If so hopefully we can get this started :)

Games filled, we have one extra, so I am going to go with 4 humans and 2 AI.

Order is as follows.

Hobbes - Carthagians
Essex - Persians
Moondogie - Spanish
Flexmaster - Ottmans

I will create the game and send it out.

Sweet! I'm waiting anxiously :)

From my experience so far with PBEM games some things to be aware of.

Everyone should only load games from the opening game screen and should always finish there turn then use the save and exit popup. Doing anything else seems to lead to problems.

As well, the one rule in the other games I'm in is that you can't conduct negotiations through email etc. with other players until you have met there civ in the game. I like this rule but I'll leave it up to the majority to decide if they like it.

Good luck to all :)

And its on to Flexmaster
This is my first PBEM game. There was an option after I saved it to continue. Are we on the honor system not to do this? Cause it would seem you could try every possible movement between turns.

Edit for another question:
Should I keep the preferences as is, or can I change them?

Essex
Nov 16, 2002, 07:17 PM
Yes, we're on the honor system not to even TRY to cheat seeing as this game is still buggy as hell and it's easy to cheat even without trying.

As for preferences, I suppose we should all be free to change them as we like but I think we should all leave the "Press enter before ending turn" option on.

However, if we are all allowed to change the options be aware that you're pretty unlikely to get the game back with the options you set. :)

Are the preferences linked to the game or the player any one know? i.e. , if I turn on color blind help will it show up for everyone, or just me.

In regards to other things, gov's, auto workers, etc..., it's all your choice.

Essex
Nov 17, 2002, 10:10 AM
I'm about 90% sure that the preferences are linked to the game not the player.

However, 90% of statistics are made up ;)

Is this game still on??? I haven't had a turn in over 24 hours now.

Essex
Nov 17, 2002, 11:49 PM
ok, but it will make some horrible reading experiences for the lurkers.

LOL, they'll learn to avoid our PBEM threads.

Is it possible to edit the title of the thread to read turns of Friday night PBEM ?

It's almost 11 PM here and I'm off to bed but I'll send the game on first thing tomorrow morning if it arrives while I'm sleeping.

And it's on to moondogie. Nice turnover right now guys :)

It worked. Someone on another thread said the problem was that you have to quit all the way out when you are playing a PBEM game or you will have problems.

Excellent. Let's get this game going! I'm going into convulsions from not having had my turn in over 24 hours!!!

This reminds me of the classic cult move scene from "Reefer Madness".

"play faster, play faster...........................faster, play faster" and on and on. For thoes that haven't seen the antidrug 30's flick, this is what one charature was saying to the piano player with a crazed look on his face, after partaking of the evil herb. ;)

I have contracted a virus. Not sure where it came from but please be advised to take precautionary action. Scan your drives if you don't already do so.

Mine was the W32/Happy99.Trojan virus.

I don't know but would guess that a save file couldn't infect your system. Because it is not opened like a program, just read for data. But thanks for the heads up. Was past time to update and scan anyway.

My turn is played and passed on to moondoggi.

Hope we can cure the convulsions :)

Would everyone playing like to sit down at the computer this Friday night? From 7 to 11 PM EST??? Let me know if you are available.

Another thought, would anyone be intrested in a second game to run concurrently? We would keep the same turn order, and this way we could play two games each time. This will only work if everyone in the group concurs.

Essex

I can handle the 7 to 11, the concurrently however...

I'm already in 7 PBEM's and that's nearing my limit I think.

If everyone else wants to I'll do it though.

Can't do it this Friday. I've got some friends coming in this weekend and we'll be partying.

As far as another PBEM, I am currently participating in 2 and that's probably enough for me.

Your up Flex
edit for: quick turn flex. beat me to my post.

I was wondering if there is an ingame feature to save a screen picture. Just occured to me that I could be making my decisions before I even got my e-mail turn. I have a program already to do that. But it would be simpler if they had it in game. I looked in the hotkey lists but couldn't find it.

Also i believed we mentioned no diplomacy before contact. In the game you can't make agreements untill Writing. So do we hold off agreements untill both players have writing?

Flexmaster
Nov 21, 2002, 07:00 PM
Moondoggi, making friends with your neighbors already? My vote is to stick with the game rules. No formal agreements till writing is discovered by both civs trying to enter into an agreement.

Sent to Flex,
Excitement in the village. Got some information that a nearby tribe is having a party tonight. We will be sharpening our stones tonight for an early morning raid tommorow. Hope their women are cute, or at least strong. We have plenty of work for slaves.

Hobbes

Be careful on those villages, I wandered into one on a simple search for knowledge (or gold) and the locals got all upset.

I said in the annoucement to try and write something creative rather than constant 1-line posts. It's not just spammy, but it makes the PBEM games look dull to onlookers. Everyone should use a chat room to play a certain number of turns per session, and give the final end-session report in the thread. If you do have to use the forums, try including pictures, or say something about your civ. Make it creative, as if a traveler was wandering the land writing about each civ. Use the score meter in the game as a guide...

I am at a point were it don't take much time to do my turns. I think Hobbs suggested before a Quickstart or hot night to try and get a lot of turns done. Want to try Friday, or wednesday? Fri because of the name of this pbem, and I have found Wednesday to be a good time for gamers to get together.

It looks like Flexmaster is out :( he has other commitments, so we need someone to take his place. If anyone is intrested let me know.
