View Full Version : Morgan corporations and CyCon specializations
Feb 16, 2010, 01:42 PM
Edit: I just realized I misnamed this thread... It should be "Morgan corporations and CyCon superbases" or "Morgan specializations and CyCon superbases"
Currently Morgan's theme is one or more superbases. I'd like to move that superbase theme to the Consciousness, and make Morgan about specialized bases.
To illustrate the difference between superbases and specialized bases, take Morgan Data Systems: instead of a world wonder which could only be built once and gives +200% science, it would cost 300 hammers and provide +50% science, but it could be built in every base. Building a corporation in a base however would prevent any other corporation from being there however. You couldn't build another corporation anymore which would provide +100% Great People points.
The reason to move the superbase theme to the Consciousness instead of giving them the specialized theme, is because the Planned civic has a synergy with a superbase. That's good for the Consciousness. We don't want Morgan to feel strongly encouraged to run Planned, as he often does now...
I started this thread in the hope people would offer some useful suggestions what could be the name and effects of the buildings which provide Morganic/CyCon bases specialized/super.

Overall, I think that idea has lot of potential for the good :goodjob:
1. How many super buildings and corporations are planned? One for each yield type, research, great people...perhaps completed by culture and espionage? I assume this means executives coming back...? And what happens with the other, general corporation-style like buildings? Will they be disabled for Morgan?
Out of my head...
Morgan Data Mining or Data Engineering (for espionage)
Morgan Superfoods (food ressources)
Morgan Creative Developemnt (Great People)
Morgan 3Dlink (culture)
2. I'm not sure if I have understand the CC part right...she can build each of those super buildings everywhere she likes (and also combine up to all of them in one or more cities) and the very high price prevents her from building them anywhere? Might work, though that still also allows her to specialize bases if she likes. Wouldn't it be better to just copy over the Morgan Wonders and remove the national-wonder-limit from Planetfall (wouldn't mean alot ofr other factions, as PF has only very few general NWs)? The Planned civic has synergy with one super base, not with more. Of course your proposal has the advantage that you can easily switch your HQ base and create a new SP.

I don't know. This thread was started in the hope someone would offer some more creative ideas than just a corporation for each yield/commerce type.

No. The buildings named Morgan corporations are completely unrelated to the BtS mechanic of corporations.

No. The Consciousness would be like the Morganites are now: they can build a couple secret projects unique to them.

To me, specialization on a base level sounds to getting the utmost effect/benefit from the use of a certain resource/commodity.
Since so many "normal" base buildings already provide this or that, it's hard to find a niche there.
So how about that Morganite specialication focusses the benefits from certain buildings, and say doubles the output? For instance, if a Morgan Pharmaceuticals building is build in a base, it can increase a certain common benefit from a group of normal buildings. Let's assume in this case the Infirmary, Rejuvenation Tanks and the Research Hospital. The common benefit I see for these three in the datalinks is an extra Doctor slot and quicker healing.
So: Morgan Pharmaceuticals upon being constructed looks which of these 3 buildings is in the base. If Infirmary and Research Hospital, it adds another doctor slot and increase healing rate by 20%. If all 3 are present, 2 doctor slots and increase healing rate by 20%. Rejuvenation Tanks alone should only give an extra doctor slot.
The more buildings from a certain type, the more benefit the specialized building returns.
Is something like this you had in mind?

In terms of names of these buildings, the Morgan project names seem pretty good already, and could probably be grafted onto the new buildings and still make sense.
In terms of Morgan's effects:
I like the idea that Geomodder suggested above, though obviously the exact effects are up for grabs.
Another possibility I can think of are special improvements that provide a large bonus, but also a large penalty (Though the penalty would not be to something like production or food that is necessary for the base to function.) For example, a building might supply a lot of gold, but reduce the science generation.
Building prerequisites seem a simple way to handle this sort of stuff, though I have a feeling you're going for more interesting mechanics.
I could also see buildings whose function is to multiply other effects, so for example, a building which doubles the health effects of other buildings in a base, or a building that doubles the specialist slots, and might provide some free specialists. (Edit: Ah, geomodder already mentioned this, I lost it in the rest of the post. :) )
As for consciousness projects:
The Morganite project effects seem worthwhile for the consciousness, though I could see a few further projects added (Such as one to improve planet rating, a straightforward production or food booster, influence and espionage effects, etc.). I'm sure other people can think of other effects.
I agree with the person who suggested that removing the national wonder limit would be useful here if possible.
I could also see the consciousness getting projects that improve one particular city, but also provides effects to other cities (to help take advantage of the consciousness's lack of maintenance advantage, unless you're planning ot change that.)

For Morgan Pharmaceuticals I was thinking I could let it provide Doctors +2 food. That way it still has synergy with all the health-related base facilities you mentioned, but I don't need to add new SDK code just for it. :D

Now you gave us an idea in what direction you were thinking. :)
