In the next turn we will start mining, which will finish in 8 turns or less. Mining was an obvious choice but the next techs may need more discussion. Let's use this thread to discuss the pros and cons of the various techs, and in what order to research them.
Although we vote for the techs in the polls one-by-one, it would be good if we also discuss longer term plans here.
Here's a kick-off:
Mysticism: We need it for the monuments and, maybe, stonehenge. Also, we would need it if we want an early religion.
Pottery: We need it mainly for the granaries. Our land doesn't have much room for cottages.
Sailing: Will connect our cities and (many) resources. Allows transportation over seas. We won't build the lighthouses very soon.
The Wheel: Connecting cities can also be done with sailing. Faster movement is not a very high priority on our small island. Chariots may be useful if we don't find bronze.
Writing: We will need specialists to drive our economy
Bronze Working: Chopping and whipping!!
Archery: If we don't find bronze, we may need archers when we go to another island for barb protection.
Masonry: Allows us to build pyramids or great wall.
Horseback Riding: ...
I'd say BW has a very high priority, and we should try to have sailing when our 2nd city is being settled. Pottery and Myst should also priorities.
Let other try to go for the religions... we already get extra happiness and should use it to expand quicker than our rivals.
An important question is: do we want an early wonder? Stonehenge works great with our IMP. The GW is wonderful if there is an island overrun by barbs nearby. The pyramid is nice, especially since we will probably run a lot of specialists. If we want to pursue any of these we need to start planning...
