At the request of other CFCers, this thread is for stories, screenshots and events from the "Pioneer" Play-by-email Multiplayer game only. It was the first of its kind started on CFC, hence the interest in how long it takes before people start backstabbing each other :).

Also playing:

Joespaniel (Germany)
Cgannon64 (Celts)
Grandmasta Nick (Egypt)
Mauiduck (replacing Wildfire444 as Persia)

Three AI players control China, the United States and Rome.

I will be moving some documents and historical data on the progress of the British Empire in the "Pioneer" logistics thread shortly. Stay tuned.

Primitive cave drawings.

Here is a re-post of my scout's discoveries, as recorded in the dawn of a primitive era. A more useful but censored shot of the world around me will follow next turn.

And here is the screenshot from the game's first contact between me and the Yankees. I have since moved just beyond those mountains, found Washington, and shifted west again to follow the path of the "Richard Mountains" back to the sea.

So far, I have made one tech trade with the Celts, who have also made one trade with the Egyptians (as noted above, the Egyptians appear to be somewhere to the north, northeast or east of my position). I also - top secret info coming... - made a fairly helpful military trade with my friends the Americans.

The gap in the mountains in view in this shot has been christened "Contact Pass" in the story notes I have; my primary strategic fear right now is that the Americans will spill north through this pass into the fertile plain above before I can get there in strength. However, there are two bits of good news; first, that the Americans have already founded New York and it is somewhere else, and second, by a process of elimination, it seems fair to guess that the Romans are south of the Americans and therefore acting as a counterpressure on them.

Here is the latest map of the Land of the Celts, fresh from the Carthographer's Office in Entremont. Top Secret details of the map have been censored, but the rest is free for the uncivilized tribes to view.

A Brief Celtic History: Our land was named and founded in 4000BC when the first Gallic settlers decided to settler down. They claimed various parts of their land, and exploration quickly revealed lesser advanced neigbors. As of late, the Celtic territory has nearly doubled in size, and exotic Incenses have come under our control.

Unfortunately, the map is too large for this forum. I'll get back later to post it.

Perisa wonders aloud why Germany doesn't wax the Chinese...:)...Things on the Persian front are slow. We have three cities going now but we need more laborers. Our development of Iron Working is almost complete and soon it is hopeful that we can produce our Immortals and send them far and wide. King Maui or He Who Strikes his Thunderstick against the Backside of Ur, (the Goddess of fertility) has ordered that once Immortals join the ranks that we set out in serach of laborers for the emerging Empire's growth. Persia has one division of warriors to the north east while another heads due north. Barring a radical departure of events, our advisers speculate that we might be on AN ISLAND CONTINENT...:ack:

Earlier German sages once believed this too, about our homeland. The discovery of the Chinese, and a landbridge to (?) somewhere... has renewed our efforts to make contact with other tribes.

LOL@ joespaniel's Civ avatars. Persia is rich and we are the capital of surfing in the Ancient world. (We have just got done discovering Leashes. We are researching the Thruster right now...LOL..:)....) Things are quiet in our neighborhood. One of our wariors has discovered another lost village of huts and as they bmove inot to discover what they are about are military is posied should evil barbs come spilling out. We are two turns away from Immortals and are hoping that are present boundaries will also have the iron neccessary to create our mighty units to defend the Bank of Persia. Since we have no customers the Mighty King Duck or He Who Makes the Earth Tremble with the Roar of His Bowels has ordered that all money be put into research to keep up with our expectations and the advances of our as-of-yet undiscovered neighbors.

The mighty Egyptians, upon advice of council have decided to expand their territory. We plan to settle in the fertial banks of one of many river banks in our area. We already have Iron working:P and should get another settler in 4 turns. Then at a rate of one every 5 turns:). "Suck it Trebeck" *Nick slaps everyone in the room with a large trout.;)

The German people have gone into total war-production mode, gearing up for an attack on China.

The goal is not to conquer them in entirety, but to "slow them down" enough so Germany is ensured to dominate our little corner of the world. And hopefully net some workers. ;)

The Lone Warrior trudges through dense jungle in hopes of discovering other, more hospitable neighbors. Peril lurks at every turn, behind every tree, around ervery hill...

Persia 24 -- The great Persians have begun work on another settler. A division of spearmen have moved up to protect our worker in case the village spawns hostile barbarians when our warrior encounters them next turn. Our other warrior continues to explore north, while our workers toil endlessly to run more roads and mines and to connect our two great cities.

The Latest Reports: The great city of Entremont gears up to recruit new Celtic settlers to furthur our grip on our territory. Spearmen divisions are shuffled around to protect our brave future settlers. Exploration continues to reveal our world, and we encounter an Egyptian warrior in the Southern Jungles. Our foolhardy warriors wish to attack, but we call it off just in time. ;) Our other warrior division continues their trek west in search of another culture who is believed to be there. (I'll post a map when its my turn again. I just found out that you can't reload saves you already played. :()

Our newest city was founded this turn upon the banks of the river Nile. the name of this great city is Memphos. Also an evil barb camp has been spotted in the distance, our warrriors are prparing to take those evil dmons to the pits of hell, were they belong.

I have decided to change strategy, and will build 3 new cities instead of building up for war.

An interesting developemnet with regards to China, they are in as bad a position as I am, and are expanding slowly. Once I have 6 cities, I may go ahead and attack after all.

Bah! Who am I kidding, ofcourse I'm going to go to war with them! :mwaha:

Persia flexes her military muscle as pretty boy barbarians with flowing hair are given the bronze by our newly created phalanyx of Spearmen. We have discovered a vast plain of Elephants and, according to our scouts, an Elephant's Graveyard of ivory! The Bank of Persia is expecting a susbstantial economic boost onece the settlement and annexation are complete. Judging from intel made public by other nations, public opinion is strong in the belief that we are alone, however, due to the barbarian hordes our exploratory division of warriors who were enroute to confirm such a belief were refitted and renamed for combat to help defend the vaults of our good King...

Our freshest troops have been sent north to dispatch a rebel barbarian camp, who are apparently sitting north of our city and spitting and throwing various farm animals at us. ;) Our continued exploration has allowed our cartogrephers to estimate that we are on a ball shaped peninusula, along with Nick, with RIII and the Americans protruding in a shaft to the south. Hopefully that helps some of you figure out where you are. :D

Perisa goes and now we have three cities with a fourth one soon to built near the Elephant's Graveyard so that we may become richer with our ivory and our industrious people will live the good life of splendor. Science progresses rather quickly, even though we are still alone in the world. Our warrior scout, fresh from having achieved veteran status, thanks to their victories in the Barbarian Wars are back enroute to the north. Another worker was ordered up to help connect our third city to the other two and develop more bonus grasslands near our second city. The source of the barbarian scourge has been identified! Our great Leader King Duck or He Whose Thunder Stick Makes Mules Blush has ordered a detachment of spearmen and two warriors to wipe out the camp and restore security to the financial center of the free known world.

The Age of Boredom continued to reign over the stale lonely existwence of Persia. Efforts to explore have been hindered by barbarians. We have wiped them out but have noticed that when our troops leave they reappear...gasp.... We have begun to make plans to "farm" these barbarian resources and add that to the wealth that is accumulating from our gems, so when we do contact the others the coffers of the Bank of Persia will be full. Until then historians agree that this will go down as the Era of Yawns.

At great expense, the government of the Kingdom of England is proud to announce the opening of two new embassy buildings. One is in the city of Thebes, and the other in Entremont. British foreign ministry staff are jockeying for an opportunity to work in the Thebes compound, since that city of 108,000, with its gleaming barracks and fine furs, looks to be the most fashionable spot to visit in the world so far.

(And I must say, HRH is amused to discover that Entremont - a tiny, cold, forlorn city much like London - is undefended! So the Celts are cocky as well as scruffy! If only that Egyptian warrior was in front of that capital instead of mine. Speaking of which, Nick...)

By Order of the Lord of Persia the Royal cartographers Office has released the following map of our region. The Persian government feels that making our intentions known in our region that planned growth and cooperation can develop. The sign of the Chinese horde and their disdain for banking has led our Generals to the conculsion that the sooner we can initiate military action, the better we will be at keeping the horde out of our sphere of influence. Several Immortals are soon to be dispatched to join the two archer divisions near the River Ur. While we don't know the intentions of the German scout, we can tell them that the ocean lies to the soputh of Persia and that all lands in that regin have been settled by the Persians. We hope the Germany will assist in our rightcheous cause of eliminating the Chinese menace which will provide room to grow for Germany and help us establish a military-economic alliance that will bring security to the region...:D
