I want to make a custom civ in my mod, and I've done it before, but the game always crashes when I decide to play as them. What's the problem?

If you want help, you need to be more precise.

What are you doing exactly, and more importantly, what do you mean by "game crash"? Any error message?

Maybe you have added one Civ and now you have 32 (+Barbarians=33) Civs in your game. With Barbs we can have only 31 Civs. So alter an existing one or delete one Civ is needed to add one Civ.

What I am trying to say is, I want to know how to make a new civilization in Civ3Edit that can be played without the game crashing. By the way General 666, i deleted Egypt to make my civilization, the 1337 n00b5, but it crashed anyway. I don't get it.

Editing only the biq is not enough. You have to alter the PediaIcons.txt too.;)

Generally it is better to alter one existing Civ rather than deleting it and add a brand new one. Doing so allows you to use the old entries.
It will help you a lot to keep the "RACE_EGYPTIANS" linking for your new Civ. So you just have to c&p your new graphics (the filenames) used into the same entries for the Egypts.

Here is a tutorial (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=35778) on adding new civs. It includes more information than entirely necessary - you don't need to edit the diplomacy screen images, for example, if you don't mind seeing question marks instead of leaderheads there - but it appears to contain everything you need and more. Most of it should still apply to vanilla. The link in that thread to a Vanilla-specific version is likely a bit out of date for fully-patched vanilla (I don't think you need the hacked editor anymore), but is also a bit simpler - take a look at both, and you'll get where you need to be.

Also, the deletion of civ can give plenty of errors with the normal editor. Like if you have a map with cities, the owners of the cities will change when you delete a civ.

If you have conquest, you can use my editor. It corrects these issues.

Also, you may encounter crashes and problems if you Custom Player Data set to On and the map is an Random Map and not a Scenario (with preplaced civs and cities, etc). At least, I have encountered such problems.

I seem to encounter crashes whenever I do anything involving modifications to the base game, so you're not alone!

CivIII forte is not error handling... There a lot of stupid little things that can make the game crash.

However, if you work with the proper metholody and don't rush things, you can do a lot without crash.
