View Full Version : Maus WW2 Super Heavy tank
Hunter Oct 17, 2002, 07:31 PM This is the german Maus tank the largest tank built during WW2 mabye the largest ever.
Compare:
M1A1 Abram MBT 56.3 tons or 57,154 kg
main gun: 120mm or 4.72in
Maus 188 tons or 191,000 kg
Main gun 128mm or 5in
Armor 200mm or 7.87in
The Maus was a Super Heavy tank and was always under powered largly do to the late development time (1943) and never was a full production tank. However given a longer war... who knows.
Its large size in the game is because of its Gigantic size in real life.

W.i.n.t.e.r Oct 17, 2002, 10:13 PM :) what kinda stats would such a monster have ??
can u post a pic of the maus standing next to the M1 ???
Nemesis Rex Oct 17, 2002, 11:28 PM Is my german off or did they really call this monster a "mouse."
Donal Graeme Oct 18, 2002, 12:12 AM I think that they meant it as a joke. I didn't even know that Germans had a sense of humor...
thestonesfan Oct 18, 2002, 06:27 AM I used this behemoth in Panzer General 2. It was pretty much invincible. But then again, so was the King Tiger.
If Germany had the production capacity of the US...holy crap.
nonnob3 Oct 18, 2002, 09:08 AM SUPERB WORK HUNTER!!!!!!!!!! :goodjob:
(hey, come and post it at our new TRT home at CDG ;) )
W.i.n.t.e.r Oct 18, 2002, 09:21 AM Ingame Preview anyone ????
CurtSibling Oct 18, 2002, 10:19 AM All in all, it is a very nice unit indeed.
the only quibbles I have are the attack and death anims.
The death could be more spectacular and the drum at the rear of the maus changes to grey on the last frame...
The tracks have minor problems as well...nothing that ruins the enjoyment...
Best thing is though...this beast is BIG!!!
Nice work, and with a more expansive death anim, this will rule...!!!
:D

Think U mistook this one with the King Tiger :)
thestonesfan Oct 18, 2002, 11:08 AM No, I know they are two different tanks. I meant that they were both pretty much invincible.
Audax Legatus Oct 18, 2002, 07:45 PM Ah, yes. I too remember my days of Panzer General II. There was one mission of mine, always a favorite, defending the last 50 miles to Berlin. No holds barred, desperate battling for mere tiles. I loved the Maus. So much fun smashing through T34s with them. Damn Soviet Katyushas, though, late game the Allies got all the good artillery.

2D strategy! those halcyon days!
I recall Talonsoft's Eastern front too...great game!
And I agree...those damn Soviets!
Pablostuka Oct 19, 2002, 03:14 AM Yeah!!!Excellent work!! Post it in CGD!! :goodjob:
thestonesfan Oct 19, 2002, 09:00 AM Yeah, the allies had mean artillery, but what about their damn airplanes? Brutal!
But it was pathetic to watch them try to stem the tide of my iron legions.
pesoloco Oct 19, 2002, 09:21 PM THAT TANK IS HUGE!!!!!!
Nice work, Hunter.

Erm...I think he was referring his computer WW2 campaign game...
joespaniel Oct 20, 2002, 09:40 AM I suggest giving it a movement rate of 1, they were very slow.
I know alot of people have been waiting for this bohemeth for a long time. ;)
Rheinmetall Oct 22, 2002, 03:13 AM I think this one would be better suited as a defensive unit. I think this monster never was much of an importance in assault role where it could be easily ambushed from sides because of it's poor manouverability. Other way round: Give it movement rate of 1 representing it's slow speed, huge attack rating, and weak defence so it can be destroyed easily if left unescorted.
jeriko one Oct 28, 2002, 12:21 AM Yeah give movement rate of 1. Despite using aircraft motor it still had a speed of 13km/h. Good unit thank you:goodjob:

Imagine if Germany had the production capacity to produce these monsters.
Unwieldy yeah, but I certainly wouldn't want to be on the opposing side of one of these.

CurtSibling Nov 04, 2002, 02:10 AM These mighty steel behemoths were cool,
but totally against the ethos of the the German assault doctrine...fast and deadly warfare.
You could build three PzKw V "Panthers" for every one of these 200 ton beasts...a waste of resources...
When Germany should have been concentrating on mass-building one or two of it's war-winning advanced designs,
they preferred to mess around with daydreams of lumbering giant tanks...
They had the tools for victory...and blew a million oppurtunities...
Such wastefulness deserves defeat!
McClane Nov 07, 2002, 01:59 PM This is a great Tank!
Very good look. But I think, the original Maus hadn't such Dimensions. It's look like an T-1000 tank, that was never build!
This tank had 2 x 280mm Gun, 1 x 128 Gun and 8 x 20 mm AA Guns. (1000t) Would be a nice Unit!
Tepez2447 Nov 07, 2002, 03:42 PM Um i think they ment more of it was possible to be equipped those ways, not that it held all at the same time. Could be wrong, probably am, but yea.
