View Full Version : Cumulative Football Quiz #3
Dell19 Mar 23, 2003, 04:46 AM Okay hmmm which team is top of the premiership? Okay no thats a little too easy :D
Okay who did Grantham play on Saturday and what was the score. This question is a little unfair so I might change it if I think of a proper question.
willemvanoranje Mar 23, 2003, 01:10 PM  eeeeeer....I'm not even sure in what league they play? It's below Conference, isn't it?
Dell19 Mar 24, 2003, 01:46 AM Yep the division below the conference. Okay new question, who won the English second division playoffs last season?
I'll leave the other question open, just in case someone knows the answer.
MrPresident Mar 24, 2003, 06:13 AM Millwall?
Dell19 Mar 24, 2003, 09:24 AM Nope
col Mar 25, 2003, 02:35 AM Wycombe Wanderers?

Grantham (1)2 - 1(0) Hastings Utd ??
Elsaak Mar 25, 2003, 05:37 AM On 05/11/2002, Stoke have beaten Brentford 2-0 in the Second Division play-off final at the Millennium Stadium and are promoted to the first division.
col Mar 25, 2003, 06:02 AM What a remarkable memory - and you didnt look anything up at all?
Elsaak Mar 25, 2003, 06:56 AM No, I look for searches...
Is that forbidden ? If so, I didn't know, I'm sorry.
I let my turn open to Dell19 (if the answers were right...)
Dell19 Mar 25, 2003, 10:32 AM Its not allowed but you can have the next question.
Elsaak Mar 25, 2003, 10:48 AM Which was the first 5th division club in 1/4 final of the French Cup ?
a clue : it's in 2003....
Suppersalmon Mar 25, 2003, 11:02 AM Calais
Elsaak Mar 25, 2003, 02:54 PM No.
Calais was a 4th division, finalist in 2000
Dell19 Mar 26, 2003, 02:03 AM If I knew any fifth division French sides then I might be able to answer the question :D
Darkness Mar 26, 2003, 07:46 AM Originally posted by Dell19

That would be my problem too...
Elsaak Mar 26, 2003, 08:11 AM Ok, it's quite specific, I admit.
It's Schiltigheim FC (near Strasbourg, in Alsace)
An other question ?
Elsaak Mar 26, 2003, 02:41 PM On which continents Brasil already won a World Cup ?
MCdread Mar 26, 2003, 06:07 PM America (both north and south), Europe and Asia.
Archer 007 Mar 26, 2003, 09:09 PM Europe, South America, and North America.
Elsaak Mar 27, 2003, 01:54 AM archer_007, you missed the Korea-Japan last one ????
MCdread,
even if America (both north, south and CENTRAL) would be better, you're right ; it's your turn !
MrPresident Mar 27, 2003, 04:30 AM Central America isn't a continent.
Elsaak Mar 27, 2003, 04:56 AM sure !
and it's why the answer of MCdread is correct.
MCdread Mar 27, 2003, 06:02 AM What's called the Maracanazzo?
Dell19 Mar 27, 2003, 10:23 AM Is it a stadium in Brazil?
MCdread Mar 27, 2003, 10:39 AM That would be a little too obvious, wouldn't it?:p
Still it's a goo starting point... ;)
Dell19 Mar 27, 2003, 11:05 AM A section of stadium? :p
Suppersalmon Mar 27, 2003, 11:34 AM Brazil's main Stadium i think i saw it in Mike Basset England Manager i think
MCdread Mar 27, 2003, 11:40 AM No, it's not a stadium nor a part of a stadium. Brazil's main stadium is Maracanã, but judging from the similarity of both words, you can start by that.;)
zenga Mar 27, 2003, 12:11 PM Is it the name for the teams that play there? Fluminense, Flamingo?
MCdread Mar 27, 2003, 12:31 PM No.
Dell19 Mar 27, 2003, 12:51 PM Is it a place then? Not a person? Would it be a region or something?
MCdread Mar 27, 2003, 05:19 PM Nope, any of those, but at the same time it's related to everything you've said so far. :crazyeye:
Elsaak Mar 28, 2003, 02:52 AM Isn't it link to the lost in 1950, at home, no Maracanã, in final, against Uruguai...?
It's a kind of humiliation or great dishonor ?
Suppersalmon Mar 28, 2003, 10:49 AM An OLd stadium were they used to play
MCdread Mar 28, 2003, 04:48 PM Originally posted by Elsaak

I guess that's good. It is what they (uruguayans) called to what happened in the match: the unexpected victory, the shock that took over 200000 spectators, all crying for hours without even abandoning the stadium. Everything had a sense of irreality (?). It was a maracanazzo, like the uruguayans said.
col Mar 31, 2003, 08:44 AM While we're waiting for the next question, here's one I came across last weekend.
Internet research IS allowed otherwise you've no chance.
Which team conceded the first penalty in professional football?
polymath Mar 31, 2003, 08:51 AM Aston Villa?
Dell19 Mar 31, 2003, 09:29 AM Wolverhampton Wanderers :) Might be wrong because of the professional bit but apparently it was scored against Accrington Stanley.
col Mar 31, 2003, 11:57 AM It was indeed my home town of Accrington Stanley!!
:goodjob:
Dell19 Apr 01, 2003, 01:04 AM What a great claim to fame :)
In the last 5 seasons which team has been in these divisions in this order:
Dr Martins div 1
Dr Martins Prem
Dr Martins div 1
Dr Martins div 1
Dr Martins Prem
Should be very very very easy ;)
col Apr 01, 2003, 01:32 AM Dr Martins??
Just a wild guess but would it be Grantham?
MCdread Apr 01, 2003, 03:48 AM Dr Martins? Wow, I didn't know I had a division with my name (Martins is my last name)... :D
MrPresident Apr 01, 2003, 04:26 AM It was indeed my home town of Accrington Stanley!!
Accrington Stanley? Who are they?
Dr Martins? Wow, I didn't know I had a division with my name
You have a shoe company as well.
Dell19 Apr 01, 2003, 09:46 AM Yep its the same company as they sponsor the central divisions. Accrington Stanley are a non league team who used to be a professional team a long time ago. I believe the club had to close and then was reformed later on.
Btw Grantham is the correct answer!
willemvanoranje Apr 01, 2003, 01:28 PM  too bad i got here too late, it's too obvious Grantham is the answer
MrPresident Apr 02, 2003, 05:48 AM Accrington Stanley are a non league team who used to be a professional team a long time ago. I believe the club had to close and then was reformed later on. Have you never see the milk advert?
Dell19 Apr 02, 2003, 06:45 AM ??? nope...
col Apr 02, 2003, 08:18 AM And they are runaway leaders of the Unibond premier league. Only 5 promotions from challenging ManU!
They got paid enough by the milk marketing board for THAT ad  to pay for a new stand at their ground....
Come on you Stanley
Dell19 Apr 02, 2003, 11:03 AM You never know they might get to play Grantham in a couple of seasons... :)
willemvanoranje Apr 02, 2003, 02:20 PM wouldn't that be something
Dell19 Apr 03, 2003, 01:04 AM :)
Okay so we do need a new question, Mr Col?
col Apr 03, 2003, 01:31 AM I was just filling in time until the 'correct' question setter stepped forward. I'll have a think and post wen I get to work later...
Ok - who scored the first ever goal in the World Cup?
Tie breaking using teams and year ...
MCdread Apr 03, 2003, 04:24 AM Frenchman Lucien in the opening match of WC 1930 in Uruguay. The match was France-Mexico (4-1).
Elsaak Apr 03, 2003, 04:46 AM Lucien LAURENT was his full name
col Apr 03, 2003, 05:11 AM Mm - Elsaak had correct name but McDread had most details first.
The winner and setter of the next question is...
:goodjob:
McDread!!
MCdread Apr 03, 2003, 05:44 AM But now that Elsaak is here, wasn't it his turn?
Elsaak Apr 03, 2003, 06:15 AM I'm sorry : I was off last week-end, and let every one wait for a question ;
"How many countries ever win a C1 or Champion's League, and which ones ?"
zenga Apr 03, 2003, 06:29 AM A quick run through of winners gives me an answer of 10 (11 if West Germany is counted as different from Germany).
Countries...
Spain
Italy
Portugal
Scotland
England
Holland
(West Germany)
Romania
Yugoslavia
France
Germany
willemvanoranje Apr 03, 2003, 07:56 AM seems about it to me
Elsaak Apr 03, 2003, 10:27 AM That's right, boys !
Spain = 10 times
Italy = 9
England =9
Holland = 6
Germany = 6
Portugal = 3
Scotland = 1
Romania = 1
Yugoslavia = 1
France = 1
zenga, it's now your turn...
willemvanoranje Apr 03, 2003, 12:13 PM Spain: 9x Real, 1x Madrid
and Holland has just as much as Germany? again. :p Btw, didn't Steaua win twice?

Steaua only won once, they got thumped by Milan in a final in the '90s.
Following on from that question...
Name each of the clubs from the countries that have been European Cup winners.
willemvanoranje Apr 04, 2003, 01:39 AM Steaua, Benfica, Porto, Real, Barcelona, Red Star, Liverpool, Manchester UTD, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, Bayern Munchen, Borussia Dortmund, HSV, AC Milan, Internazionale, Juventus, Olympique Marseille, Celtic
zenga Apr 04, 2003, 04:21 AM :goodjob:
For some reason I always have trouble remembering Hamburg (possibly cause they won in between all the English sides). Your question, willem.
willemvanoranje Apr 04, 2003, 03:33 PM  and I thought I missed one...:p (although counting gave me the right numbers)
ok, let me see.....
Which club has played the most CL finals after Real Madrid?
MCdread Apr 04, 2003, 05:49 PM AC Milan (8, I think).
willemvanoranje Apr 05, 2003, 02:30 AM yupz, think so too. Bayern has (4 out of) 7, Ajax (4 out of) 6 and Benfica (2 out of) 6. Real is #1 of course with (9 out of) 11.
MCdread Apr 05, 2003, 06:24 AM Actually, Benfica has 7 finals and Real Madrid 12.
Ok, for my next question, we'll try something different. This may look hard at first, but all you need to do is watch the details of the picture and you'll get it.
Which team was playing home in this picture? ;)
willemvanoranje Apr 05, 2003, 06:38 AM hehe...ah well, it's hard remembering everything from top of the head. I should've written all years down or something, or at least checked ;) As for the pic.... Paris St. Germain? (<--- no clue).
It should be a southern country, or actually catholic country. See the Cathedral? :p FC Koeln is a guess too (in a not-Catholic country). Anyway, I'm not good at guessing churches.
MrPresident Apr 05, 2003, 06:51 AM It should be a southern country, or actually catholic country. See the Cathedral? We have Cathedrals in Britain. My guess would be Barcelona.
MCdread Apr 05, 2003, 07:52 AM Nope, wrong clubs so far. willem, PSG was only formed in the 70s.
The cathedral is the important detail indeed.:goodjob:
But there's another important detail inside the stadium that may help you.;)
MrPresident Apr 05, 2003, 08:24 AM But there's another important detail inside the stadium that may help you. It kind of looks like a cycling track.
MCdread Apr 05, 2003, 08:46 AM It kind of does indeed.
zenga Apr 05, 2003, 10:27 AM Is it the Velodrome? Marseilles?
Elsaak Apr 05, 2003, 01:14 PM This is the "Cathédrale de Paris", isn't it ?
So a Parisien team could be the Racing Club of France (RCF) in the Stade de Colombes ??
Suppersalmon Apr 05, 2003, 02:00 PM It looks like somthing i once saw in Bordeaux so im geussing there and the club that i know of playing there is Bordeaux FC
MCdread Apr 05, 2003, 02:39 PM To all: no.
But you are in the right track all of you.
Suppersalmon Apr 05, 2003, 04:13 PM Monaco's stadium ?
MCdread Apr 05, 2003, 04:49 PM To my knowledge there isn't any famous cathedral in Monaco. I wouldn't post this picture if both the cathedral in the background and the club in question hadn't any particular relevance.;)
Hitro Apr 05, 2003, 06:36 PM That looks like the Cathedral of Reims, so I say Stade Reims.

Doh again
Consider this my revenge for the draw yesterday at footiemanager.
Hitro Apr 06, 2003, 08:53 AM Next question, let's bring up another picture.
Which tournament was this guy's most successful one and why?
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 09:31 AM That's too easy for me.:D The guy is Eusébio and in terms of NT it was the WC of 1966 when he was the top goalscorer with 9 goals. with Benfica, maybe the Champions Cup of 1962 when he scored 2 or 3 goals in the final against Real Madrid.
BTW, this picture is in the final of 1963 against Milan.

There's a rule like that?
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:01 PM In WA threads there used to be such a rule. Don't see the point in threads like this.
For my next question follow the link I will provide in this post. It leads to my younger brother's page. Don't take care of what he has there, he's just learning how to build a webpage since last week. In the bottom of the page there will be a video showing (after two pictures and some text lines). If you only have windows media player it should load automaticly. I have real one player and something weird appears, but if you click with the right button and choose play with whatever you have it should work fine.
The question is: Who is the player performing this (http://mega.ist.utl.pt/~tacm/) superb trick?
Please, tell me if you can't watch the video and I'll send to you by email. I don't post it here because it's over 100kb.
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:05 PM Telmo Martins? :p
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:09 PM It ain't working. Damn!

willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:11 PM eeeeuh?
was I right?
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:13 PM
I get it now. No, Telmo Martins is my brother's name. :D
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:14 PM  ah well, it was worth trying :p I saw a name, then some kind of interview under it and the trick. Easy to link them: name of trick-guy, interview about that game and the trick, trick shown on video...:p
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:17 PM No, the interview is something else he has there. It has nothing to do with the video. It's a guy that calls to a company's operator and starts complaining about one of their products. It's really funny, but you had to understand portuguese for that.
So, you're having no problems with the video part, right?
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:22 PM Can you give us a clue on the teams? The reds are Benfica? And the others are FC Porto (it seems black/white instead of blue/white though)
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:25 PM The teams are not portuguese and I'm not imagining a german or english player doing something like this, are you? :D
OK, this didn't happen in Europe.
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:26 PM no problem with video ;)
so this in in Brazil hm?
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:27 PM Brazil is outside Europe...:D
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:33 PM ok, ok....Botafago? I don't know a lot of players in Brazil, so I can merely guess for the club. :p I have a Brazilian guy in my class though....or would that be considered cheating? :D
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:40 PM It would be hard for me to go there and punish you for that!:p
It ain't Botafogo either.
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:41 PM hmmz, I give up for tonight Corinthians?
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:45 PM No.
But if you go away, someone else will get it. You still have the entire night to guess. I won't be too far away from my computer. :p
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:52 PM  maybe, but people want to watch sports 'n' stuff....
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 01:54 PM See, you already wasted one post, when you coud have made another guess. Tsk, tsk...
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 01:59 PM Fluminense, Gremio, Sao Paulo, Cruzeiro, Atlethico Mineiro, FC Santos, Vasco da Gama, Flamengo or Coritiba?
MCdread Apr 06, 2003, 02:01 PM Gosh, you really let it all come out. It is one of the clubs you said.;)
willemvanoranje Apr 06, 2003, 02:03 PM really? I didn't even get both sides? Let's do it one at a time then....Atletico Mineiro?

Não é o Gilberto Silva (It's not Gilberto Silva). It's a player that doesn't play in Brazil anymore, but it's quite well known for these kind of plays. Btw, we don't say meia in Portugal, but rather médio. ;)
Je voudrai d'écrire "Ils sont fous ces civfanatics" ou "civfanatiques", mais on ne peut pas avoir des titres trop grands.
I hope it's allright. I don't have french classes since 1994.

Looks a bit too skillful for Jardel. My guess is Cafu.
Elsaak Apr 07, 2003, 04:59 AM Is it Ronaldinho ???

It is Ronaldinho Gaúcho and the club really is Grémio de Porto Alegre. I allways make this mistake with clubs from Rio Grande do Sul (Grémio, Internacional) and Minas Gerais (Cruzeiro, Atlético Mineiro). Sorry about that everyone. A particular apologize to willem for that mistake yesterday.

no problem. Wouldn't have thought of a good question anyway ;)
Elsaak Apr 08, 2003, 05:11 AM Speed question :
Who was the first scorer during the last WC ?
Darkness Apr 08, 2003, 06:07 AM The first game of the WC was France (defending champs) - Senegal and Senegal won 0-1....
I don't exactly recall the name of the goalscorer... I think it was either Diouf or Diop...?

polymath Apr 08, 2003, 10:24 AM That's El-Hadji Diouf (spelling? no idea) who is at Liverpool.
Dell19 Apr 08, 2003, 10:27 AM There is another player that I believe is from Senegal that also plays for Liverpool.
polymath Apr 08, 2003, 10:37 AM Oh, that's Diao....
Diouf, Diop and Diao must be confusing for commentators for Senegal internationals.
Elsaak Apr 08, 2003, 10:55 AM El Hadji Ousseynou DIOUF is actually playing in Liverpool ; he come from Lens (2001-2002) ; even if he is the best scorer during the qualif (9/14 gaols !), he didn't score during the WC02
Papa Bouba DIOP was the first scorer ; he scores 3 times. He actually plays in Lens.
polymath, it's your turn, I think....
polymath Apr 08, 2003, 11:11 AM Oh, OK, maybe Darkness has a claim, but I'll go anyway....
Who was top goal scorer (and how many goals) in the 1978 world cup.
MCdread Apr 08, 2003, 11:19 AM Mario Kempes, with 6 goals.
polymath Apr 08, 2003, 11:26 AM Bingo MCdread! Your turn....
MCdread Apr 08, 2003, 11:40 AM Who missed a goal in the last minute of the regular time in the final of that competition, a goal that would give Holland the Cup?
willemvanoranje Apr 08, 2003, 12:57 PM Rob Rensenbrink, he hit the post :( He stated himself though, that he couldn't have scored, because shooting the ball on the post was as close as he could get.
MCdread Apr 08, 2003, 01:36 PM :goodjob:
Yep, that was the man indeed. I once wrote an article for a now dead football site dedicated to the WC, called Resenbrink and Kempes, which was sort of a what if Resenbrink had scored. And I debated what would be the status of both players right at present. Remember that if Resenbrink had scored, he would be the topgoalscorer with 6 goals insted of Kempes. They would completely switch positions. ;)
willemvanoranje Apr 10, 2003, 01:54 PM I can't really come up with a good question....as usual nowadays
MCdread Apr 10, 2003, 01:59 PM Then come with one... not so good.:p

Name 4 teams from South Africa
:p
MCdread Apr 10, 2003, 02:10 PM I'm almost getting the fourth, but don't want others to steal my clubs. I'll think about it later. I must get home now, spent all day in my lab...
willemvanoranje Apr 10, 2003, 02:13 PM that's why I said 4, everyone can come up with 3 :p
Elsaak Apr 11, 2003, 11:27 AM in Jo'burg, you have :
Jomo Cosmos,
Kaiser Chiefs
Orlando Pirates
and in Cape Town....
Elsaak Apr 11, 2003, 11:27 AM Ajax Cape Town (!!) and
Santos (!!!)
willemvanoranje Apr 12, 2003, 03:13 AM Chiefs, Pirates and Ajax Cape Town were the easiest I guess. Bloemfontein is another South-African side. :) Your question Elsaak.
Elsaak Apr 12, 2003, 07:32 AM I saw once the Kaisers playing in African Championship Club (or something like that) in La Réunion, where I use to live sometimes ago.
It was a pretty good team.
Darkness Apr 16, 2003, 06:24 AM hey, Elsaak, what's keeping you? ;)
It's your question....
Elsaak Apr 16, 2003, 06:46 AM who win the today's Arsenal vs MU ?
and who is the first scorer ?
MCdread Apr 16, 2003, 08:02 AM And I thought that my photo and video questions last week were somewhat original fot this quiz. :crazyeye:
But this one sets it into another level. Remember folks, we have a gentleman's agreement that we shouldn't check it out. So, don't turn your TV on. :p
So, no need to wait. I say Man Utd and Ruud van Nistelroij.
Vraslosken Apr 16, 2003, 08:48 AM Asenal and O Shea own goal
willemvanoranje Apr 16, 2003, 08:59 AM Arsenal, Henry (when does the game start?)
polymath Apr 16, 2003, 09:05 AM 8.00 p.m UK time
polymath Apr 16, 2003, 09:07 AM I predict first scorer will be Beckham, from a free kick conceded by Martin 'elbows' Keown for a foul on Van Nistelrooy (thus continuing their little feud).
Man United will win the match, and the league.

No one. 0-0.
A good bet at 7/1! Nice one, Elsaak! :D
Elsaak Apr 16, 2003, 09:27 AM And the best, with this prospective question, is that I can play !!!
I say Arsenal and Henry (like wvo)
Dell19 Apr 17, 2003, 03:32 AM So effectively Zenga gets the next question as he was closest to the right result.
col Apr 17, 2003, 05:25 AM I'd say 2-2 draw with a great finsh from LvN as the opening goal.
What do you mean I'm too late; Why can't I bet after the race has finished?
zenga Apr 17, 2003, 06:02 AM Nice try. col. If it wasn't for those damned edit tags I may have tried to pull a fast one myself!
OK, assuming I was closest for guessing a draw...
English league championship, FA Cup, and English League Cup - the three major domestic trophies in English football.
Name the last English managers to pick up each of these trophies (preferably giving the club they won it with and the season/year).
Note: I am looking for 3 names, 1 for each competition, to make it clear.
MCdread Apr 17, 2003, 10:16 AM Damn! I thought the match was in Old Trafford. I would have settled for a draw if I knew... :mischief:
Suppersalmon Apr 17, 2003, 11:31 AM Alex FEegeson is one
Premier league 92/93
Fa Cup 93/94
LEague cup 1990

Sorry, Suppersalmon. I guess I never explained it clearly enough. I'm looking for the last Englishman that have won for each of the competitions. For example, last season:
League - Arsene Wenger (Arsenal),
FA Cup - Arsene Wenger (Arsenal),
League Cup - Graeme Souness (Blackburn),
none of whom are English born!
The question is maybe better read
For each of the above competitions, name the last Englishman to manage the victors (with club, year).
I hope that's easier to understand! :crazyeye:
col Apr 18, 2003, 08:16 AM Mm - Howard Wilkinson managed Leeds to League some time ago. I'll have to think about the other two.
zenga Apr 18, 2003, 08:59 AM That's one (point to col).
League Championship - Howard Wilkinson (Leeds Utd, 1991-92).
Only the cups to go. :)
Dell19 Apr 19, 2003, 03:40 AM Okay with the FA cup I am guessing at Joe Royle with Everton.
The league cup could be Aston Villa with John Gregory.
Not really sure on either answer but they could be right.
col Apr 19, 2003, 04:10 AM Great question - when you think about it, there arent many ENGLISH managers in the Premiership.
I wondered if Keegan had won anything as manager - or Bobby Robson but couldnt remember them winning anything!

Point to Dell.
FA Cup - Joe Royle (Everton, 1995).
Pretty close on the other one too! ;)
Dell19 Apr 19, 2003, 07:20 AM Aston Villa with someone else? hmmm have to do some thinking.
Suppersalmon Apr 19, 2003, 11:23 AM Brian Little was an aston Villa Manager hes English so i guess him year 1995
zenga Apr 19, 2003, 02:06 PM Yep, or close enough.
League Cup - Brian Little (Aston Villa, 1996).
Since Dell was almost there, next question to him.
Dell19 Apr 20, 2003, 04:41 AM Yeah I found out it was Brian Little later on. It was annoying as I just couldn't remember his name... The problem is that I now need to think up a new question.
At the start of the last English Premiership season (Not this one, the one before :)), which team were top after the first game?
Suppersalmon Apr 20, 2003, 10:43 AM Ipswich
Dell19 Apr 21, 2003, 04:14 AM Nope
Suppersalmon Apr 21, 2003, 06:08 AM Sunderland
Dell19 Apr 22, 2003, 03:14 AM Nope, they are still in the Premiership. Come on where are the other people just guessing?
zenga Apr 22, 2003, 03:49 AM Was it Charlton?
I seem to remember they won their first game 5-0 a season or two back, although I would have thought suppersalmon would have noticed if that was the case!
Suppersalmon Apr 22, 2003, 07:47 AM Charlton was in the 98/99 season i was very happy Charlton fan then 5-0 against southampton and 0-0 agaisnt newcastle put us top after 2 games
Leeds
Darkness Apr 22, 2003, 10:27 AM Chelsea?
willemvanoranje Apr 22, 2003, 11:33 AM Bolton!
MCdread Apr 22, 2003, 11:47 AM Aston Villa
col Apr 22, 2003, 12:42 PM Wow - first game - I have no idea without looking up the results of the opening day.
Liverpool
Kennelly Apr 22, 2003, 02:19 PM As we were ordered to guess-Tottenham?
Dell19 Apr 23, 2003, 07:26 AM Willem got it right! It was Bolton after they won 5-0 at home against Leicester. :) Your question Willem.
willemvanoranje Apr 23, 2003, 08:06 AM :D I knew it. They had a very impressive first few games :)
Which team was the last amateur team to reach the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) final?
willemvanoranje Apr 24, 2003, 11:04 AM oh c'mon guys!
MCdread Apr 24, 2003, 11:45 AM Weren't there some amateur guys in one of the last editions of the competitions?
willemvanoranje Apr 24, 2003, 11:50 AM just a few guys isn't enough, it's about a whole team. To make it clearer, amateur goes for all teams under the 2.Bundesliga (so that's Regionalliga or lower). An example is 1993, when Bayer Leverkusen played in the final against the amateurs of Hertha BSC.
MCdread Apr 24, 2003, 11:57 AM Yeah, I know. I just wasn't sure if it was the german or french cup. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't in the 50s or something. ;)
willemvanoranje Apr 24, 2003, 01:35 PM no, no....it happened 3 times in the last 10 years.
Vraslosken Apr 25, 2003, 04:10 AM It stood in the Norwegian newspapers last year or the year before that. that a tem called Union Berlin or something like that would play in the European cup. Could this be because they had reached the cupfinal? I guess so. I guess it was in 2001.
willemvanoranje Apr 26, 2003, 02:56 AM Union Berlin was the last one indeed :goodjob: In (I think) 1997 Energie Cottbus was in the final, now they are in the 1.Bundesliga. Your question!
Vraslosken Apr 26, 2003, 03:48 PM OK, lets see: What Norwegian player has won the Premier League with two different teams? :) That one should not be too hard i guess.
col Apr 27, 2003, 05:32 AM Hmm Ole and Ronny Johnson obviously won it with ManU but I dont think either have won it with other teams.
Good question.
Dell19 Apr 27, 2003, 06:40 AM What about Henning Berg? Is he Norwegian and did he win it twice?
col Apr 27, 2003, 06:58 AM Ah yes - I think you've got it there Blackburn and ManU :goodjob:
Vraslosken Apr 27, 2003, 06:59 AM Dell19:goodjob:
Henning Berg is Norwegian all right. He won it with Blackburn and Manchester United. Your turn.
Dell19 Apr 27, 2003, 07:03 AM Wow great guess then :)
Must avoid another non league question...
A World Cup question. Which player scored the most goals in the 98 WC?
and for which country?
Vraslosken Apr 27, 2003, 07:07 AM Davor Suker Croatia:)
Dell19 Apr 27, 2003, 07:10 AM Correct! your question :)
willemvanoranje Apr 27, 2003, 02:49 PM too easy
Vraslosken Apr 28, 2003, 02:26 AM OK a little harder then: What team in the world has most league victories in a row?
Dell19 Apr 28, 2003, 03:37 AM lol from any club in the world? So it could a team from India or something?
MCdread Apr 28, 2003, 04:00 AM I'll go for Rosenborg as my first shot.
Dell19 Apr 28, 2003, 04:06 AM Barry Town  This could go on for quite some time...
willemvanoranje Apr 28, 2003, 05:43 AM FC Encamp
Vraslosken Apr 28, 2003, 06:30 AM No its not Rosenborg. I know what team it is because Rosenborg is compared to this team. Rosenborg has 11, this team has 13. It's quite hard to guess, i suggest you do some research.
MCdread Apr 28, 2003, 06:38 AM What? Is this currently or all-time? Because FC Porto has a record of 13 this season, but their record is 16 in 96/97.
Dell19 Apr 28, 2003, 07:32 AM Yeah lots of teams must have won more than 13 in a row as some leagues are seriously uncompetitive.
Vraslosken Apr 28, 2003, 09:46 AM damnit sorry. I meant League Championships. I meant overall victories. My English sucks. I am very sorry. I don't know what to call it. :(:(:(:(:(:(
MCdread Apr 28, 2003, 10:32 AM No problem. Celtic?
Suppersalmon Apr 28, 2003, 11:43 AM Liverpool
zenga Apr 28, 2003, 11:47 AM For League title wins in a row, Celtic and Rangers both have 9 and Rosenborg 11 (I think). I thought the record holder was Rosenborg and so don't have a clue! :crazyeye:
I have a feeling it may be a Middle Eastern team, or not..
What about a Saddam sponsored team in Iraq?
MCdread Apr 28, 2003, 12:12 PM I'll take your info regarding Celtic and Rangers. Dynamo Kyiv then?
Is it in Europe?
Vraslosken Apr 28, 2003, 02:29 PM It's middle east. It's enough if you guess the country
MCdread Apr 28, 2003, 03:28 PM Egipt? Al Ahly?

Darkness Apr 29, 2003, 10:34 AM Qatar?
Vraslosken Apr 29, 2003, 10:50 AM you are all wrong. And yes, it is soccer i am talking about. Keep guessing, guys, there are not so many countries left now:)

willemvanoranje May 01, 2003, 03:32 PM   crazy stuff
Dell19 May 02, 2003, 03:33 AM I was going to post a question but I couldn't think of one and then i forgot...
Which three teams, one from Spain, England and Italy were relegated after winning the top league in the last 13 years, but not neccessarily in the next season?
(Hopefully there will be nothing wrong the question :))
col May 02, 2003, 03:49 AM England is easy - Blackburn.
Spain and Italy are more difficult for me anyway. How about Napoli for Italy and I have no idea about Spain but will have a think.
Dell19 May 02, 2003, 03:51 AM Blackburn is correct but Napoli is wrong unless the question is wrong, I might check CM as to whether the question is correct :)
MCdread May 02, 2003, 03:51 AM Atletico Madrid, Blackburn, Sampdoria.
col May 02, 2003, 03:58 AM Sampdoria - yes - that sounds more plausible to me. Have Atheico been relegated?
Dell19 May 02, 2003, 03:58 AM OK I will state that it should be between 1991 and 2003
Dell19 May 02, 2003, 03:59 AM MCdread is correct :)
MCdread May 02, 2003, 05:11 AM I think Napoli won their last scudetto in 1990, so it wasin the last 13 years indeed.
@col: yes, they've spent two years in the 2nd division. I'm not sure if this is their first or second season after promotion.
Name all the clubs that have qualified to the final of all three major UEFA competitions (Champs, UEFA and Cup Winers Cup).
Hint: there are seven in total.
Darkness May 02, 2003, 06:38 AM I can think of only three:
Ajax
Barcelona
Juventus
I'll take a guess at the others:
Real Madrid
AC Milan
Bayern Munich
Liverpool
MCdread May 02, 2003, 06:45 AM Really close Darkness. :goodjob: You just have one wrong in your guesses.
MCdread May 02, 2003, 06:47 AM ... which is Milan btw.
