View Full Version : Unique Resource - How to get?
Moon Pine Feb 18, 2010, 11:41 PM A newbie question.
How can Ix or Corrino get its UR? Unlike Freman, their URs are not in their palaces and the buildings providing URs are unconstructable.
I checked the pedia, but found nothing about this.
Does anyone has any idea about this?
Pickly Feb 19, 2010, 07:06 AM Offworld trade gives these resources.
(If you haven't reached that point yet, offworld trade appears somewhere around halfway through the tech tree. You build a landing stage, and get a variety of choices for resources to get.)
davidlallen Feb 19, 2010, 09:41 AM In the civilopedia, there is a section on "Dune Wars Concepts" which is highly recommended. This is described in the section on offworld trade. However, we should probably add a link to this, from the pedia entries on the resources themselves.
Moon Pine Feb 19, 2010, 09:57 PM I tried it.
The Sardaukar troops`re not good enough imo :( except they start with March promotion.
Ix`s an awesome ally. Fast "Chemical Expensive", then get an Ix Weaponry from it.

I find this very surprising. For their tech level, they're the highest strength infantry in the game.

:D The ninja (18 Str + 35% City Attack) is better than Sardauka:( in Siege, but needs no UR.
While the Legionare comes with only 14 Str (Quite a target for Scorpions).
Ahriman Feb 21, 2010, 08:59 AM The Kindjal soldier (which I assume you're referring to - the placeholder art is based on a samurai) is strength 18, the Sardaukar Noukker (same tech as the legionary) is strength 20 IIRC.
The Sardakar Legionary (strength 14) is the same tech as the Shield Trooper (strength 12).
I don't think you're comparing like with like, there are 2 Sardaukar units, and both have higher base strength than their non UR counterparts.
I am considering reducing the strength of the high-end units somewhat, from tier2 (shield trooper) to tier3 (kindjal bladesman) feels like a bit too much of a jump atm.
The Kindjal bladesmen in particular is too much of a steamroller.
Also, melee units are meant to be vulnerable to Scorpions out in the open, thats what scorpions are for, whittling down an incoming stack. To protect against scorpions, use missile troopers with AP rounds.

I mean the basic Strength means nothing to me for melee warriors - what I need is only high siege power (I use Scorpion + Carryall to transport the melee warriors and artillery :p).

Thats intended; melee units are *supposed* to be assault troops, that is their role. Guardsmen are city defenders and stack defenders, scorpions are mobile field units, etc.
But remember that base strength still really matters, because it effects the value of all multipliers
Eg: strength 12 shield trooper with city raider 2 = 12*1.65 = 19.8
Strength 14 sardaukar legionary with city raider 2 = 14*1.50 = 21.0
(working off the top of my head, I don't remember exact figures)
So, Sardaukar are still superior assault specialists, and are definitely not underpowered.
I really think the tier 2 units (heavy trooper/shield trooper etc) are mostly pretty well balanced, its tier3/3.5 where there are some issues.
