View Full Version : Term 3 Presidential Office - Bang the Gavel
Shaitan Nov 01, 2002, 05:13 AM President - Shaitan (http://forums.civfanatics.com/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=6979)
Vice President - Octavian X (http://forums.civfanatics.com/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=10158)
Regular Chat Schedule
This schedule will be repeated each week until altered.
Wednesday, 04:00 AM EST (09:00 GMT)
Scheduled DP: President Shaitan
Saturday, 10:00 PM EST (03:00 GMT, Sunday)
Scheduled DP: Vice President Octavian X
Welcome to the office of the President of Fanatika. All citizens are welcome to post their opinions, ideas, complaints, etc here. Discussions will be moved to dedicated discussion threads in the Citizens' Forum.
My intent this term is to get the game running smoothly and efficiently. We will make progress each chat turn no matter what happens elsewhere. Major decisions need to be discussed, evaluated and decided on the forums before they come up in the play of the game itself. Chat turns will not be aborted or cancelled due to a lack of preparation by game Leaders.
I will hold the Department Leaders and Governors to a high standard. Absenteeism such as what we saw in the Province of Bohemia in Term 2 will not be tolerated and such officials will be circumvented and removed with extreme prejudice and extreme speed. It is the responsibility of each Leader to organize the decisions and plans that fall under their responsibilities and post all necessary instructions in the chat turn instruction thread. Instructions that are not posted do not exist for the purposes of playing out the game. As noted above, the game will not be halted due to a lack of such instructions.
There has always been a misconception that the Vice Presidency is a non-job with no real power, duties or responsibilites. That couldn't be farther from the truth and Octavian X and I will be proving that this term. The Vice President is an extension of this office, the good right arm of the President, the voice of the Executive Branch in my absence. Octavian X will be monitoring special projects, promoting decisions and looking after the overall health and welfare of the democracy game, just as I will. Please show him the respect and cooperation that is his due as the second highest officer in Fanatika's government.
Term 2 Presidential Thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33208)
Shaitan Nov 01, 2002, 05:17 AM Military - General assault guideline and troop dispositions.
Domestic - City placement for the next 2 cities.
Bohemia - Coordinated build queues, tile optimization.
Eklektikos Nov 01, 2002, 09:04 AM Official City placement poll (part two) (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35462). This one deals with the city after next, and is a quick poll
Again, time is short so please vote as soon as possible if you wish to influence the end decision!
FortyJ Nov 01, 2002, 09:45 AM Congratulations from the Cartographic Office! Your words inspire all of us.
Is there a schedule of upcoming turn chats posted anywhere? It would be a big help to all of us trying to plan for Fanatika's future.
Shaitan Nov 01, 2002, 10:14 AM The turn chat schedule is in the first post of this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=445228#post445228).
Shaitan Nov 01, 2002, 10:34 AM Informational poll on worker priorities (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35471)
Discussion on Great Leaders (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35473).
Eklektikos Nov 01, 2002, 01:45 PM Discussion on "landbridge" city sites (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35487) has been posted in the Citizen's Forum.
Octavian X Nov 01, 2002, 04:44 PM An interesting note on my office...
I am now the two term vice president of both democracy games. In total, I've served under 4 presidents. That has to be some sort of record...
Cyc Nov 01, 2002, 11:53 PM You're a darn good Vice President Octavian X! :goodjob:
Eklektikos Nov 02, 2002, 04:50 PM A definitive poll regarding provincial borders (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35586) has been posted.
Eklektikos Nov 02, 2002, 08:43 PM I have posted quick polls to decide where our next city will be placed (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35602) and where the city after that will be placed (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35605) also. Please vote in these polls as soon as possible if you wish to influence the final decision!
Cyc Nov 04, 2002, 12:07 AM Hmmm. Nothing posted in the Government sub-forum for 27 hours the day before your first Turn Chat. Kinda scary. :)
Congratulations on winning the Presidency, Shaitan. May the Spirits be with you.
disorganizer Nov 04, 2002, 02:41 AM I would propose giving the vice a very special job:
Writeup historical summaries :-)
That in fact is what im really missing in the TC threats (not this term the t in there is on purpose :-)
Congratulations to the office, Sir Shaitan.
And also congrats for Octavian, as winning against donsig is a respectful thing.
I also would like to announce to our presidential office that i and the chat office fully support your moove towards a better streamlined discussion base for the chat.
I also would like to offer my service for supporting your projects as advisor for the time i deny all official governmental services.
As soon as our dreams come true and our government is really working for the populace, i will run for positions again.
Now i have a proposal i believe you should think about:
What about a citizen board? this office will collect opinions of the populace. Not via poll or discussion, but it will listen to ideas posted in the forums and the chat and bring them to the government. This office will also handle the regular posting of "mood" polls, which will be informational and their only purpose will be to help the government determine the "moods" of the populace.
Cyc Nov 05, 2002, 03:35 AM Mr. President - I saw the name change on the save. Pretty cute.
Question - Please tell me about the 8 Temples we are now producing. There is an average completion time of 39 turns. How will this fit into our plans for Japan? Or is this just a pacifier? :)
Shaitan Nov 05, 2002, 04:08 AM @disorganizer - Interesting idea but I'm concentrating on getting the things that are already in place working smoothly. New functionality will need to wait for now.
@Cyc - The temples I put into the new city/captured city build queues are just a stopgap build. I don't recommend continuting temples for most of them. A more valuable first build for almost every one of them is a spearman defender.
Eklektikos Nov 05, 2002, 09:26 AM I have posted the run off poll for the province border definition issue (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35818). The choice is now down to two of FortyJ's proposals: "Capitol Province" & "Strictly Geographic 2". Please vote now to define the shape of our nation and the size of our Senate!
Eklektikos Nov 06, 2002, 08:33 PM I have posted Quick Polls to decide the placement of the first (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35978), second (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35979) and third (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35981) cities during the upcoming November 8th turn chat. These polls have been set to remain open for 24 hours only, so please vote as soon as possible to ensure the cities are built in the right place at the right time!
Shaitan Nov 07, 2002, 04:47 AM The office of the President is now accepting applications (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36012) for Provincial Governors.
Shaitan Nov 08, 2002, 06:43 AM Citizen Feedback for Appointment of Vacant Governor Positions. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36098)
Informational. Duration - 24 hours.
boris7 Nov 08, 2002, 10:53 AM I wouls like to suggest that in times of war emergency powers should be given to the leader and convert to a communist state and for war time only ignore the polls. If we are involved in a war then waiting for what a poll 's result is going to be would take to long and what would the people know, surely the military and defense departments would know best what to do and could advise the president. And once the poll results are back then what the citizens have voted todo may be the completely wrong thing and could lead to our undoing. Also under a democratic state war weariness is a major problem and subversives would become more frequent creating revolts. But this would only be done in war-time, after 10 turns after the war is over so it is certain that the cities and borders are protected everything would return back to normal. This is so the people who know what they are doing make the decisions which may determine our survival instead of the people who don't and may trigger our demise!
Falcon02 Nov 08, 2002, 12:12 PM boris, the constitution (last I saw unless it's been changed on me) says that in a war-time economy the military leader acts as president, however ignoring polls would create an executive dictatorship. And would likely contribute to losing citizens who feel like they're no longer effecting the demogame and thus get bored.
FortyJ Nov 08, 2002, 02:51 PM The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has posted an informational poll regarding the establishment of embassies (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36142).
All citizens are encouraged to participate.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Nov 08, 2002, 03:08 PM Mr. President:
Permision to kick boris7.
Boris: before making outlandish statements, please read the games progress.
Shaitan Nov 08, 2002, 03:47 PM @SAAM: Permission denied.
Boris is expressing an opinion, something we should be encouraging instead of discouraging. He is seeing the game as a newcomer and has identified what he percieves as a problem and suggested a fix for it. Instead of jumping on his back we should be trying to find out the roots of the problem that he has seen with his fresh eyes.
boris7 Nov 09, 2002, 08:56 AM THe problem is the quick poll isn't quick enough, I belive the quick poll is open for 48 hours, thats a long time in a war time situation, we should shorten it to at least 24 hours
Shaitan Nov 09, 2002, 09:01 AM A standard poll is 48 hours minimum. Quick polls do not have a time requirement.
Shaitan Nov 13, 2002, 08:32 AM This was a building chat with nothing exceptionally exciting. Some things to note:
Two more cities have been founded and a third settler/spear pair is almost in place for the next one. This next city will bring spice into the network.
We continue to be harrased by demands for gold and maps and do not have a protocol to follow when this happens. This cost us over 160g this chat. FA, please note
We have finished Fanatika's first 2 libraries.
We still have many swords doing garrison duty because we lack the spears to relieve them. Governors, Domestic, Military, please note
Our productive north is woefully undeveloped but we have a settler/spear pair outside of Kuhkaff that can quickly create a city in the corruption reduced range of the capital. Placed in the north province this would create a new Governor position as well as bring online another high production city. Domestic, please note
Shaitan Nov 13, 2002, 07:47 PM We will receive Monarchy from the Great Library on the next turn. I have started a discussion on when we will switch governments. LINK (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36599)
Octavian X Nov 13, 2002, 10:08 PM In the subject of today's chat, I would like to voice a complaint. A spot council spot vote was used to reverse a leader's instructions. No council members where there, and as a result, there was a 0-0 tie. Shaitan broke the tie.
As a former judiciary member, I know that this is legal. However, I feel it very unethical. Very little input was involved in the decision. It was basically a one-person overrule.
I do not care how small this decision was. I do, however, request that this never happen again, and that any action be postponed until more input is given.
Shaitan Nov 14, 2002, 04:30 AM Your complaint is noted Octavian. I cannot comment at the moment as there is a PI pending.
Cyc Nov 15, 2002, 05:49 PM A quick poll on the Settler redirect has been set up in the poll sub-forum LINK! (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=36780) . Please vote!
Shaitan Nov 17, 2002, 07:41 AM The turn chat schedule will now be kept in the first post of this thread.
Eklektikos Nov 19, 2002, 06:30 AM I have posted polls concerning the emergency building of a city to counter Denver (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37039) and the next city to be built in the NW area (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37014). Please vote ASAP if you wish to make your voice heard!
Bill_in_PDX Nov 20, 2002, 07:59 PM Due to the illegal use of espionage by a citizen of Fanatika to spy on a Japanese city outside of the official game turn, the Chief Justice office has imposed these immediate steps to address the situation:
Chief Justice Actions
1) The use of the save file generated by Stuck as a Mac is strictly forbidden.
2) That file shall NOT be loaded to this site, nor shall the information gained from that espionage be discussed as part of plans for our nation.
Please see the Judicary thread for details.
Bill
Chief Justice
Shaitan Nov 21, 2002, 10:15 AM The poll to switch to Monarchy in the upcoming chat is overwhelmingly in favor. LINK (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37117). All Leaders and citizens should make plans with the knowledge that we will be entering anarchy en route to Monarchy during the next chat.
Cyc Nov 21, 2002, 06:16 PM As you may have seen, i have changed the build queues for Valhalla and Kuhkaff. The changes were mainly brought about due to the fact we will be declaring war and descending in Anarchy in preparation for our new Government of Monarchy. These changes will help the North Province and Fanatika facilitate the change in Government and foreign policy, but will need the first item for each of the two cities to be completed. Therefore, I request that we delay the change in government until the Pikeman in Kuhkaff is completed. This should occur on turn #4 of the t/c.
As I've noted that the t/c will be on Saturday (evening), I guess this request is directed at the Vice-President. Again, optimum time for descending into Anarchy would be after the completion of the Pikeman in Kuhkaff. Thank you.
boris7 Nov 22, 2002, 10:26 AM May I request to now our domestic and foreign policies. I think we should adopt a policy of armed neutrality therefore we would not get dragged into wars as much and if we were attacked we'd be able to defend ourselves.
Shaitan Nov 22, 2002, 10:31 AM Welcome back, boris7.
You can find these in the appropriate department threads. Domestic is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35396) and Foreign Affairs is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35391).
Shaitan Nov 24, 2002, 01:14 AM Due to some holiday craziness, the morning chat this week will be on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Same bat time, same bat channel.
Octavian X Nov 24, 2002, 09:39 AM I was actually planning to attend the Wednesday morning, since I would still be awake when it started, and we had school off...
That my life...
Shaitan Nov 24, 2002, 11:05 AM Sorry, Octavian. I'll be working at the normal chat time on Wednesday so had to bump it up a day.
Octavian X Nov 24, 2002, 03:04 PM Now, the thing that's suprises me is the fact that your working that early...
Shaitan Nov 24, 2002, 05:17 PM Me too, actually. Let's hope the brass remembers around review time. ;)
Eklektikos Nov 29, 2002, 11:40 AM I have posted a quick poll regarding rushing settlers to counter AI insurgency in the NW (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37883). Please vote ASAP if you wish to have your say on this issue! :goodjob:
Eklektikos Nov 30, 2002, 04:01 PM Turn chat announcement
Octavian has already stated that he will be unable to act as DP at the coming TC, and I am not willing to start one at 3am. As such, I have decided that if I am the elected president come 00:01 GMT, I will be rescheduling the TC for 00:15am GMT, 2hours and 45 minutes earlier than currently scheduled. Since it will be sunday by that time I will arguably be within my rights to do so.
