View Full Version : PBEM New Concept: Two Headed Giants
Sultan Bhargash Nov 02, 2002, 11:15 PM I thought up a cool idea for a more fun variant of PBEM, "Two Headed Giants";
Four players play, each player picks a culture area and takes two civs from that area, only one of which can be expansionist.
The players two civs turns are back to back, so that each person gets two turns before having to email their game along. Double the fun, and of course your civs would start nearer each other and be able to share techs, cash, etc. and a common aim of getting your player to win somehow. It might be most fun with elimination...
So anybody interested in this?
Plexus Nov 02, 2002, 11:18 PM Great idea SB! I'd be interested. :)
joespaniel Nov 02, 2002, 11:19 PM I would play, but I'm already doing two PBEMs.
Good idea, though. ;)
cgannon64 Nov 02, 2002, 11:24 PM I'm in! I call Carthaginians and Ottomans.
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 02, 2002, 11:26 PM Okay well let me figure this out: the culture areas are:
Mid East, Mediteranean, European, Asian, New World (?)
So it is a matter of picking the areas. I am happy to defer to the next three people who claim areas and choose last.
So, Plexus and the next three people interested, pick your culture area and two civs, please only one of them expansionist. When I have three players I will add myself and make up the game in the order me, Plexus, next, next. You have to pm me your email, also. I would prefer we don't get hyper with this one (ie trying to plan long sessions instead of just passing the game on whenever you get the chance). That's why we are playing two civs, anyway.....
Sultan Bhargash Nov 02, 2002, 11:27 PM Okay cgannon! Plexus picks and we get one more player...
Plexus Nov 02, 2002, 11:27 PM I call Japan and Mongolia (they have to be from the same culture, Cgannon).:)
cgannon64 Nov 02, 2002, 11:32 PM Wait: I just realized, Carthaginians and Ottomans aren't from the same culture group...so what is another Mediterrian civ? I definetly want Carthaginians, and then another expansionist Mediterrian (note: thre is a difference between Med. and European) civ.
CG
Plexus Nov 02, 2002, 11:34 PM Well, the Med civs are
Rome
Greece
Egypt
Carthage
(personally, I'd go Carthage and Egypt) :)
there are no expansionist Meds
KaNick Nov 02, 2002, 11:43 PM i'm in just give me a sec to pick my civs.
KaNick Nov 02, 2002, 11:47 PM I'll take mid east. How about the Arabs and Persians.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 02, 2002, 11:50 PM Okay, I need emails from Plexus and Grandmasta, I have your email I think- those are_underscores?_in your name?
Gannon went to bed without picking his civs for this. Might stick him with Carthage and Egypt.
Plexus Nov 02, 2002, 11:52 PM mine is Enemysoldier88@yahoo.com
KaNick Nov 02, 2002, 11:53 PM Yes they are understores.
KaNick Nov 02, 2002, 11:54 PM How about getting through 1 round tonite.
Plexus Nov 02, 2002, 11:56 PM yea, i'm game
Sultan Bhargash Nov 02, 2002, 11:58 PM Okay here we go. I will set it up so that Gannon goes last. The order will be me-plexus-grandmasta-gannon, so he can start us again in the morning.
I will email you soon plexus and post here when I have picked my civs and done my turns.
Plexus Nov 03, 2002, 12:00 AM ok
KaNick Nov 03, 2002, 12:09 AM CGannon's email is conorg@ny.rr.com, right?
KaNick Nov 03, 2002, 12:15 AM Plexus, you already have my email, right?
Plexus Nov 03, 2002, 12:17 AM no, what is it?
Sultan Bhargash Nov 03, 2002, 12:24 AM I emailed everybody in this with everybody's email. It is going to be me as Celts and Scandis, then Plexus as Japan and Mongols, then Grandmasta as Arabs and Persians, then Sleepyhead Gannon as Carthage and Egypt- hopefully he will enjoy the power of that combo in the absence of expansionism.
I used everyone's civ name in the game, and for your second civ added a "Kahn" or "Persian" or "Pharoah" (or in my case "Viking").
This should be fun. Again, let's just take it as it comes though, I can't handle too much PBEM pressure in the next few days.
KaNick Nov 03, 2002, 12:25 AM I am asuming that this is elimination and accelerated production?
Sultan Bhargash Nov 03, 2002, 12:26 AM Accelerated production, yes.
Elimination,,,, um, I forgot. Sorry :(
Please don't make me do all that over!
Plexus Nov 03, 2002, 12:31 AM I'm done with turn one, sent to GrandMasta Nick.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 03, 2002, 12:36 AM And I am going to bed myself now. A long day, I had to install Netscape just to be able to do the attaching of these PBEM games (seems IE wasn't up to the task, kept crashing my computer! )
Goodnight guys, thanks for signing up.
KaNick Nov 03, 2002, 12:53 AM I prefer Elimination off actually as i neglected to get a militaristic civ(cheap walls). Sent to Cgannon. Well i think if you tried hard enough you could get my two civs a little further apart. Oh well, I'm not asking for a restart. The good part is that I got a goodie hut for gold and two excelent starting postitions(In terms of growth and shield).
cgannon64 Nov 03, 2002, 09:09 AM I was going to pick Rome, but Egypt is a good choice, because their War Chariot is basically a scout. So I have to problem with that. Now, I'm not totally sure how this works; I just play two civs, and then send it to Plexus? But I thought Sultan was first? I don't have your email Sultan...and there was no save included in the email I got.
Oh, and my email is conorg@nyc.rr.com. The C is important. I still can't play this game, b/c I have no save (you probably sent it to conorg@ny.rr.com, which is not my email).
Waiting...;)
CG
Plexus Nov 03, 2002, 12:00 PM You send it to sultan then sultan sends it to me.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 03, 2002, 12:15 PM I don't know whether he used the right email, Cgannon, but I did use the right email when I wrote you and those messages were delayed, probably your inbox has too much piled up in it? If you are playing PBEMs and getting attached games you have to clear those out.
Grandmasta, try mailing him again at the adress provided in this thread. Gannon, you play your turn as Carthage, then check off "continue playing" instead of exit and save, then play your turn as Egypt. Then you mail the game to me. I have given you my email when we tried to set up Pioneer, and my email was in the general email about this game, but I will PM it to you YET AGAIN....:p
KaNick Nov 03, 2002, 12:51 PM Sorry, missed the c.:P
Sultan Bhargash Nov 03, 2002, 01:07 PM D'oh!
cgannon64 Nov 03, 2002, 04:08 PM Sultan, I think I sent it to you. I'm going to PM you, asking if I sent it to the right adress, I might not have.
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 03, 2002, 04:43 PM I got the game, I just had to go for a freezing cold lung ripping almost puking jog in the woods. Now back, I played my turns and sent it on to Plexus.
My civs are on the north and south coast of a landmass, pretty far from each other. A pity if I have to buy contact with my own civ from one of you clowns!
Because I have two civs, I actually took a chance and moved my Viking settler one space to get him on the coast before building Trondheim this turn.
Hmm, Trondheim. Even saying it makes me crave ale...
KaNick Nov 04, 2002, 04:29 PM I will return at 7:45.
KaNick Nov 04, 2002, 04:32 PM Plexus, you forgot the save.
Plexus Nov 04, 2002, 04:36 PM Sorry, resent.
cgannon64 Nov 04, 2002, 05:51 PM Game sent to Sultan. I just figured out that my two civs are quite far away from each other, which is annoying. I moved my settler on the first turn for Egypt, and it payed off: a cow, on a river, on the coast, some grassland. Pretty good start.
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 04, 2002, 06:14 PM Game back to Plexus. It seems all of us are kind of far from our own civs. What a hassle! I too moved my second settler and have just started the science progress for them, remembering that they will be trading all their techs with the Celts when they hook up...
cgannon64 Nov 04, 2002, 09:16 PM Ugh, Plexus is holding us up. He seems to be the only PBEMer so far who doesn't come on around 10pm.
Sultan: Love that new title!!!
CG
Plexus Nov 04, 2002, 09:19 PM I'm here, playing game now...
Plexus Nov 04, 2002, 09:25 PM Game sent to GrandMaster Nick.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 04, 2002, 09:31 PM Plexus you about to go emporer!
I am so psyched that everyone in all the games I am in are online!
Plexus Nov 04, 2002, 09:32 PM :D My one 1k post!
KaNick Nov 04, 2002, 09:45 PM cgannon i sent the game to you a while ago
cgannon64 Nov 04, 2002, 09:50 PM Got it, game sent to Sultan. I have to got to bed now, guys (parental orders), sorry. We have to think someone to sub for me, b/c Sultan obviously can't. Goodnight.
Oh, and I included Pioneer instructions, Sultan.
CG
Plexus Nov 04, 2002, 10:08 PM Game sent to Nick. See ya tomorrow, Cgannon.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 04, 2002, 10:13 PM Yeah this is moving along okay, I sent it awhile back and I guess the buck will stop with Gannon. I am sure I am two different continents. So much for the concept of "two headed giants"- more like two tiny electrons...
Plexus Nov 04, 2002, 10:16 PM Yea, I think I am too... :(
KaNick Nov 05, 2002, 03:08 PM I wouldn't mind if we were on different conntinents. It could add a little spice to the game. One person could be dominate on one continent but dead on the other. Just as long as the 2 continents are equal in size this could become very interesting.
cgannon64 Nov 05, 2002, 08:57 PM Who is up? This game stalled (AGAIN!).
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 05, 2002, 09:15 PM This game is stalled, I have no idea who is next, I passed it on to Plexus this afternoon...
KaNick Nov 05, 2002, 09:21 PM i thought that i sent it to cgannon last night. ill try again.
EDIT: Or did you already get it. What was the last round you played?
Plexus Nov 05, 2002, 09:55 PM SB: I never got it this afternoon...
Sultan Bhargash Nov 05, 2002, 09:59 PM Oh no! This is very bad news. Hold on I will see what I can do...... yikes....
Sultan Bhargash Nov 05, 2002, 10:03 PM I did send it on, to the email address you had given me, maybe it hasn't come thru yet or it was sent to your "junk mail" (I don't know how yahoo works). The problem I have is that I regularly clear out the cache of saves in my civ folder and this one has already gone out the garbage...
Either gannon can send me his last save and I will take my turns over or we are potentially doomed.
Very sorry to all. I will from now on keep the last round I get for any particular game...
cgannon64 Nov 06, 2002, 02:47 PM Originally posted by Sultan Bhargash

I'm sending it again now, SB. Luckily for us, I keep all my PBEM saves until my turn comes up again, so I still have TwoHeaded3. (What's with the new avatar, Sultan? Although I like the title...)
CG
cgannon64 Nov 06, 2002, 04:27 PM Game to Sultan. Apparently Carthage is on an ithmus, and Egypt is in a desert. :(
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 06, 2002, 04:36 PM Okay I am confused, Gannon, you sent me round 3 then you sent me round 4?
I played the round 3 (actually 4th round) and sent on to Plexus (titled round 3 but you can rename it).
From now on, as the last player in the chain, it is up to you Gannon to rename the file you send on as the next round number.
I will keep this "round 4" you sent and see what I am supposed to do with it.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 06, 2002, 04:37 PM Oh and the picture is Sir Jethro's depiction of me posted in the "question from a newbie" farting bob thread in general. The old, real sultan will be back soon!

Alright, sorry, I thought that was your responsiblity. :p Anyway, I just play the games I get and send them to you, my friend. So blame it all on Nick! ;)
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 06, 2002, 05:15 PM Okay so I assume the game is now with Plexus and I will ignore the second send of your two sends to me and we will proceed with round 4 the next to reach you and you call it round 5.
By the way I have consistently enjoyed your avatars but this is best one ever.

Thanks! I considered to switching to this, but I probably won't. I thought about switching just because this picture is...so...just look.
CG
EDIT: I enjoy your avatar more now, Sultan, now that I read the thread it originated in...:D
Plexus Nov 06, 2002, 05:43 PM The game is off to nick.
KaNick Nov 06, 2002, 06:40 PM Deleted
cgannon64 Nov 06, 2002, 06:51 PM Game to Sultan. I had deja vu playing those turns...;)
CG
KaNick Nov 06, 2002, 06:56 PM Me too. Although this time I didn't make that little 'mistake'
Sultan Bhargash Nov 06, 2002, 08:24 PM Game is on to Plexus. I think we are getting back on track time wise.
I guess that Plexus actually did get the turn he said he didn't get? And then Gannon sent me the turn I didn't need and then the one I was supposed to play? And now the thing has gone around a second time but those of us with scouts could now move them further to see other directions, no sweat?
At least we back on track...
Plexus Nov 07, 2002, 04:47 PM Off to Nick...
KaNick Nov 07, 2002, 05:21 PM Plexus you never played your second civ.:( Now i have to wait again.
Plexus Nov 07, 2002, 05:22 PM Sorry, I think I sent you my game. I resent it anyway...
KaNick Nov 07, 2002, 05:26 PM When I load it, it asks me to enter the password for japan. You are japan right?
Plexus Nov 07, 2002, 05:27 PM yea, when i load it, it askes for Persia's password. Let me resend again.
KaNick Nov 07, 2002, 05:37 PM It worked sending to Cgannon now:)
Sultan Bhargash Nov 07, 2002, 06:32 PM Grandmasta- you seem to have one extra offense and two extra defense points? Love the Avatar.
The game went thru Gannon to me and is back over to Plexus. Glad I am playing two civs in this one, it is dripping by sloooooowwww.....
Plexus Nov 07, 2002, 08:25 PM Sent to Nick an hour ago... :)
Sultan Bhargash Nov 07, 2002, 09:41 PM Game to Plexus 1038 eastern time Wednesday...
KaNick Nov 08, 2002, 12:07 AM Grandmasta- you seem to have one extra offense and two extra defense points? Love the Avatar.
 I can't beleive you remebered that card!
EDIT: I do have to thank you Sultan. You gave me the idea for this avator. Game to cgannon Nov 8.
Plexus Nov 08, 2002, 12:19 AM Game to Grandmaster.
cgannon64 Nov 08, 2002, 06:11 PM I don't think we're supposed to do the "Game to blah" posts anymore! They'll get mad!
CG
Plexus Nov 08, 2002, 07:13 PM Hehe, I know...
Sultan Bhargash Nov 08, 2002, 09:30 PM Game to Plexus 948ET Friday.
Still don't see anybody, I may actually be isolated on islands!
Plexus Nov 08, 2002, 09:38 PM That wouldn't be very good, now would it? Game sent to Nick.
KaNick Nov 10, 2002, 04:10 PM Ha Ha, popped a settler from a hut last turn. Game sent to cgannon.
Plexus Nov 10, 2002, 04:22 PM you suck... ;)
Sultan Bhargash Nov 10, 2002, 05:17 PM Game to plexus. I am delighted to announce that just like in real history, my Vikings have made contact with the Arabs (in real life the Vikings were inches away from converting to Islam when they found out about the 'no drinking' clause!!!). I am dissapointed to note that I have nothing to trade the Arabs besides gold, so bring it on...
KaNick Nov 10, 2002, 06:43 PM Um plexus the save asks me to type in the password for japan. Play your turns and save it then send it to me again. Some times the game doesn't save when you tell it to. Sultan, i'll be waiting:p. I won't be back for at least an hour, sorry.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 11, 2002, 05:51 PM We have recently seen gannon's Egypt - if you move your warrior one space north you will see our Viking scout and should make contact for super deals. Offer what you got and we offer back.
Nick, the deal with the Celts is in the pipeline, hope it works.
Nice to not be isolated.

Good. I realized that my two civs aren't as far apart as I originally thought, and I think I am starting to see the same land twice...:) Game to you Sultan.
CG
KaNick Nov 11, 2002, 08:22 PM Sorry your offer is not acceptable to the Arab people. Perhaps if you offerd a tech we could talk.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 11, 2002, 09:00 PM I would love to offer a tech, bowlbuster, but I dont have any. Oh well. You will feel our wrath down the line. Us Celts can homemade bomb with the best of them...
In other news, guess what Gannon uses to defend his capital? That's right- a worker! If only I was armed with anything more agressive than a scout...

I was using an extremely intelligent manuver, which managed to kill three assualting barbs with one warrior. It was strategically beautiful. ;) :D I had to get the worker out of the way to let the warrior make his attack. Where did your scout come from, anyway? I saw none.
CG
Sultan Bhargash Nov 11, 2002, 09:40 PM He was, as I said a mere move north of your warrior's original position 2 turns ago. Unless that is a different warrior...
Sultan Bhargash Nov 14, 2002, 11:35 AM GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT= From next wednesday till the saturday after thanksgiving I have to be out of town.
This game has kind of stallllled anyway so you might not notice ten days off. But if you other three players would rather I find a sub or know someone who would sub, that is fine with me... Let me know...
KaNick Nov 14, 2002, 04:19 PM I'll sub for you Sultan:evil:

No I would need a sub from outside the game, I think...
Plexus Nov 14, 2002, 04:48 PM *plex changes voice*
"Good day to you, Sir. I am interested in playing your game. I have never played a PBEM before and this is my first post at CFC."
:)
KaNick Nov 17, 2002, 08:29 PM Who has the game? I have round 12 so cgannon, if you only have 11 tell me and I will send it to you.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 17, 2002, 10:04 PM I don't have it. I ALWAYS REPORT MY TURN on the thread after it is finished.
cgannon64 Nov 18, 2002, 02:21 PM I don't have it, and its not in my recycle bin either. Maybe its you, Plexus?
CG
KaNick Nov 18, 2002, 03:54 PM What turn are we on, 12 or 13?
Plexus Nov 18, 2002, 04:36 PM Nope, i don't have it.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 18, 2002, 04:39 PM We are on Round 12 Nick, at least that was the round I sent on to plexus...
cgannon64 Nov 18, 2002, 04:43 PM Does anyone still have the save? We could just redo from wherever...:hmm: We have bad luck in this game! ;)
CG
KaNick Nov 19, 2002, 07:35 PM I'll just send the game to cgannon from round 12 since he doesn't have any saves anymore.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 19, 2002, 08:01 PM That would pick up the link, as it seems this whole thing is Cgannon's fault (I already played twelve).
Nice job Cgannon! :p
Sultan Bhargash Nov 19, 2002, 08:02 PM And BTW I will have my laptop with me and have installed Civ3 so we should be able to keep the game moving while I am in New Orleans (though my turns will no longer be the rapid fire things of beauty that they have been in all my PBEM games so far).
Sultan Bhargash Nov 19, 2002, 09:53 PM Game to Plexus, uh, in a minute...
Plexus Nov 19, 2002, 10:41 PM Game to Nick.
Sultan Bhargash Nov 21, 2002, 07:03 PM The game to Plexus, I will be able to play some turns on my vacation thanks to my new laptop...
KaNick Nov 21, 2002, 08:14 PM Game to cgannon. Hmmmm to attack or not to attack, that is the question, and I think I know the answer;)
Plexus Nov 21, 2002, 10:35 PM @Nick- get out of my Mongolian borders :)

Who has this game? Its been stuck at someone for a while. :(
CG
Sultan Bhargash Dec 01, 2002, 10:13 PM I sent it to Plexus, um, I think, a few days ago.
Sultan Bhargash Dec 09, 2002, 09:58 PM IF NOBODY RESPONDS TO THIS THREAD/GAME BY FRIDAY DECEMBER 13 I AM GOING TO DECLARE THE GAME DEAD AND GIVE UP ON IT.
ProPain Dec 10, 2002, 05:11 PM pity if it's going to die, I like the idea. This almost how I used to play Risk when it was only me and a friend. Both would play two seperate colors but only one color could win, own a continent for bonus etc. Great way to play.
Sultan Bhargash Dec 10, 2002, 05:58 PM Maybe we will go to "Four Armed Monsters", and play with 2 players and 4 civs...
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 01:10 PM Interesting concept. Lots of play time, minimal waiting. I do see a problem though. I would have one civ produce swarms of reg warriors to reap GL with the other civs. Did you guys have this problem?
Sultan Bhargash Dec 11, 2002, 01:15 PM No, we never had this problem because we only just started discovering other civs, let alone our own. This game is OVAH!
ProPain Dec 12, 2002, 02:38 PM With 2 civs each it will take a hile to discover each other, with 4 each that would be easier and more problematic.
Changed your avatar I see. Personally I liked the blue turban one best ;)
KaNick Dec 12, 2002, 04:20 PM It seems that when i sent the game to cgannon i forgot to play my second civ. He sent me an email explaining this but i accidently deleted it without even opening it. Luckly i came across it today as i was cleaning out my trash and have sent it to cgannon. I am sorry for the confusion and will now beat myself intill the same is wiped clean.
Sultan Bhargash Dec 12, 2002, 05:04 PM Nick I am so glad you cleared this up.
Might be fun to play more.
@Propain, wow thanks for remembering that! I will go back to the old photo sooner or later, just having fun.
Plexus Dec 13, 2002, 06:03 PM So the game is still on! Yay!
cgannon64 Dec 18, 2002, 02:36 PM This game lives!
I am sorry for the delay, I lost everything on my hard drive on Monday, finally got the internet running yesterday, so I was unable to respond. Anyway, I have the save, but with nothing on my computer, and having to rewrite all my long-term projects over (all gone...!), I'm going to have to have self-control and swear of Civ for a while.
Whoever wants to replace me, PM me.
