View Full Version : Planting disease
WildFire Oct 23, 2002, 01:12 PM Should Firaxis have taken out the planting disease option because of the anthrax scares or should they have left it in.
Personally, i would of liked to see it in the game. Any opinions?
Dr. Dr. Doktor Oct 24, 2002, 04:42 AM No. Especially because whether it is a city, town or metropolis is important in determining its defence value.
If it was for political reasons it was removed they could have called what is esentially just a mathematical factor something else, i.e. 'cause citizen to defect' or something.
RufRydyr Oct 24, 2002, 07:36 AM They should have left it in. Nukes are in. :nuke:
Chemical/biological warfare has been and is used on the battlefield, so it should be in the game.
Of course, there are lots of things that would be nice to see.
Suki Oct 24, 2002, 08:55 AM The game is trying to model reality to some degree. It happens in real life... and it's nothing new, what ever happened to chucking a dead horse over their walls?
:vomit:
of course we should be careful or we'll start asking why we can't build scuicide bombers and I think it's obvious enough that that would be way out of line
Clown2TheLeft Oct 24, 2002, 11:02 AM I'm listening to Anthrax right now--the good kind: Scott Ian's band--and have no problem with it. I'd like to have the "plant disease" option for spies. I could have used 'em on those damned Babylonians last time to prevent unfortunate events such as this that you might be familiar with:--
(Terrible news, sir! The people of Ur have DEPOSED our governor, and pled allegeince to the treacherous Babylonians! It is said they admire the so-called "culture" of the Babylonians. Imagine!)
I would also like to see some naval improvements. Either a battleship or AEGIS cruiser have the capacity to transport--and fire from sea--a limited-range (say 3 square) type of conventional-warhead cruise missle--like the current one, but with a slightly higher range and damage. (And appropriate shield cost). I think it's a little off that the cruises have to strike a square twice to destroy railroads and basic improvements. One strike from these should kill all improvements in a given square. Hell, a strike from a cruise missle would leave a CRATER that would take workers some time to convert back to useable terrain (similar to pollution). I'd say a maximum capacity of 6 for these missles would be realistic--the US Navy missle ships carry a considerable amount more than that, but then again, they don't take 5 years to cross the ocean. Heheh. This, combined with the standard bombardment of these warships would make the sea power game a lot more interesting--and vital.
The B-2's that we can play with are nice, but I've always found it a little odd that their range is so limited, and that they can be launched from an aircraft carrier (the real ones are all based in MO. All their sorties are flown from there--yes, even when they hit Afghanistan).
Umm.... what was the question again?
Later!

gugalpm Oct 24, 2002, 11:23 AM The point of Clown is completely valid...
They took out so people couldn't exploit it, decreasing some city to less than 6 and taking with great effectiveness...
The Last Conformist Oct 24, 2002, 12:00 PM Sure, we can't build suicide bombers, but I've sent dozens of Tanks (which I figure to represent armor divisions) on deliberate suicide missions (land them in on a mountain tile deep behind the front lines, next turn storm and raze as many cities as you can before the AI reinforcements arrive; disband all slave you get so the AI can't claim them back), and the Sabotage espionage mission is pretty suicidal for the people involved ...
lincon Oct 24, 2002, 03:08 PM i dont think they should delet it but change it to only come form a jungle

I use arty for that. They took it out for PC reasons.

Firaxis was planning to have disease planting as a weapon.
Currently you can only get disease from jungle or flood plain. After a certain tech or improvement (forget which one) flood plains are completely safe.
