ4 to version 1.74 if you don't already have it. Links for patches are here

Ahh... OK, good. Thanks again for the help!

And yes, I have the latest patch. It was a tough patch to install (it had some weird bug in the installer at first), but eventually I sorted it all out. In fact, I'd even made some mods of my own, but nothing "stable" enough to throw back into the community. (It was really tough to handle the graphics. But I don't do any of that sort of stuff for a living, so I'm a newbie to it all.)

Thanks!

None of us mod Civ for a living ;). (And only a handful are professional programmers afaik and even less are professional 3D modellers.)
