I've seen you lurking away in the shadows, don't worry cricketers no-one's going to (too much) make fun of you :D.

Seriously though, who do you think is/was the most complete cricketer of all time. We're talking in every department here; Batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, winning record, the works.

For me it has to be Sir Garfield Sobers. How many playersu name that could bowl Slow left Arm, Left Arm Chinaman and Left Arm Fast Medium all with excellent delivery? Add to that even more impressive batting which produced both runs on the board and amazement from the crowd with his sumptuos strokeplay. He held the highest score in a test match (365 not out) for years and years before Lara broke it. And who could forget the classic six sixes, my grandad was at that game watching, the look on Nash's face as he ran up for the 6th ball is one thing he'll never forget.

But, of course, someone is going to say Bradman, some patriotic idiot will say Botham, maybe a few will say Kapil Dev or Imrahn Kahn. But for me, Sobers it is.

Yay, patriotic idiot, that is me. Botham is the man.

Well, no, he's not. I have to say when I saw the thread title, the names Sir Garfield, Bradman, Botham and Imran all flashed though my head, so to speak.

But then, in a flash of inspiration, the name Andrew Flintoff came to me.

Bah! It has to be Graeme Hick! :D

If we are looking for the best all rounder, which is what the question suggests it has to be Sobers. No contest. What other player could make a hundred for South Australia, then hop on a plane, fly to the West Indies, get off and go straight to play in a Test match. And take four catches at slip, and make runs.

The trouble with this thread is that there just isnt going to be any disagreement. Sobers was so far ahead of anyone else that no-one else comes close.

Even Freddie. :)

I'll disagree if you like.

I propose Andrew...Ian...Michael....no, I can't. It's Sir Garfield.

Oh well, I tried. :crazyeye:

Darn.

I come up with what I thought would be an intresting debate over cricket (for once :p) and everyone agrees. Oh well, you live and you learn...
