View Full Version : What new music should I buy?
azzaman333 Mar 07, 2010, 05:24 AM My craving for more music needs to be filled again, but I've already listened to everything I most recently binged on multiple times.
So I need suggestions for new music to buy!
I'm more interested in modern indie/alt rock than most oth genres, but I'd be willing to give almost anything at least a listen.
BCLG100 Mar 07, 2010, 06:39 AM Black kids, delphic, frank turner, LCD soundsystem has a new album out/soon i believe, justice 'Across the universe (live)' is always worth it if you haven't indulged, jamie t has started being plugged on the radio, the new courteneers album is apparently reasonable, bombay bicycle club, the big pink.
Most of them are indie/ indie dance if you haven't heard of them.
bigdog5994 Mar 07, 2010, 08:52 AM none only listen to old music
Heretic_Cata Mar 07, 2010, 10:19 AM the big pink.
This. Their album is great - and i dont even like indie electro that much.
I'd recommend - Julian Casablancas' solo album. Indie + synthpop
Also Telegraphs - We Were Ghosts. (2008) - some noobs trying to sing indie actually get it right.
The Twilight Sad's - Forget the Night Ahead dark shoegaze
The Editors new album - dark synthpop.
White Lies' album - flawless Joy Division inspired post-punk revival.
I'll think of less dark albums later when im in a different mood. :D
Oh, one band that seems to be getting flawless reviews from critics is The Drums. They're some sort of surf rock & indie pop combination. Other than sounding different than the rest of the lot i dont see what's impressive about them. You could try their EP and see for yourself.
dannyshenanigan Mar 07, 2010, 11:19 AM If your looking from something in that genre I would suggest the band
Portugal. The Man from Wasilla, Alaska. I just saw them in concert last week in Chicago . They're an indie/alt rock band at the core but with some nice subtle soul, folk, funk, blues, Southern rock, electronic influences.

White Lies' album - flawless Joy Division inspired post-punk revival.= one of my favourite albums of last year, you say Joy Division but i can also hear heavy editors influences which i like.
I also love the direction the Editors have taken and find Papillion a very nice change of pace!
Dell19 Mar 07, 2010, 02:08 PM bombay bicycle club
Thats one of my favourite albums at the moment.

I like it when a band evolves and doesnt stagnate in a single style, regardless how great that style may be. Experimentation is good.
BCLG100 Mar 08, 2010, 09:04 AM I've also had a bit of time recently for mumford and sons, not heard the entire album yet though.
warpus Mar 08, 2010, 08:52 PM I discovered Miike Snow @ Lollapalooza last year. His stuff kicks ass.

Indie + Eastern European folk music = nice
BCLG100 Mar 09, 2010, 12:25 PM New MGMT single is getting its first play on BBC radio 1 in five minutes. Big fan of their last album so will be interesting to see where this goes.
Edit- Errrr I am really not sure about it tbh, quite a different tack to their original singles (time to pretend, kids etc) Perhaps a few more listens to will have an effect.
azzaman333 Mar 10, 2010, 03:24 AM Must've bee some sort of worldwide thing, since I heard it on Triple J at almost the exact same time.
It felt like it would've been a solid album filler, but as the first single for a new album it's nothing special. Especially compared to Kids or Electric Feel

BCLG100 Apr 25, 2010, 06:38 PM Not so keen on the new MGMT album but still only listened a few times.
However, the xx album is very good, very chilled out.
Love Apr 26, 2010, 03:49 AM Yeah, it's great (the xx)
But you get tired of the sound too quick...

Yeah, but my experience with it was just a (very good) week
GoodGame Apr 29, 2010, 01:29 PM Try some miscellaneous Phish.
BCLG100 May 09, 2010, 03:48 AM Have you had a listen to Delphic- Acolyte? Been out for a few months now but fairly listenable to.
Clownboss May 09, 2010, 01:06 PM I don't know what you have listened to so far, but I'd recommend King Crimson. Specifically, their first album, In The Court of the Crimson King.
