a) My mom was right there and she answered it
b) It was a neighbor's phone (paper-thin walls)
c) It wasn't a phone at all.
I don't remember which, actually. But I can't answer phones because I can't understand anyone over them and I tend to yell into them.

Seek protection at the opposing wizard's crib.
This might work except they'll probably force me into prostitution and rape me daily:eek:
To wake up from your dream.
Zack I wish I could look you in the eyes and tell you with a straight face that wizards don't exist, but thats not the world we live in Zack. Wizards are VERY real not like child molesters and republicans which only exist in storybooks and 16th century woodcuts.

Quackers Feb 28, 2010, 04:42 PM Ok so I started running for two weeks fine - now my knees I think are wrecked - it happend in like one session. I was like WTF! It was random one day I could run fine the next I couldn't run it was so painful.
So my question is. What can I do to keep up the exercise which excludes running and strenous use of legs? I've gone for brisk 1 hour walks but they are frigging boring only so much metallica one can listen too and I question the atheletic intergrity of just a walk although pscyhlogically it makes me feel better because I know I'm doing something.

Do you have adequate running trainers? You can one minute walk one minute run and also obviously stop as soon as there is any pain because initially all you're doing is damage, the pain of wrecking knees is substantially different to the pain of pushing through the proverbial 'wall'. By the sounds of things you may be pushing to do to much too soon. You need to build up their strength over time which means those 1 hour walks are still doing good. Another option is obviously to cycle, this effectivly reduces the wear and tear or knees whilst still including the movement, it does not however do as much calorie burning as running (if thats what you're after). The other options are the eliptical or the rowing machine as they do similar amounts but this is moving into gym territory and I don't know if you want to use that.
Anywhoo hope that helps.

I don't have specific running shoes I wear some jack of all trades trainer. That could be a decent area to look into though. I may try the 1 minute off/on method it sounds reasonable - although I expect I'l need to slow the running down.

It's possible then that you are suffering from shin splints. Buy a good pair of running shoes and go for some light jogs. If it turns out that it was the shoes, then you can increase the intensity of your exercise.

In my town there's a used bookstore that will give credit, however they won't take certain types of books because there's too many. May want to look into that.
Atticus Mar 01, 2010, 05:18 AM Masada:
I've never sold books through internet because I'm too lazy. If the book is interesting enough, you'll probably make more money without middle hand.
Here's what I would do:
1. Take old and rare books to fancy people's bookstore. Usually situated in an old and distinguished part of the city, and they play classical music in the store. There's of course no "secondhand" in the title of the store, but rather something like "antique books"
2. Books that are valuable due their special knowledge: put a list on the noticeboard of the local university. Secondhand stores usually lack the knowledge to appreciate these, unless they are really specialized to the subject (only in bigger cities).
3. Literature (if not rare) is best appreciated in middle priced stores. Expensive places don't sell books for reading but for showing, and can refuse good popular books if they only have wrong kind of cover for example.
2&3. If there's university flea markets or something like that, try it. There's probably people who are interested about the subjects you are (have been), and who like to read literature. Price literature moderately there. Typically 2nd hand book store gives you less than 50% of their selling price, so if you sell it for something like 60-75%, it's a good deal for you and the buyer. This is also good place to get rid of books no one would pay anything for.

This may be true I may need to look into this. I have had pain running down the right hand side of my right shin - It's absent on the left shin i think i have a funny running style where I put more emphasis on my right foot. Also I run on forest tracks and the particulary course I run has many steep hills and I think the impact of running down the hill may be causing this injury.
I think I will definitly buy some good running shoes. Any good brands you recommend?

If you can pay the shipping, then there's http://booksforsoldiers.com/ Otherwise, if there's a used book store that buys, you can take them there. If there isn't, there are places online you can sell them. Libraries take donations. So do senior centers. Or other non profits in your area.

In this regard Nike/addidas generally are prominent for a reason but you can always just wander in to any sports shop and ask them there as they will generally have some ideas. If you are serious about running regularly it's definitely worth paying a little more for quality. You can always look into support for the knee etc but i'd try the new trainers first. I have a pair of new balance iirc so you can always take a look at them; http://www.newbalance.co.uk/Fitness/Cross+Trainer
say1988 Mar 01, 2010, 11:23 AM Remember not to ignore comfort and fit for quality, though.
BCLG100 Mar 01, 2010, 04:54 PM Another bonus of paying a little extra is that the cheaper trainers tend to be made out of poorer material which means that obviously they will fall apart quicker but in the meantime will soak up sweat like a demon and stink to high heaven.
Zelig Mar 01, 2010, 05:33 PM At best, expensive running shoes are useless, at worse, they increase your chances of injury:

Genocidicbunny Mar 01, 2010, 08:25 PM A good comfortable set of shoes with a good insole should be enough for daily jogging. I use a pair of sneakers that fit me well with an odor and sweat absorbent insole when I work ( I work retail, so I'm on my feet for 2-3 hour stretches, up to 9 hours per day) and when I go to the gym or whatever. I used to have some more expensive running shoes but those never did anything for me, and a simple 20$ insole has done more for my comfort than a 100$ pair of shoes.

It sounds more like shin splints the more information you give. Shin splints tend to cause pain on either the inside or outside of the shin, depending upon where most of the pressure is. I used to be a hurdler in my early teens, before my lack of height became a problem, and I used to get pains on the inside of my right shin, as it was the inside of my right foot which hit the ground before anything else. If you favour your right side when running, I would expect the pain to be on the outside of your shin as you say, especially when running downhill on an uneven surface.
As for a good brand, I'm not sure I can help you. I buy Brooks runners, usually the same size as my brother. His were custom-fit, and we have exactly the same foot size and shape. I believe Brooks is an Australian brand though. If you're serious about running, a custom-fit runner would be advisable. A good pediatrist could hook you up relatively cheaply, though it would still be more expensive than just buying a comfortable pair of joggers from a commercial store.
Zelig Mar 02, 2010, 03:57 AM FWIW, I fixed shin splints for myself by eliminating isolation calf exercises from my workout, and adding an exercise for the anterior tibialis (reverse calf raise.)
Lord Baal Mar 02, 2010, 04:03 AM FWIW, I fixed shin splints for myself by eliminating isolation calf exercises from my workout, and adding an exercise for the anterior tibialis (reverse calf raise.)
That merely stopped exercising your shins. You'd have been better off continuing your exercises - after a few days off to relieve the pain, of course - with a superior shoe, or perhaps a foot wrapping.
aimeeandbeatles Mar 02, 2010, 04:57 AM How do you take a body temperature without a thermometer? It was one of those electronic ones and it broke. It fell in the luckily, clean toilet. When I fished it out it wouldn't give temperatures anymore.

You can't take them accurately without a thermometre. The best you could do would be the old 'hand on the forehead to check if it's too hot' trick, which only works if your hand is at a normal body temperature.

No.
I ended up landing myself in the hospital, though. (This was several hours ago. I'm home now.) They gave us a cheap thermometer there.
EDIT: No, I didn't go to the hospital just for the thermometer. They gave it to me because they had to stick it ... someplace. Obviously I'm going to have to sterilize it before using it again.

So my question is. What can I do to keep up the exercise which excludes running and strenous use of legs?
Drink more milk, especially at bed time.
I think I will definitly buy some good running shoes. Any good brands you recommend?
I recommend a running shop. No brand suits everyone. You should try on a number of pairs and decide what suits you best. Generally the shop staff will make you run in them, either on a treadmill with some fancy technology to analyse your gait, or at the least by watching you as you run up and down the street outside.
I used to destroy my knees every half-marathon I ran, but I was running in normal trainers. I got running shoes and they merely ached, and now I've a nice pair of running shoes and running doesn't do my knees in at all.

Mirc Mar 02, 2010, 05:07 PM Does anybody know of a program or website that can calculate international itineraries and/or give driving directions? I should mention that Google Maps and Yahoo Maps don't seem to be able to do it in Europe, with the exception of the most developed European countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, UK), and I'm mostly interested in the rest of Europe.
Some 4 years ago, I used to have Loxane Way Home Europe, and I loved it (used to give me the exact distances between the departure and destination points, as well as between any other points in between, directions accurate to the very traffic lights one would meet on the way, time approximation based on changeable settings, and details about all the cities reachable in between), but I left my copy of it in Romania, and it was already a couple of years old when I last used it - which is why I'm not sure how up-to-date it is right now.
I would prefer a freeware program/website, although it's not a disaster if isn't. :)

That's exactly what I'm asking for, although it also doesn't seem to be working outside the EU (that's definitely a step ahead of Google/Yahoo though, since they don't even work inside the whole EU).
And (unrelated, and probably just due to some weird setting), I searched for a route from Hungary to Greece and I noticed a weird spot, which is why I decided to make a certain search... And here's the result it gave me! :D

Allow me to clarify my typo. You merely stopped exercising your calves. At least not nearly to the point at which you had been.

Expensive shoes are useless if they fit poorly or are purchased merely for appearance and style rather than comfort. If you buy a good-fitting pair of shoes that are made using quality materials your feet and legs will be better for it.

Books-on-tape are fine for walking, but music is listened to during exercise due to the rhythm - at least, that's why I listen to it. A book-on-tape may not be a good idea during strenuous exercise.
Captain2 Mar 03, 2010, 12:46 AM ...Why does English class require reading so much boring - and if not that, depressing - literature? Why can't there be more fun crap?!
Boring or depressing work depends almost entirely upon whoevers reading it, I had a good time reading some stuff given to me like the outsiders or animal farm but I had a real problem with reading Of Mice and Men.
Not that I had trouble understanding the book, just that it was incredibly short and yet I found myself getting angry at how repetitive it was
BCLG100 Mar 03, 2010, 03:08 AM ...Why does English class require reading so much boring - and if not that, depressing - literature? Why can't there be more fun crap?!
high literature is very often repetitive and therefore boring. The older works also have tonnes of references to things you wont know about/understand unless you have a wider knowledge of the area. For instance try reading anything by Homer without topping up your knowledge on Greek Gods and not using the editors notes.
Masada Mar 03, 2010, 03:27 AM high literature is very often repetitive and therefore boring.

Australian literature for high-school is almost universally bad. I had to do Fly Away Peter by David Malouf. At the time I though the book was terrible with few redeeming qualities, the best of which was its astonishing brevity. Interestingly, I asked my teacher and an ex-teacher about the quality of the work and I got something like this: "terrible book but it makes the markers hard. It also helps poor students because just about anyone can write something vaguely intelligent about it. And even if they completely miss the point at least its vague enough that the markers won't be able to come to do heavy on it." That said, I tend to think there is a perception that high-school literature is universally bad. I know of a number of people who read The Great Gatsby and loathed it with a passion, who now on reflection don't quite get why they hated it. I suspect the control of what you read is probably the big sticking point for most people... although reading ability might also account for part of it.
Lord Baal Mar 03, 2010, 03:51 AM My girlfriend loves The Great Gatsby. I've never read it myself. I was forced to read Tim Winton novels, which cause permanent stunting of my reasoning faculties. I may never recover.

Yeah, Tim Winton's a popular one for schools. I did Dirt Music for my HSC (although that was my chosen additional text), and there was some other Australian guy who had a dislike similar to your own for Winton's work:
I just remembered something we were forced to read. That eye, the sky, by Tim Winton, who's supposed to be one of Australia's best authors. If I ever meet the meet, I will punch him full-force in the face. I mean that.
Only one girl in the class even bothered to finish it, and she actually had headaches for days afterwards. I've read literally thousands of books in my time, many of them bad, but this was hands-down the worst tripe I've ever seen. It made less sense than porn flicks, and the characterisations weren't as good either.

What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people ain't afraid to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin' man
We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need
I was raised on beans and cornbread
And I like my chicken fried
Yes, I drive a pickup truck
And I'm full of American pride
I keep a Bible on my table
I got a flag out on my lawn
And I don't believe in mindin'
No one's business but my own
Now they're tryin' to take my guns away
And that would be just fine
If you take ‘em away from the criminals first
I'll gladly give ya mine
And I don't mind payin' taxes
But it makes my temper itch
When my hard earned money goes
To make some politician rich
What most people call a redneck
Ain't nothin' but a workin' man
And he makes his livin'
By the sweat of his brow
And the calluses on his hands
Now you intellectuals may not like it
But there ain't nothin' that you can do
Cause there's a whole lot more of us common-folks
Then there ever will be of you

aimeeandbeatles Mar 04, 2010, 04:53 AM Is it cuss, or curse? ;)
I think they're interchangeable. But I prefer to use them something like this:
I cussed when I found out the nearest Petty concert in Canada was in Toronto.
I cursed that person out for punching me in the face.
Where "cuss" is specifically swearing, "curse" is more just saying nasty things (which may or may not include swearing.) However this is my own usage I don't know if it's proper grammar or not.
Dachs Mar 04, 2010, 05:25 AM "Cuss" is chiefly of use as an amusingly archaizing noun, not as a verb. As in, "That old cuss darned tootin' whipped them rustlers last night!"
say1988 Mar 04, 2010, 06:10 AM I mostly hear it as a synonym to "to curse" as in "to swear" as in bad words ("he cussed me out" or "hey, quit your cussin', boy").

Back on topic about cuss vs. curse.
I always use curse. I consider "cuss" to be a hick term, and so does my mother, who's an English major. In fact, she once told me it is a hick term. I also see meaning in curse, i.e. you'd get bad luck - you'd be CURSED - for swearing too much. Cuss just sounds like a slurred version of it to me.
...Then again, she's a fairly right-leaning person who always repeats the same damned talking points and disregards any statistics that don't agree with her... so... her sanity can be questioned.

Queen Mary 2:
The ship was intended primarily to cross the Atlantic ocean, and was therefore designed differently to many cruise ships. She has a maximum speed of 29.62 knots (54.86 km/h; 34.09 mph) and a cruising speed of 26 knots (48 km/h; 30 mph), much faster than most other passenger ships, such as Oasis of the Seas, which has a cruising speed of 22.6 knots (41.9 km/h; 26.0 mph). Instead of the diesel-electric configuration found on many ships, Queen Mary 2 uses a CODAG configuration in order to achieve her maximum speed. This uses additional gas turbines to augment the power given by the diesel generators onboard, and allow the ship to reach a higher maximum speed.

Sunrise colors are typically less brilliant and less intense than sunset colors, since there are generally fewer particles and aerosols in the morning air than in the evening air. Nighttime air is usually cooler and less windy, which allows dust and soot particles to settle out of the atmosphere, reducing the amount of Mie Scattering.

Select the picture in the timeline at the bottom of the screen (click on it once with your mouse), and press the "del" key.
Kennigit Mar 06, 2010, 05:24 PM ^^ that deletes the entire frame, so I'd have to make a new frame and recreate the timings.
I have a frame timed out to say, 3.27 seconds with picture A. I want to put in picture B in a easy way (like "swap B for A").
I don't want to just delete the 3.27 frame and then make a new frame with picture B, then place the new frame in the appropriate spot (the former picture A spot).

There could be more people transmitting on radio near the channel of that station, so you are not getting a unobstructed signal any longer unless you get a superior antenna or radio.
say1988 Mar 07, 2010, 04:55 PM Or it could be that the stations equipment was getting old and you were at the edge of teh range to begin with so deterioration has decreased its ability slightly so that you cannot receive it.

My answers to above - of course on the C++ question, like all the time, and no, I don't see why that would particularly make you a goth; people can have black clothes that aren't goth fashionwise. If they all have spiked metal chains and you otherwise style your hair, wear makeup etc... like goths though then yes, people will call you a goth even if you don't want to be associated with them

Goth not necessarily. Also depends on what kind of clothes we're talking about. Tight-fitting black jeans? Emo or goth. Loose black pants? Neither.
Id say 70% of my wardrobe is black or similarly dark colors, but I am far from what you would call goth or emo. When you're drunk you sleep deeply, half-way to mere unconsciousness. So if he typically gets nightmares, it's because he's depressed or has just had a harrowing experience.

A man is 2 m tall. He treads bare-foot on a drawing pin. Nervous impulses travel from his foot to his brain via fast and slow nerve paths. In the fast paths the impulse velocity is 200 metres per second, in the slow paths it is 50 m/s.

b)only a drunk person would ever ever eat it
c)ergo all Irish are drunk all the time
d)HOWEVER: you must have bloody good takeaways if they serve bloody prawns
