Units: (minor planets) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minor_planets:_1%E2%80%931000

So the first two units should be named Ceres and Pallas :)

Naval units: (spacecraft) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_artificial_satellites_and_space_probes
-Exception: first warship named Enterprise.
-Exception: first ship named Voyager.

Naval transports: (human spacecraft) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_human_spaceflights

Landmasses: (galaxies). Home island is named Sol. No suggestion as to what order to follow. Either way here's the list of named galaxies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_galaxies#List_of_named_galaxies. We could follow it (Andromeda would be right) or just pick one any time we discover a new landmass.

Thanks Caveman, Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta have all been dubbed their new names!

I think it will be really funny to see a worker named Hell Hound *heh*

Also I was wondering if we could mdofiy the city list names? Or at least add Cygnus in, I think it has a good sound for a city.

I added the exception for Cygnus, if nobody disagrees?

I guess this is gonna get pretty neat once we have a bunch of cities/units... :)

Looks good, thanks for compiling this all in one thread. :)

We could also use two more lists:
List of constellations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_constellations) for the peninsulas, and...

List of stars by constellation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stars_by_constellation) for the city names in each one of the corresponding peninsula.

What does the team think about it?

EDIT: There's also the List of constellations by area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_constellations_by_area), BTW.

I thought we were using Brightest Star list for city names that's in the first post.

Yeah, we can. It's not a big deal. I just thought about using more lists that would fit better into the theme.

The problem is that most stars only have a catalogue number. Only a few of them have been named, mostly since ancient times. That's why we're using the brightest stars, since they are the ones with real names (ie could be seen in ancient times with the unaided eye).

Well, we can go "Alpha And", "Beta And", "Gamma And", etc. And of course, we can always name a couple of cities extraordinairely based on their function.
Not as picturesque, but does get's into the theme. :)

I really don't want cities with Greek Numbers in them and we had already agreed NOT to name cities that give away their function.

I was refering naming some cities that would be extraordinaire with something like Andromeda's WASP-1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WASP-1), for example.

But like I said, it's not a big deal. Just something I thought it would be neat.

This idea has been discussed here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=358448) (starting post #16) already, and has been dismissed.
