View Full Version : K 6 - Diplomacy
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 16, 2002, 08:55 AM In this game there will only be one way to win - by UN!
level is monarch, friend set it up so I have NO idea what the map is like, how many opponents, how thought the barbs are.
edited rules:
Conscript = 4 HP, regular = 6, veteran = 8, elites = 11
no cities on Tundra, desert, jungle
more oomph for battelship
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 16, 2002, 08:59 AM will post full changes from civmod-bic here soon.

(14) 3350 BC - Warrios, escorst gooy hut settler. settler ordered.
(15) 3300 BC -

(17) 3200 BC - York founded, worker ordered.
(18) 3150 BC -
(19) 3100 BC -
(20) 3050 BC - 25 Gold

civ_steve Nov 17, 2002, 01:57 AM Looks like the Forums were down for about 12 hours. OK, I've got it, and I promise to play nice to any neighbors I encounter! (At least for now.)
civ_steve Nov 17, 2002, 02:06 AM Oops! I don't got it!! Killer, I can't find the K6-3000bc file in the Uploads directory.

Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 17, 2002, 06:31 AM akinkoo: welcome!
indeed, another screwup of the upload... we had trouble at K4, too....
now it is up!
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 17, 2002, 06:46 AM mod rules:
I based the game on my mod, which has the following changes:
- Ancient tech except Monarchy and Republic + ~1/3 cost.
- Max research time 50 turns.
- Hills can be irrigated
- Tundra gives no food
- Resources give more bonus (now it`s worth fighting for them even if they aren`t strategic)
- AI-AI trade is 100% on Regent, 110% on Monarch and so on.
- Bombard changed accordingly.
- 2 new cultural levels, 1 at 5:2, one at 3:2 so rate can be judged better.
- more Uumpfff for battleships (bombard now 1,5 times that of cruisers)
- age bonus (1 to 4 HP) for advanced units,
- better attack for nuke subs and subs,
- changed HP to conscript=4, regular=6, veteran=8, elite=11
- changed bombardment accorgingly,
- added bombardment for all bow-equipped units and all fast units with guns plus tank and Modern armour,
- added free units / town for Republic since now often Monarchy is preferable over Republic because of large Military.
- no towns in Tundra, Desert, Jungle
akinkhoo Nov 17, 2002, 08:30 AM let see if we can win by U.N.
This is going to be interesting :D
docceh Nov 17, 2002, 01:02 PM Henry, one suggestion for the bow units.
Give them bombard but with a range of 0. That way, they can't fire across a square but when you are attacked with a space bow unit in your stack, they will fire off shots and take down the HP of the attacker!! IMHO, its the most realistic and effective way to go about business:)
obviously too late for this one, but perhaps K7?? hehe

civ_steve Nov 17, 2002, 03:49 PM Alright!! Now I really do 'got it'. Welcome akinkhoo!!

:borg: :borg: :borg: :borg:
civ_steve Nov 17, 2002, 05:22 PM Well ... there's none on our small island! Here's the recap:
3000 BC, civ_steveI takes the throne ('er, stone heap?) Whoa - we appear to be island bound, by ourselves. If so, then maximum growth to fill the island seems to be a good idea. Change Settler build to Granary in London; put 10% to Luxuries to keep happiness in the meantime.
2950 BC, send scouts to unexplored corners (how sad to be a scout on a small island!)
2900 BC, ditto
2850 BC, York Builds Worker; set to build Warrior for garrison duty
2800 BC
2750 BC
2710 BC
2670 BC It's confirmed; we're island-bound and alone
2630 BC Granary completed in London, Settler started
2590 BC York completes Warrior, sent to London, starts another
2550 BC Barbarian comes over Mountain N. of York, Warrior recalled
2510 BC Barb now adj to York (over River); 2 Warriors fortified in York; 2nd Barb move in
2470 BC 1st Barb dies, 2nd moves up
2430 BC 2nd Barb dies, York builds Warrior, sent to London, starts another
2390 BC London builds Settler, starts another
2350 BC 3rd Barb approaches
2310 BC 3rd Barb dies; Scout sees another Barb coming
2270 BC, York builds Warrior, starts on Worker; Barb chases Scout
2230 BC, Nottingham founded, starts on Warrior.
2190 BC, Ack!! London loses 1 pop to Disease:( , Scout leads Barb around
2150 BC (pre-turn) Double Ack!! London is Diseased Again! Now only a Pop 3; (Change production to Temple to let pop grow to 4 first); York completes Worker and starts another
civ_steveI succumbs to disease and must release reins of power

Barbarian camp is somewhere West of Scout and Barbarian (so don't runaway to the 'left', go right).
Any comments on fighting disease at this point?
Writing comes in 8 turns. Good city locations are SW of Nottingham on coast, and NE of York in that group of Floodplains.
Sealman should be next.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 18, 2002, 02:50 AM sealman: you're up!
docceh: on deck (an quit complaining about my typos!;))
sealman Nov 18, 2002, 09:32 AM I'll grab when I get home. 2 SG turns to play tonight... hope there is a "Trading Spaces" marathon to keep the wife busy ;)
sealman Nov 18, 2002, 08:01 PM Only played 10 turns since I did not know how many we are allowed and I have little time tonight.
2150 BC:
2110 BC: see above
2070: Warrior sets out from Nottingham to secure city site.
1990: repeat of 2150
1950: look up
1910: Warrior sets out from Nottinham to hunt for Barbarians. Barbarians attack our warrior, and learns the meaning of being clubed.
1870: Learned the secrets of Writing. Know trying to comprehend these things that we got from our local AAA office. Oh year, a Barbarian is wasted outside of London.
1830: The people of London riot over the killing of the Barbarian  Must be because our warrior left the city. He returns and order shall be restored.
1790: London completes Temple.
1750: Another warrior sets out from Nottingham.
___
2 settlers are being build at the moment. Warriors are being shuffled out of Nottingham quickly to set up the city locations for settlers. place then where you want. There is a barb camp somewhere since we defeated two during my turn. Not sure where.
Here is the game (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/K6-2150bc.zip)
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 19, 2002, 03:05 AM docceh: your first 20!
akinkhoo Nov 19, 2002, 07:28 AM erm... i need to build a logging program....
:scan:
Gothmog Nov 19, 2002, 08:45 AM Hey, dedicated lurker here at the moment (no time to play due to RL constraints). I just wanted to comment - I think disease always comes in pairs (e.g. you always lose pop on two consecutive turns).
docceh Nov 19, 2002, 10:52 AM Sorry guys but I've got badminton training tonight, then working the early shift tomorrow. I'll TRY finish now but if I don't it'll be around 3pm GMT tomorrow!!
This RL business is one pain in the ass!
docceh Nov 19, 2002, 12:11 PM ok i managed people!! :D
1. Scout Movement - On "barb watch".
2. Worker's Working
3. Nottingham Warrior -> Granary
4. Boring...
5.
6. London into Riot! York on Settler production.
7. More barb womping... we discover Writing, next up Mapmaking so we have a hope of getting outta here!
8. Blah...
9. Barb womping at Nottingham, London Temple > Settler.
10. Lots of nothing...
11.
12.
13.
14.
15.
16.
17. Barb killing. Worker stuff.
18. London Settler > Warrior, York Settler > Granary.
19. Settlers (with guards) going to suitable city sites. I'll leave it here for the next blokey...
As I said there are 2 Settlers on GoTo commands, London has expanded so we have incense in it's borders which needs to be connected. Rock on!

Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 19, 2002, 02:16 PM docceh: you discovered writing on your 7th, so did sealman....
you did grab the wrong .sav......
want to try again?
sealman Nov 19, 2002, 03:53 PM i say just go with what docceh did, his first 10 turns appear similar to mine and at this stage, not much variations.
That and he probably made better use of the workers. ;)

Thanks for the input, Gothmog! I hope we don't get another chance to verify it! (I seem to recall one time when I lost 2 pops, then went a few turns, then lost a 3rd pop, in another game. It made me wonder if the population level is part of the equation.)
sealman/docceh: sealman's save links to MY 2150 BC game. No wonder it was deja vu!

that all depends... Killer: did you mod the commerce benefit for roads in deserts? If there is no bonus, you can't build the road.

civ_steve Nov 20, 2002, 03:49 PM That would be a shame, not being able to build roads in deserts!

Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 23, 2002, 07:22 AM preturn:
Nottingham to settler - I want the island filled quickly. York stays on Temple since it would waste shields to switch, alos, want *some* culture in case we get off the island onto populated terrain.
(1) 1125 BC - settler goes to river site in the north - want high producer for ships.
(2) 1100 BC - Coventry Warrior --> settler. Goes to London as 2nd MP force.
(3) 1075 BC - Bronze working, literature in 12 @ -1. London can then go for GreatLib. London has grown, now 1 entertainer until MP arrives. order mine and road on hill near London for increased production and access south.
(4) 1050 BC - York Temple --> Settler. Canterbury revolts, entertainer. Newcastle builds warrior - to Canterbury as MP. another ordered.
(5) 1025 BC - entertainer in London sent to the hills to work there as MP has now arrived.
(6) 1000 BC
(7) 975 BC - Oxford founded. Twmple oredered.
(8) 950 BC - Hastings to settler at loss of 0 shield but will loose next turn production.
(9) 925 BC - newcastle Warrior --> Galley. Stays as MP. Hastings settler --> worker. Deciding where to send the settler is a bit difficult. I'll send him south and let the site north of London open for the moment. 10% lux now to keep London happy (we will really need Great Lib!). 1 more turn for lit (6 instead of 5) will give us +1 Gold instead of -4: so ordered. Warwick to setttler, completed next turn at no shield loss.
(10) 900 BC - settlers from Warwick, Nottingham, Coventry. Ordered: worker, Harbor, Temple. All settlers ordered to London, the one from Warwick via north coast so have him handy there and avoid barbs.
(11) 875 BC - barbs from sotuh of London. York settler --> Spearman. Entertainer in london to cover for Warrior leaving to protect worker mining hill in the south. Warrior from York sent to london.
(12) 850 BC - Canterbury Temple --> settler. We then will have 5 settlers - all can be placed on our island. Up science to get literature in 2 again.
(13) 825 BC - Worker in Hastings --> Temple. beijing completes Pyramids  luckily, we will get Lit next turn and production in London will auto-switch to Great Lib.
(14) 800 BC - Literature found, science to minimum and iron working. have to remove worker and move warrior to mountain as there are 1 barb warrior and 1 barb horsie :(
(16) 775 BC - Warrior survives and gets promoted. several settlers head out from london. 20% Lux for London.
(17) 750 BC - Spear from York sent to London, Warrior ordered who will conincide with growth.
(18) 730 BC -
(19) 710 BC - Liverpool founded. Library ordered in York
(20) 690 BC - settler from Canterbury goes to meet Galley from Newcastle. Barb Horsie sighted in the south. he might try to get around our warrior at the settlers - use them as bait ;)
I didn't check production as the next player will go through all towns anyways ;)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/diplo-690bc.SAV
civ_steve Nov 23, 2002, 11:11 AM I'd say I've got it, but your '.SAV' file didn't make it through the civfanatics dataset check!
Killer, you'll have to Upload your file again, with a '.sav' extension.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 23, 2002, 11:42 AM puch, that should have been fixed a long time agon... after all, Civ saves as SAV by default...
OK, http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/diplo-690bc.zip :D
civ_steve Nov 23, 2002, 04:40 PM I agree! The first time I was uploading a K4 save file, it took 4 tries, before I figured out that .SAV isn't accepted. It'd be nice if it warned you that it couldn't take the file, rather than saying "Upload Successful".
OK, I've got it! Will finish some time this weekend.
civ_steve Nov 24, 2002, 03:55 PM 690 BC, civ_steveII takes the throne ('er, stone heap?); priorities - get luxuries connected, explore, build; make more workers, and units to defend them from barbarians
670 BC, 1 Worker 1Spearman built, Hastings set to Barracks
650 BC, Warrior in Mountains defeats (barely) Barb Horseman; Coventry completes Barracks, set on Spearman; Warwick connected;
630 BC, 2 Workers built, Warrior to defend Liverpool, now set to build harbor; Dover and Brighton founded in Hill zone
610 BC, Forbidden Palace in now an option; York builds worker, set to Settler; Norwich founded in Hill zone

570 BC, Canterbury builds worker; Oxford builds Granary, set to Temple; Spearman/Warrior combo sees barb camp in Southern Peninsula
550 BC, Nottingham builds Temple, set to Settler; Coventry builds Spear, set to Worker; Newcastle - Worker, set to Temple; Warwick - Worker, set to Worker;

510 BC, Canterbury - Worker, set to Galley
490 BC, York - Settler, continues with another
470 BC, Hastings - Barracks, start on Spearman
450 BC, Warwick -Worker, set to Temple
430 BC, Nottingham - Settler, set to Library, Coventry - Spearman; Reading founded near central Floodplains, set to Granary
410 BC, Birmingham founded in Hill Zone, building Harbor
390 BC, civ_steveII retires to country estate in Hill Zone.
civ_steve Nov 24, 2002, 04:05 PM Save game:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/K6-0390bc.sav
You know what? I forgot about being able to irrigate hills! I might not have built cities so close together in Hill country if I'd remembered. Oh well. They need Defenders, so ship Spearmen there as they are available.
I'd suggest that we use the Galley being built in Canterbury to ship some Workers over to the Spice peninsula. An additional city or two can be built there eventually, and once the Jungle is cleared, they should be able to grow well.
sealman Nov 24, 2002, 09:53 PM I got the game and will try to play tomorrow.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Nov 25, 2002, 03:14 AM nice playin'... get that city I founded in the north up to production and growth fast so we can build the Lighthouse there!

I don't think my wonder splash screens are working properly (could have something to do with the dyp mod??) Anyway, whoever is next, I'll swap with you and play a series that has no wonders due. Just to avoid more screaming at the computer.

sealman Dec 04, 2002, 09:10 PM sorry a bit late, was only able to play 2 turns until my game crashed because of wonder pop-up problem, most likley due to the dyp mod I have installed.
If someone could download this save (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/k6temp.zip) and hit enter and then repost at the start of the next turn, I can finish me set, unless the next player wants to go in which case I will summarize my turns as such:
learned Iron Working - begin on Warriror Code
Riots in London, raise entertainment rate to compensate, micor-managed the city building great lighthouse to get wonder in 5 more turns, WATCH OUT FOR UNHAPPINESS RIOTS THERE.
Just let me know what you want me to do.

docceh Dec 08, 2002, 01:35 PM 1. Inherited Turn
2. Finish Warrior Code, start The Wheel
3. Norwich Library > Spearman. Our Galley makes a dangerous jouney over the ocean and finds new lands!
4. Make contact with chinese, get their WM for our WM and 100 gp. They have quite a tech lead on us ! :|
5. Contact with Babs, they are much smaller than chinese. Trade our WM, Literature and 140gp for Their WM, The Wheel, Math and Mysticism.
6. Get horseback from Great Library, start on Philosophy. Establish embassies.
7. WOAH!! The Babs and Chinese are at War! This is good news for us! Time to up our science budget a bit.. Philosphy in 5 turns.
8. Nothing important happened today.
9. Or today.
10. Philosophy completed, on with currency. Sign ROP with Babylon and China to keep good relations.
11.
12. China and Babylon sign peace treaty. OH NO!! XinJian has just completed the Great Lighthouse! The Buggers! Swith production to Palace for now.
13. Found new island to south, galley might not make it into coast in time however.
14. Our galley makes it to the south island!
15.
16.
17.
18. Discovered 2 large islands in the south, so far they seem uninhabited.
19.
20. End
Oxford is 17 turns from building a palace, if we don't get a wonder tech by then, buy one from the chinese! We REALLY got screwed with this starting location. We might consider building some troops so the AI doesn't view us as an easy target.

sealman Dec 23, 2002, 11:29 AM I am up in Connecticut for Christmas and my lovely blonde, polish sister (3 strikes right there) left her CIV 3 disk at college so I can't take my turns when they come up:( and that means that I am going to have to spend even more time with my family and in-laws than expected
ON top of that, I wont be able to play PTW since she left that at college too.
I'll be back in town and with my own pc on the 30th. Till then, skip me.

civ_steve Jan 02, 2003, 05:44 PM I'm back in. This has been a very busy holiday season; and with having a very sick 2 year old, civving was not at the top of my list!
Once Killer submits, I'm ready.
