View Full Version : Term 3 Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Wartime Diplomacy
eyrei Oct 31, 2002, 06:46 PM This thread should be used to bring to the attention of the foreign affairs ministry any issues regarding our relationships with other civilizations.
Foreign Affairs Minister: Eyrei
Foreign Affairs Deputy: FortyJ
Term 2 thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33270)
Cyc Oct 31, 2002, 07:00 PM My congratulations to the both of you. It's really good to see you back in office eyrei.
My first question for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is how will we address future calls for war against our nieghbors, such as Japan? How will the F/A Ministry decide if it condones aggressive military action or stands against it?
Eklektikos Oct 31, 2002, 07:30 PM Official City placement poll (part one) (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35394). Time is short so please vote as soon as possible if you wish to have your say!
FortyJ Oct 31, 2002, 08:57 PM Eyrei
Congratulations on your election. I'm glad to be working with you this term.
As head of the Cartographic Office, I'd like to remind you that you have been granted city naming rights. Please register your city name with the Cartographic Office (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34519).
eyrei Oct 31, 2002, 10:24 PM Cyc: Personally, I wish to declare war on the Japanese within a few turns of our annexation of the Aztec lands. I will post a proposal for discussion in the next couple days to see what everyone else thinks.
FortyJ: I am happy to have you as a deputy. Please feel free to take any initiative you feel is necessary if I am absent or slow to respond to something. But, give me a chance to post my proposal that I mentioned above first. I should post it sometime tomorrow. Do keep in mind that I prefer to have all decisions made before the turn chat begins, if at all possible.
FortyJ Nov 01, 2002, 02:17 AM eyrei
I agree. Ideally, we should be posting polls and discussions for actions that would be taken at the turn chat following the one upcoming (ie. one week in advance). Of course, it won't always work that way, but we should try to avoid last minute decisions as much as possible.
In my humble opinion...
Shaitan Nov 01, 2002, 05:43 AM FortyJ is absolutely correct. We need to plan as far in advance as is reasonably possible. We won't be having any chats cut short for lack of instruction this term. ;)
Eklektikos Nov 01, 2002, 09:06 AM Official City placement poll (part two) (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35462). This one deals with the city after next, and is a quick poll
Again, time is short so please vote as soon as possible if you wish to influence the end decision!

All will be addressed shortly. As soon as the server calms down I will post a proposal for discussion.;)
eyrei Nov 01, 2002, 06:40 PM A discussion of long term foreign policy has been started here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35511) .
Eklektikos Nov 02, 2002, 04:45 PM A definitive poll regarding provincial borders (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35586) has been posted.
Eklektikos Nov 02, 2002, 08:35 PM I have posted quick polls to decide where our next city will be placed (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35602) and where the city after that will be placed (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35605) also. Please vote in these polls as soon as possible if you wish to influence the final decision!
Eklektikos Nov 05, 2002, 09:24 AM I have posted the run off poll for the province border definition issue (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35818). The choice is now down to two of FortyJ's proposals: "Capitol Province" & "Strictly Geographic 2". Please vote now to define the shape of our nation and the size of our Senate!
FortyJ Nov 05, 2002, 11:46 AM Kindly disregard. Knee-jerk reaction to the previous post. Wrong thread.
FortyJ Nov 06, 2002, 10:56 AM With Friends like these...
Generally speaking, we're not well liked by our neighbors. This is probably a result of our lack of embassies and our recent aggressive behavior towards Azteca.

Note: Who hired this advisor? Ask our soldiers on the front line about those Aztecs!
The Next Step
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/foreign-510bc-map.gif
With the Aztec war winding down, and with the prospect of another war with either Japan or America, we should start considering the idea of establishing a few embassies with some key nations. For example, if Japan is our next target, then we may wish to get friendly with Russia. Similarly, if we are to go after America, then perhaps we should befriend England and France.

As we disovered recently, Japan's territory extends all the way to Azteca. However, it is now clear that they have at least two cities near the Aztec borders. Once the process of Aztec assimilation is complete, we will find ourselves with an unfriendly (and potentially aggressive) nation right on our borders!

America
While America may not appear to be as much of an immediate threat as the Japanese, we do know a good bit about them because of their territory map. As the image below indicates, they not only have access to two sources of iron, but they also have access to horses as well.

eyrei Nov 06, 2002, 11:47 AM Excellent job FortyJ!!!:goodjob: :goodjob: If I could give you a raise I would.
Anyway, I agree that we need to choose a couple of potential allies and go ahead and establish embassies. My first choices would be Russia and England, since they border civs that we will most likely war against soon.
Eklektikos Nov 06, 2002, 12:03 PM Aside from the always suspicious sight of a grinning Shaka, that foreign advisor screen looks distinctly odd. Did you load up the save using PTW, FortyJ?
FortyJ Nov 06, 2002, 12:28 PM Yes Ek, I did.
Eklektikos Nov 06, 2002, 12:39 PM I believe that the way the AI values certain tradeable items is different in PTW, so you might want to install a seperate copy for checking peace deals etc... Just a pointer in case you didn't already know that :)
FortyJ Nov 06, 2002, 12:48 PM Yeah, but I figured it wouldn't hurt for showing maps and such. And if the embassy costs are off by a little, we'd find out soon enough.
Eklektikos Nov 06, 2002, 08:38 PM I have posted Quick Polls to decide the placement of the first (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35978), second (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35979) and third (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35981) cities during the upcoming November 8th turn chat. These polls have been set to remain open for 24 hours only, so please vote as soon as possible to ensure the cities are built in the right place at the right time!
Stuck_as_a_Mac Nov 08, 2002, 06:01 AM I would like to know FA's opinion on who goes in what order, now that we have the world.
eyrei Nov 08, 2002, 12:43 PM I will be gone from now until sometime Sunday afternoon due to a bachelor party in DC. FortyJ is in charge of the department until I get back.:)
FortyJ Nov 08, 2002, 01:02 PM Our armies are victorious! We have righteously pushed back the invasive Aztecs and claimed the lands that were rightfully ours to begin with. As part of their tribute to our victory, the Aztecs have provided us with a copy of their World Map.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/foreign-490bc-map.gif
We currently have no embassies established in any nation. This adversely affects our reputation with our rivals and prevents us from signing diplomatic treaties such as military alliances. Unfortunately, our funds are currently limited, so we must prioritize our efforts.

Bill_in_PDX Nov 08, 2002, 01:08 PM FortyJ, I love these visual summaries. Excellent work, and I thank you for the effort.
Shaitan Nov 08, 2002, 01:35 PM I would like embassies in America and Japan straight away. If either of them gets uppity while we are preparing for war we will be able to quickly bring in the other on our side to prevent fighting a 2 front war. In fact, when we do go back to war it would be a good idea to renegotiate peace with the civ we are not targetting beforehand as it will reduce the chance of that civ being recruited. We need embassies for either of those.
FortyJ Nov 08, 2002, 02:49 PM The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has posted an informational poll regarding the establishment of embassies (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36142).
All citizens are encouraged to participate.
CivGeneral Nov 08, 2002, 02:49 PM 40J, As I said before in the Embassy Poll, We should build embassies in Nations that do not pose a significant threat to Fanatika. We should also use the embassies as our tools for keeping the peace with the nations. We dont want a war on three fronts and we need to prevent that from happening.
FortyJ Nov 08, 2002, 02:55 PM Agreed. I would like to see embassies in all nations so that we can make allies as needed in the event of any unforeseen agression against us.
Shaitan Nov 08, 2002, 09:29 PM Please cast your department vote in the Judge Advocate Confirmation (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36164) Council Vote.
Shaitan Nov 09, 2002, 07:29 AM I have made my decision on appointees for the 2 planned Provincial Governor positions. donsig will be presented as Governor of the SouthWest Province and Cyc will be presented as Governor of the SouthEast Province. Many factors went into these decisions including the citizen feedback poll, my personal experience working with them on various projects and a mandate to get and keep both of them in official office.
FionnMcCumhall will be named to the Northern Province as soon as that province has another city. My personal feeling is that must happen very quickly. It is seriously underdeveloped and within the Capital's reduced corruption range.
All Department Leaders should respond to these 2 polls:
Confirmation for donsig to SouthWest Province (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36190)
Confirmation of Cyc to SouthEast Province (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36191)
FortyJ Nov 11, 2002, 11:05 AM As you are undoubtedly aware, I posted three Spotlight Discussions over the weekend, in hopes of assisting us in develpoping a cohesive foreign policy consistent with the wishes of our citizenry.
As of the time of this posting, I feel confident to report that the people believe we should be acting as follows:
Civ Emb Diplomatic Status Policy
Azteca (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36306) 27g Peace (Furious) Foe / Enemy
America (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36181) 38g Peace (Annoyed) Rival
Japan (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36180) 40g Peace (Annoyed) Foe
While I personally do not agree with our policy towards Azteca, the opinion of the people is fairly clear. Based on this information, I concluded that Japan represented our greatest threat at this time. I therefore have posted two additional spotlight discussions on Babylon (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36372) and India (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36373) to assist us in our planning.
I have also posted an informational poll concerning the establishment of embassies (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36142). Considering all available information, I would suggest that we lobby for the establishment of embassies in all nations, but especially in America, Japan, Babylon, India, England and France. Of course, this may change based on any additional responses between now and the turn chat.
eyrei Nov 11, 2002, 04:49 PM Polls have been posted regarding the establishment of embassies with England (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36413) , Japan (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36414) and America (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36415) .

eyrei Nov 13, 2002, 10:33 PM I will not really be absent, but I will not have time to perform my duties for the next few days (until Sunday). I am therefore placing the Foreign Affairs Ministry in the hands of my very capable deputy once again. He will likely be asked to make some very key decisions before, and possibly during, this turn chat, so take note that I place full power and confidence in him.
FortyJ Nov 13, 2002, 11:24 PM *Gulp* ;)
I will do my best to fill your shoes during your absence. Tomorrow, I will be posting polls that will significantly impact our foreign policy and our actions during the upcoming turn chat. I encourage all citizens, even those RPGers that do not regularly participate in the non-RPG polls, to take part. We need all citizens to get involved!
Also, please voice your opinions in our spotlight discussions. The Iriquois Nation (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36606) and Russia (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36607) have been added and with tensions rising with Japan, we need to have a good idea of how we should act towards all our western neighbors.

FortyJ Nov 20, 2002, 11:30 PM The Southern War Intensifies!
More nations are joining the call to arms against the Egyptians! Our ambassadors have reported that England has now added the dreaded Aztecs to their alliance against the Egyptians, and the Persians have brought Babylon into the fray. Egypt appears to be standing alone in this fight.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/foreign-50bc-report.jpg
The English appear to be sending troops through Fanatikan waters en route to the Egyptian town of Lisht, located south of the Indian town of Ganges. Further south, the Persians have captured the Egyptian town of Pi-Ramesses. Although we have no reliable intelligence on the disposition of troops on either side, it appears that the Persians may be making a strong push towards the Egyptian capitol of Thebes.

The Great Southern War Rages On
More and more nations are joining the call to arms against the Egyptians and it seems to be taking its toll. The Persians have taken yet another Egyptian city (Pi-Ramesses) and the noose around the Egyptian capitol continues to tighten.

World Attitude Unfazed
Despite our change to a more favorable type of government, the world still views us in a less than favorable light.

eyrei Nov 26, 2002, 11:06 PM This will be a short one however, and our foreign affairs seem to be in order. I will be returning Sunday afternoon (EST), and should be able to attend the turn chat. As usual, FortyJ is fully in charge until I get back.

Japanese towns fall to Fanatikan Forces
The Gem War has gone well thus far. We have already seized control of Izumo (now named Geisha), Sapporo (Kells) and Satsuma (Plexenburg), and our Swordsmen army is within striking distance of the Japanese capitol itself! Regretably, we have no intelligence as of yet as to the disposition of our allied forces presumably attacking the evil Japanese from the west while we continue our attack from the east and southeast.

The Great Southern War
Fanatika has joined in the crusade against Egypt as the Great Souther War continues to escalate. In recent news, Persian forces have destroyed the Egyptian cities of Hieraconpolis and Abydos. Zulu forces have captured the cities of Al-Amarna and Avaris as well. The noose is tightening and rumor has it that Cleo's days are numbered.

World Opinion now Mixed
Our recent alliances and other negotiations seem to have paid off. Many nations now have a more favorable opinion of us. We still lack embassies with a few nations and should consider establishing them as quickly as possible.
Also, Babylonian settlers encroaching on our territory has resulted in a recent shift in our attitude towards that nation. They have been downgraded from Friend to Rival!

Eklektikos Nov 30, 2002, 03:49 PM Turn chat announcement
Octavian has already stated that he will be unable to act as DP at the coming TC, and I am not willing to start one at 3am. As such, I have decided that if I am the elected president come 00:01 GMT, I will be rescheduling the TC for 00:15am GMT, 2hours and 45 minutes earlier than currently scheduled. Since it will be sunday by that time I will arguably be within my rights to do so.
