Welcome. This thread will be where I keep the progress of my DefiningTechs mod.

Simply put, this mod will make it so each civilization will start out with 1-3 techs that defined the civilization in comparison to the others. This will make the game a little more interesting, because each civilization will be more specialized.

The toughest part will be balance. My main priority is to make it so that each civilization's technologies that are granted will add up to the same amount of beakers. Then I have to balance it out from there.

Right now I am assigning the technologies, soon I will implement them into the game and test for balance issues. My hope is that after enough testing, I will have a mod where each civilization has its defining technologies without being unfair towards certain civilizations.

My main problems are
1. Some civilization, like Zulu and Native Americans, do not really have any defining technologies.
2. The technologies that found religions are hard to place, since some civilizations that founded a tech had nothing to do with the religion (Greeks discovered philosophy, but they were never Taoist).

This will be my first mod, but it is a relatively simple mod. I would like some comments and criticism. Also please let me know if I am forgetting anything. The more questions you ask, the better I can make this mod.

Seeing as how this would be rather difficult to do and that Civ is no where near perfect in the aspect of techs 'cuz it's a mere game, I would specialize Civs by their traits. Specific traits can get specific techs at a discount. But alas this is your mod you can do what you want.

I'd rather see 3 or 4 Traits per civ than "future" techs.

What about giving each leader a negative trait, like Arrogance, Stupidity, or Cowardess, that all have unique negative effects?

That's thinking outside the box.

3 possitive and 1 negative. That sound good. Can cause a lot of trolling, flaming and other nasty words on the forum when the Negatives are delivered though ;)

It would be easy to describe myself though : Extremely Handsome, Ultra Intelligent, Filthy Rich and Untrustworthy Liar ;)

I think my negative trait would be that I only have positive traits. Pure Awesome. :p
