View Full Version : The Sultan Bhargash Invitational I: Saturday

I have a dream for my first MP game.

I want to play "as though" Civ3 had come multiplayer to start with. In order to really compare our abilities. And perhaps bash in one or two AI civs...

This means: Turn based but online, only members of the original 16 civs can be chosen, all conditions boxes (including accelerated production) checked.

Further details: I will host, I am gunning for this Saturday afternoon start time 1:00 - 1:30 EST. Play till 5:30pm eastern time and decide whether to continue on, retire with histograph glory for the winners, schedule a time to pick the game, turn it into a PBEM, etc.

We will go standard world, eight players max (filled out with AI if there are less), random continents/weather/age, default barbarians, regent level for terms of happiness/barb bonus/etc.

I am in Virginia, United States, with a broadband connection. I am sorry to discourage non-broadbanders but I fear crashes. I am sorry to discourage anyone not in the continental US/Eastern Canada but I fear crashes. Anybody who crashes out in the first four hours is just going to be out of luck, we plunge on!

I am posting this thread to get "count me in" votes and let people stake a claim for the civs of their choice. First call on this thread, first rights to that civ. If you don't show up on game day (by which time the address will be posted) by 1:15 someone can grab your civ choice/place in the game.

And I claim INDIA as my Civ for that game. I love those elephants.

Damn, I'm at some fundraiser north of the city that evening and 5:30 is cutting it fine.

Mmmm, Sunday...

If you don't mind an unfamiliar face such as myself playing, I'm in. I have a broadband connection and am in Toronto. IIRC, there is a trunk between Virginia and Toronto so barring some sort of Firaxis coding screwup, we should be crash-free.

I claim the BABYLONIANS.

Slow pickup on this thread so far... if we move the whole thing to sunday does that work, vedder?

Mebbe - if we can get the bugs worked out before then. Sorry I missed you with that last crash there, Sultan ;).

Yes, obviously the plan hinges on being able to actually get the game started. I have no idea why they chose gamespy over just using the individual URLs.

Given my problem on Saturday night, assume I'm just in for the PBEM game we're organizing unless I say otherwise, ok?

Thanks,

I'm assuming that, given all the probs, this is no longer a go?

Yes there are a lot of problems which might make this unfeasable. My computer for one may not have the capacity to serve. Forget this thread (unless we see some huge breakthrough before friday night). See you in PBEM...
