View Full Version : New PBEM game - All humans
Quillan Nov 17, 2002, 01:29 PM Hey, lets start a new PBEM game.
I figure maybe 5 people, no AI's. Hopefully it won't take too long to run the thing back and forth... maybe we can pick a day to send it back and forth for a few hours straight to get things going, then go to a more normal schedule.
So, EMAIL me :
Name you use
Civ you prefer
When you will probably play your turns
Also, what country you want to represent... (if you're renamed for example, Canada!) And, lastly, which preferences and options you'd like, we can go by majority for most things.
Looking for happy, relaxed players.
Essex Nov 17, 2002, 02:14 PM Hiya,
email: jamescorkin@yahoo.com
Civ preferences: 1) Perisans 2) Carthagians 3) Ottomans
I check my email all the time so I can play any time pretty much.
I think small maps are best (not tiny) and I'm happy with any other options you want.
Hobbes Nov 17, 2002, 03:46 PM Sign me up.
email gkiselis@peoplepc.com
Greg
Civ's : Celts, Carthagians, Jap's
Nights and weekends.
Tiamat Nov 17, 2002, 03:59 PM I am also interested on playing as well.
email: tiamatciv@shaw.ca
Civ Preferences: Vikings, Celts, Japanese
I work from home, so I am available pretty much anytime.
Quillan Nov 17, 2002, 04:54 PM Alright we need one more person and i will start it up. If everyone is available tonight we can maybe run a few turns, otherwise we'll try to get a couple hours soon to dedicate to the early going!
Here is the situation so far:
Player One: Essex
- Persia
Player Two: Hobbes
- Celts
Player Three: Tiamat
- Scandinavia (vikings)
Player Four: Quillan
- India
Player Five: Open
5 Players, 0 AI, Small, Archipelago, Warm, Wet, 4 Billion.
RULES:
No contact (trading information etc) with other civs until you've actually discovered them. No reloading. You must be able to play at LEAST one turn a day, especially at the beginning when they are quick. If you are high strung, please don't fill the last spot!
Post here, or email qnagel@yahoo.com to get the last spot, or with any questions / comments.

Yup, when you send me the rest of the info so i can pick my civ :), pls don't post back in this thread about your game though, email me.
Thanks
stalin006 Nov 17, 2002, 05:08 PM oh........well it is random civs :( check ur PM and the thread...sorry.
well back to ur thread topic
Quillan Nov 17, 2002, 05:43 PM Ok, i've started with the 4 of us, please check your email, good luck, we'll chat more soon
Essex Nov 17, 2002, 06:17 PM Shall we use this thread for turn tracking for this game?
After a slightly rocky start, the game has come to me and been sent on to Hobbes.
Good Luck All.
Quillan Nov 17, 2002, 06:19 PM Sure we can use the thread, but i am hoping with just 4 it won't be necessary. Everyone seems to be available at night, so we should be able to run a few turns, just do it and pass it along as soon as you're able :)
good luck all
donsig Nov 17, 2002, 06:29 PM Did you start already? I can play nights!

Sorry, i was eager to get the game going, if there is a drop out or something i will contact you. Hopefully we can play another time!
Hobbes Nov 17, 2002, 09:12 PM I just sent the game on a little while ago. I did not know that we would be starting so soon.
Any info on the game??
Looks like we are playing regicide.

I thought we'd get it going ASAP, the people who replied seemed able to play frequently! Yes, regicide, all victory except diplomatic, standard world (i was going to do small, but misclicked), archipelago, 80% h20, warm, wet, 4 bil... Regicide because i like having a king, and to counterbalance the emperor difficulty (a mil unit for happiness).
Thats all off the top of my head, any other questions? Hopefully tiamat will be on the ball and i'll get the game back soon. If so, i'll do my next turn early on monday morning (EST).
Hobbes Nov 18, 2002, 05:12 AM If all members of the group are up for it, how if we designate a night where we will all be at our computers for a few hours?

Sure, i'm good either tonight (mon) or tomorrow (tue). I just got the game back and will send it back to essex ASAP.
Quillan Nov 18, 2002, 06:48 AM Everyone please remember, end your turn, THEN save and exit. Then send that file along.
Thanks
Essex Nov 18, 2002, 10:59 AM Hmm it's been over 3 hours since you posted Quillan and I don't have the game yet. Couldn't find the enter key? ;)
I'm just posting this in case you DID send it, because if you did its lost in the electronic wasteland somewhere.
As for nights, I'm pretty much free between 5PM and 10PM PST every night except Wednesday.

Here it is, the first time i got it from tiamat it was on him still. No matter, i've sent you turn 2.
GL.

Ahh, that explains the nice save and exit reminder in the previous post.
/me slaps Tiamat upside the head :D
Quillan Nov 18, 2002, 09:13 PM It is 11pm EST and the game hasn't cycled back to me, who ever has it please play it! Maybe we need to get a schedule made up of when people will be able to play, i was under the understanding that evenings were good for everyone.
Essex Nov 18, 2002, 09:17 PM It's probably stuck on tiamat. I've seen Hobbes around the board tonight and I sent it to him a while ago so I'm sure he's taken his turn just hasn't posted it yet.
Just noticed that I hadn't posted my turn.
Hobbes you did get the game earlier today right?
Tiamat Nov 19, 2002, 12:10 AM Hobbes sent it to me, but when I open it, it gives me the Celts, and I can't get to my Civ. I e-mailed him back to ask him to resave his turn and re-send it, but I haven't received anything yet.
Hobbes Nov 19, 2002, 04:44 AM Sorry guys, I will resend it latter this afternoon.
Quillan Nov 19, 2002, 06:09 AM Alright, hopefully we can iron these types of bugs out fairly quickly. Just remember to END YOUR TURN, then the game will ask you to save and exit and then send it along... that should do it :). I'll be home until mid afternoon, then during the evening, so hopefully we can get a couple of turns in today.
Tiamat Nov 19, 2002, 02:58 PM OK. Hobbes resent it to me and this time it worked. Seems like it was the same problem as what happened with my first turn file which I sent to Quillian. Anyway, played my turn and sent it to Quillian.
Quillan Nov 19, 2002, 06:26 PM played and passed to essex.
Essex Nov 19, 2002, 07:22 PM Well I got an email from you, but no sav file :(
OK, got the file that time, played and passed on to Hobbes.
Tiamat Nov 20, 2002, 02:12 PM OK I had the same problem with the save file for Turn 3 as the last turn, which I think was the same one Quillian had after my first turn, but I think I figured out what is causing it.
If you are already playing a game, you can't just load the PBEM save. You have to exit PTW, start it again and load the PBEM save without loading any other save first. I tried numerous combinations, and the only time that it works correctly for me is in this manner. If I try to load the save after loading/playing another save/game first, I always get Persia (Essex) waiting for end turn, then the Celts (Hobbes) come up. If I restart PTW and then load the PBEM first, it gives me the Celts start message, but then asks for my password as it should.
Essex Nov 20, 2002, 09:57 PM Turn 4 has been played and passed on.
Essex Nov 21, 2002, 07:02 PM Turn 5 has apparently gone all the way round and is back to Hobbes.
As has turn 6.
Ditto for turn 7.
And turn 8 has come and gone.

This is going fairly well, turn 9 is on the go. Lets see if we can get a few turns done today (saturday)!
Good luck all, hopefully we'll meet soon and then we can conspire
Essex Nov 23, 2002, 09:54 AM Turn 9 has come to me and been passed on
As has turn 10
If i get it back before 11:30 I'll take my next turn immediately, otherwise I'm out until about 2 PM Pacific.
Tiamat Nov 23, 2002, 12:03 PM I am just on my way out for a few hours. I should be back around 1 PM PST. Turn 10 hasn't reached me yet. so I will have to play it when I get back.
Quillan Nov 23, 2002, 04:24 PM Turn 11 is now making the rounds, hopefully we'll meet up soon!
Essex Nov 23, 2002, 04:33 PM Turn 11 has reached me and passed on.
My civilizations wise men are concerned by the sight of water in almost every direction.
Persians were not meant to be confined to an island.
Quillan Nov 23, 2002, 04:41 PM Ha, i'm sure the vikings are pleased.
Hobbes Nov 23, 2002, 04:51 PM 11 is making the rounds.
Tiamat Nov 23, 2002, 05:35 PM Turn 11 completed.
Essex Nov 25, 2002, 04:11 PM Strange thing with turn 13, I thought I had taken my turn and passed it on normally but when Hobbes got it, turn was still on me. I reloaded the sav and sure enough it was my turn. I took it and before passing on tried it and it opened at Hobbes civ so I think everythings ok and i guess i was just dilusional when I thought I took my turn the first time.
Anyway, turn 13 passed on.
Quillan Nov 25, 2002, 05:06 PM Things are bound to happen from time to time, lets try to get at least a turn done a day though! I'm around most evenings and play my turns as soon as i know i have them, and IIRC everyone else was around in the evening.
GLA --- soon we will meet and negotiations will ensue... (we need a borg mod!)
Essex Nov 25, 2002, 09:56 PM Turn 14 has come to me and been passed on.

Has anyone met yet?
Quillan Nov 26, 2002, 08:48 AM Nope, no meeting for me yet. I've found the mongols in stalin's game though... I tell ya, i'm chomping at the bit to get some turns done! PBEM is a little slow for my liking.... i think when MP is fixed i'll try to get a few guys to play maybe an hour an evening or something along those lines, no marathons, just consistancy.
Essex Nov 26, 2002, 02:40 PM I agree, wish I could play a little more. I'm in 6 PBEM's that run between 1 and 3 turns a day each though. I'll probably have plenty to do around 1000 AD :)
Seeing as I'm stuck on a 56k it may be a long time before I can do any MP except PBEM so I guess I have to get used to it.
Oh, and I've seen the romans in stalin's game but havent made contact yet. Nothing here or in any of my other PBEM's though.
Turn 15 played and passed on.
Hobbes Nov 27, 2002, 05:12 AM Is everyone going to load the patch?
Quillan Nov 27, 2002, 08:39 AM already did, i played some MP last night... if anyone wants to play a game in the evenings, let me know via email.
Tiamat Nov 27, 2002, 01:03 PM I have installed the patch as well.
Essex Nov 28, 2002, 03:52 PM Turn 17 has come to me and been passed on.
Tiamat Nov 28, 2002, 09:41 PM Still waiting for turn 17. Does anyone know if Hobbes has been around today?
Hobbes Nov 30, 2002, 07:29 AM I have not got turn 17, could you resend it to me.
Essex Nov 30, 2002, 11:36 AM OK, had a glitch there but turn 17 has been passed on now.
Turn 18 has also come to me and been passed on.
Ditto for turn 19.
Tiamat Dec 29, 2002, 01:47 PM Has this game died? I haven't received a new turn in 11 days.
Quillan Dec 30, 2002, 08:14 AM I don't know, this PBEM doesn't seem to last, all my games have gone by the wayside, and not just over xmas...
take care, see you in the real mp game.
Quillan
