I have taken a couple of cracks at immortal and found that some games I get boxed in too quickly and have no metals, horses, or ivory. In my recent game with Liz i had iron 3 squares away from my cap and two away from my second city but inside Hammy's culture. If someone were to get in a situation like this what should he do? i was thinking big draft war with muskets and trebs for seige but I tried it and failed miserably against Hammy and in other different games. I was feeling rushed to attack because my tech lead was vanishing because I never expanded much. Should someone in that place just wait longer?

Rifle+spy draft war.

And, expand more rapidly.

What TMIT said or trade for iron for 1 turn to upgrade a bunch of trebuchets. (resource that you can pillage to cancel the iron deal)

Also, if you can wait, artillery have no resource requirement. But seriously...3 tiles from London and you couldn't culture flip the tile? Moreover: 3 tiles from London and Hammy settled a key strategic resource? Neither of those things should be true, imo. If you put your :hammers: into units, then you should control the area around your capital with new cities (assuming you aren't 5 tiles from hammy's). If you put them into infra/wonders, you should control it with culture from your capital. What were you building?

Well, peacespace is quite possible on Immortal at the nat wonder threshold city amount, depending on your leader and land. And as noted Inf/Arty is the best resourceless combo, but don't count out something like LB/Catapult - that can work just fine in many situations.

LB/Cata is untraditional but pretty much everything works if you throw enough siege after it first

He settled right next to my resource with his third city. his cap was maybe 10 tiles away from mine and my first city went towards a gem site. I also did not have iron working by the time he settled that spot. I was researching it and got extremely angry when I saw where it was.
