KaNick

I suggest you limit yourself to 4 humans, makes for a much faster game and less drop-outs. Four allows for those great all-night sessions. Just a suggestion.

It may be some time until Plexus takes his turn. He's 14. I saw his birthdate on his profile. That probably means he'll be at school on Monday morning.

UKSubs said:

Yeah, but you'll be doing this everyday until someone wins. That could be 10 months from now. You could brag about this to your friends, saying something like:

"I'm a really patient guy. I'm playing about one turn per day of Civ 3 with 5 opponents. With hundreds of turns in the game, I'll be playing this one game for months!"

Sultan Bhargash
Nov 03, 2002, 05:34 PM
I have nothing against 14 year olds, but jeez!

When I was fourteen I used to sneak out of the house in the middle of the night and drink Jack Daniels and literally roll in the street.

Why are so many young people today doing homework and going to bed on time and playing Civ? That's what your thirties are for...

KaNick
Nov 03, 2002, 05:35 PM
I have to go to school tomorow, although I don't study or anything so i have a lot of free time. hopefully Plexus will get his turn done sone.

Seems like everyone but the Sultan is a student here. BTW, are we zipping the save file or just sending it as an attachment? Something to think about before my first turn.

Jon Shafer
Nov 03, 2002, 07:29 PM
I don't see a need to zip them unless they get too large much later on.

KaNick
Nov 03, 2002, 08:15 PM
No need to save. At least not yet. The save games are only 90kb right now.

Sultan Bhargash

Well plexus it seems the game has stalled at you. If you don't have time to commit then you should not sign up for PBEMs. If you do not get in at the very least one turn tomorow i will have to kick you out of the game. Remember at least one a game.

If anyone would like to get into afast pace game check out my new PBEM. Only room for 3 players. Once everyone signs up we can set up plating schedules for the next day. Then the next day we'll set up schedules for the next day. Rinse and repeat.

EDIT: We are not even done with the F@#$%%##$ first round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sultan Bhargash
Nov 03, 2002, 11:45 PM

Why? Knowing when your opponents are likely to take their turns seems a good practice to me. If you won't be available when your turn may come, you can notify the other players in a timely manner (as I have been doing). Surely you appreciate my warnings about my unavailability? :(

Not a thing going on in my little corner of the world, tho I will be the master of incense. The game is with Nick 347pm EST Friday.

KaNick

I'm not going to try and make you stop the "to Person" messages. I just thought is was a good idea as people *cough cracker *cough have been complaining about the PBEMs getting too much spam. And of course I agree with you that we should tell each other when we are unavailable to play. If you don't people assume that you don't care anymore and will get angry.

I won't be here for the rest of the night. Oh BTW to trip;)

Game to Nick! Two rounds in a day!
1144pmEST Friday.

India is in a dry part of the world in this game. We've spotted a source of dyes.

Offtopic:
Yeah Nick, the Holy Strength was part of my first successful deck, a red and white deck that combined Dwarven Warriors with Farrell's Zealots and Serra Bureacrats and Icatian Javeleneers, and used firebreathing and holy strength as pump ups - it was a "police station" theme (The Farell's were hero, dwarf=sidekick, javelnerr=rookie, bureacrat=cheif) and had a series of battles against my opponent's Moor Fiend/Orcish Farmer deck. Those were the days.

Sorry to go on so...

No, it's not a bad habit. ;) I believe that if a registered member has something on-topic to say that does not violate the Forum Rules (no offense, Sultan), then he should say it. No exceptions! Even if it consists mostly of the words, "to [person]".

BTW, who has the turn? Let's go through the rounds of saying "I don't have it" so we can determine it through indirect logic. Aye, reading a "to [person]" message would be so much simpler.

It took that long for you to get it??

To tell the honest truth, after waiting over 36 hours for my turn, I turned my attention to pet projects instead of Civ 3: PTW. I did not expect it would come the hour after I asked, "Who has the turn?" Sorry, everyone.

I'm working on solving an old geometry problem, and on building a new website for a company. (The former may make me famous among mathematicians; the latter may bring me some extra income.)

We hit a snag, UKSubs, I got your email about the turn but you forgot to attach the turn to it... can you send it on?

Round 13 is about to begin with Nick.

@that Civ who offered Bronze Working- you know who you are - I am only two turns from developing it so I really can't offer anything back (only would have been some gold anyway), if you want to make a gift of it press "accept" and I will owe you a tech down the line...

Bad news, everyone:

Just to let everyone know, Sultan Bargash was banned for 10 days (for flaming in OT). So, don't be surprised when he hasn't posted in a while...

I have the game and should send it in a few. By the way, Sultan told me that his ban was shortened to 5 days.

As I said on post #114 of this thread, I will be unable to play for some time from Monday to Saturday. If Plexus doesn't make his move in thirty minutes, expect that I won't take my turn for the whole week. I have to be rested for the early-morning car-pool to the vacation place.

Great game, guys. Civ 3: PTW rocks! :)

Must be on vacation. I'll try emailing him again.

This is the problem with PBEM, you start a game as a young bright eyed college student and you are committed to finishing as a washed up retiree... :(

Just a reminder, make sure you have the 1.14f patch installed, or else your game won't like the save file. ;)

Okay, the game is to Nick again, 704 EST on December 10. This is the same turn I celebrated sending in that last post. I hope that if we start posting HERE each time we pass the turn along (that includes you, UKSubs) that the notification here will jar the player who "doesn't" receive a turn to post or email the person who says they sent it with a message to "please send it again".

Is that really so much to ask?

Count me out of this PBEM. I've tired of waiting one month for my turn. My idea of a good time does not include turn-based games that are played at a rate exceeding one turn per month. I don't care if you think me a loser for quitting so early in the game. I can't take more waiting! :(

(Maybe this post will spur GrandMasta Nick to use his administrative permissions and expel the player who's taking so much time. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this laggard is working on hacking our passwords from the savefile. Even if Nick does exactly that tomorrow, I don't want any part of a game where cheating has obviously happened.)
