One of the first orders of business is to decide what our AMAZON acronym will mean.

You will notice that the we have always used the word "AMAZON" to describe ourselves and that "AMAZON" has always been in caps.

The plural of "AMAZON" has always been AMAZONs with a lowercase "s" and we have not been referring to ourselves as "Amazonians."

This is why..."AMAZON" is an acronym... A.M.A.Z.O.N., ... and now we need to decide what each letter in it means... :confused:

It is a mystery that has elluded our wisest soothsayers and preistesses for generations, but now we will unravel this mystery together...:eek:

So reply to this thread with your suggestions/ideas/comments, and as with all things, we AMAZONs will decide with a vote, once all AMAZONs with ideas have come forward with their choices.:D

Especially when the acronym already exists and THEN you try to find the meaning. This gives rather strange result IMO.

Zenobia famously wore golden chains in Aurelian's military triumph parade in Rome. She was eventually given an estate and became a prominent Roman matron. Notice the Wrist Bracers (like Diana) and the Golden Chain in the picture above.

IMHO this is a ringer! Perhaps the mystery has finally been unraveled. The Golden Ropes that Diana gives us at our induction cerominies are actually a symbol of the golden chains worn by our Matron Saint, the Warrior Queen Zenobia.

We can choose which word to use for the other letters (I listed a few possibilities). What do AMAZONs think about this?:D

Now what the other AMAZON stands for is still unclear. Perhaps we'll find out in time.

But I agree that Zenobia is worthy of our tribe. She should definitely get a city or unit named after her.

@r20 - Maybe your point about keeping it a secret could be fun. Maybe only AMAZONs are allowed to know/say the WHOLE meaning, but we can slowly reveal parts of the meaning to our allies in our diplomacy with them. A great opportunity to do a little role-playing.

Maybe every 100 years or so we reveal a different part, or with every diplomatic message we tell a little tiny bit of the story...

The mystery could also be a great topic for our international newspaper!:D

Or that it is so sacred that we can never say it, like the Jewish Tetragrammaton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetragrammaton), the name of the God of Israel, which we never say. Ever ever.

Ancient Jewish tradition said that the name could only be said by the High Cohen, on Yom Kippur, inside the First or Second Temples of Jerusalem (the First being the Temple of Solomon). Which pretty much means it could only be said by the holiest person on Earth, at the holiest time of the year, at the holiest place on Earth. Most people didn't even know what the name was. During prayer, Jews say fillers words, and when not during prayer, we just say Hashem, which literally means "The Name" in Hebrew. So it could be like that.

Or alternatively, we could just do like nabaxo said and tell each team it stands for something different. That would just be hilarious! We'd need to think of five different things.

I like the AMAZON's Mighty Alliance of the Zenobian Omnipotent Nations. Then to make it make sense (for we'd be one civilization, not an alliance of several) we could make our civ divided into city-state type things, like in Ancient Greece, where Athens and Sparta would have two different governments. So then they would be an alliance, like a confederacy.

But that would be our story to just one team, we'd need 4 more of those. And they need to contradict each other as much as possible. Like for instance the next one could include a legend of how the universe was created by an ancient dragon with seven heads (Hydra?) who made the Sun out of his fiery breath, and he ruled over the universe for many thousands of years, and when he was ready to die he curled up into a ball and became the Earth on which we live on today. But he had a bunch of fleas on his body (we won't provide any explanation of how they got there :D). And it gets even weirder.

No, we aren't descendants of those fleas, cause that would just be too simple. No, the fleas were gods, and each one had been sucking the blood of the great dragon from a different head, and each head did different things, so the fleas gained special powers based on the head that they had been living on. And they became the great gods that the AMAZONs worship. One made the sea, one the trees, etc. etc. Then after that the seven god-fleas wove their spirits into one and left their great bodies as a mountain and flew into the sky, exploding and creating a bunch of sparkles in the sky (the stars). Then one of the pieces fell back down on the mountain and where it struck there was a volcano, that erupted a while later.

The only problem was the Earth was still the great body of the seven-headed dragon in his sleep, and when the volcano erupted and matter came out from within the body, some of the dragons' soul came out and that became life. And to this day our civ still worships AMAZON, the Awesome Monster that Attacks Z_____ Of N_______

I don't think it's appropriate to call a suggestion retarded. Just say you don't like it because you don't think we should have a humorous name. That way you get your opinion across with supporting reasons without attacking someone else's idea.

Now that the game has started, we can give our Civ a unique Name, short name and adjective. We don't Have to stick with AMAZON Empire. For Example, CDZ is the "CDZerian Kleptocracy", or something like that.

I sugggest that our Official name, the one that you see when you log in should be: Zenobian Omnipotent Nations

Allied Magnificent Accolytes should be Our Short Name (the one you see when you scroll over the Units/Territory)

And "AMAZON" should be Our adjective - what you see for culture (ie. 75% AMAZON, 25% Dutch) or for when it says "Your scout was killed by an AMAZON Immortal"

Imo "matriarchy" should definately be in the name there somewhere.
