View Full Version : PTW: Warlords of North America
Ed O'War Nov 17, 2002, 03:39 PM Edit: BTW, you need to have the Play the World expansion to play this scenario.
Background:
Date: January, 2010
In the aftermath of the Eastern War, the central government of the United States collapsed. Local and state governments attempted to fill the void, but they too were soon overwhelmed by the rising tide of chaos. Canada and Mexico's governments collapsed right behind them. Soon gangs and aspiring warlords rose up to fill the vacuum, claiming entire cities as their personnel fiefdoms. It wasn't long before the warlords began to fight amongst themselves, scrabbling to control the few remaining resources to establish their legacy.
Instructions:
1) Unzip Warlords of North America Zip to your desktop
2) Copy Warlords of North America.bix to your Civilization III/ CIV3PTW/Scenarios folder
3) Copy the Warlords of North America folder to your Civilization III/ CIV3PTW/Scenarios folder
4) Start Play the World, select scenarios and then select Warlords of North America
Credits:
- RangerOne134's North America Map
- BlueO's Railroads
- Technical unit by Hunter
- Ammo, Munitions and Medicine resource icons obtained from Soldiers-of-Anarchy (a great game)
- Other resource icons mixed and matched from various sources available at Civfanatics. Unfortunately I can't track down which icons belong to whom

Ed O'War Nov 17, 2002, 03:43 PM Here's the readme, for those who would like to read more about the changes I made before downloading the scenario:

LuckyOrDead Nov 17, 2002, 06:49 PM I really like both the storyline and gameplay :goodjob:
It looks like you spent the time to make your own units :goodjob:
I would give your scenario an 8 out of 10 :D
Your scenario is far better than any of the ones that came with PTW. (Their scenarios made me sick :vomit: )
Make more scenarios PLEASE
Ed O'War Nov 17, 2002, 06:56 PM Thanks for the comments. I made up new types of units, but I'd like to clarify that I didn't do any of the graphics for them.
The links in my sig connect to some of my other scenarios for older versions of Civ 3, if you would like to check those out. I will definitely be working on additional scenarios.
Thanks for the high rating, I hope you enjoy(ed) it.
PriestOfDiscord Nov 17, 2002, 07:39 PM As someone who loves the Fallout RPG series(just look at my custom title :D) I would love to play this scenario. This looks like it has that kind of feel to it. Hopefully you add more goodies like custom techs, city improvments, and units as time goes on. When I finally get PTW sometime in the near future, I'll love to get my hands on this. Keep up the good work!
Azale Nov 17, 2002, 08:26 PM Awesome. Downloading now. I had an idea like this, but slightly diffrent. Do you mind if I use some of these units?

Thanks. I love the Fallout games too. This is intended as a quasi-post-apocalyptic scenario, so it's not quite the blasted wasteland that Fallout is. I don't think I'll add anything new to this particular scenario. However, as I really like post-apocalyptic stuff, I will probably do other post-apocalyptic scenarios that use custom techs, improvements, wonders, units, etc.

You're welcome to use the names and stats for the units I came up with. However, I didn't make any of the graphics for them. Most of the "new" unit graphics came from the Play the World WWII unit set. I also used Hunter's Technical Rebel Combat Truck.
Azale Nov 19, 2002, 06:23 AM Okay, fine with me.:D
PriestOfDiscord Nov 20, 2002, 01:36 AM Ahhh, that's good news then. I can't wait to see more scenarios in this vein.
LuckyOrDead Nov 22, 2002, 11:57 AM It is not a big bug, and it is most likely unfixable. :(
If you try to bomb LA on the west cost, and they have intercepters. LA is on the edge of the map and there is no were for the intercepters to start (I.E. the game locks up).
This is not really a big deal, because I was able to take the city with just ground units. But for the first three times that the game locked up I could not figure out why. :D
Overall I still love the scenario :king: :goodjob:

That's good to know. You're probably right, it sounds like it's more of a bug with Flat Maps in general, so I probably can't fix it. However, I will keep it in mind for future scenarios that use flat maps. Thanks for the heads up, and I'm glad you like the scenario. :)
Lynx Nov 29, 2002, 05:36 PM this looks good, unfortunately i dont play scenarios with edited units, sorry!
sprnv8 Nov 30, 2002, 01:23 PM I liked it:)

bhiita Dec 26, 2002, 04:14 AM What's wrong with the reavers:confused: After this happens (see last post) and I try to exit out it freezes my computer:saiyan: and I have have to ..........:cringe: push the button It doesn't seem to misbehave for anyone else. Have the reavers been tested? Or is this the first sign that little man has moved back into my tower :ar15: :borg:
Ed O'War Dec 26, 2002, 11:08 AM Hmmm, I will double check the Reavers. Everything should work fine, but I suppose it's possible I missed something. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'll post what I find out later today after work.

No,no......no inconvenience. It could be something on my side.
I'll play it soon enough and I'm getting a new computer in a few months anyway:)
It looks really good from the editor, I'll try another civ later;)
Ed O'War Dec 26, 2002, 07:16 PM Well, I started up the scenario playing with the Reavers and it worked fine for me. Below is an in-game screenshot from when I first started as the Reavers. I assume you have PTW and are using the latest patch. Did you make any changes to the scenario when you looked at it in the editor? Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause your game to crash like that. Please let me know if you are still having problems.

Adding a few units shouldn't have caused a defeat for the Reavers at the beginning of the game. Maybe you accidently changed something in the scenario settings. You may want to compare the modified bix with the original one that came with the scenario to see if anything is different.
When you add units remember to add the ANIME_PRTO(sp?) line to PediaIcons, too. Otherwise that can cause the game to crash.
Well, I hope this helps you out. :)
Yoda Power Dec 27, 2002, 10:39 AM How did you come up with all the names? What does they represent?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Many of the Civ names are recycled from an earlier post-apocalyptic scenario I did called The Warlord. Other Civ names I got from real life (such as the FEMA civ) and still others came from scenarios that I've worked on that I never got around to finishing. They don't represent anything in particular, though some of them are inspired by other games (for example, the Reavers came from Fallout Tactics). :)
Al Zan Aug 15, 2003, 08:48 PM good job!
Ed O'War Aug 15, 2003, 09:03 PM Thanks. Hope you enjoy the scenario.
Al Zan Aug 17, 2003, 11:45 AM hey,do you the map without the city?
Ed O'War Aug 17, 2003, 01:41 PM Sorry I don't have a version of the map without cities. I used RangerOne's North American map, which should be in the map forum, so you can probably find it in there. Hope this helps. :)
EQandcivfanatic Dec 27, 2003, 01:42 PM This is my favorite scenario to play over and over. However, could you do another version with Conquest graphics and concepts like craters and such and more factions? That would make this almost perfect scenario even better.

I'm glad you like the scenario so much. At the moment most of my free time is being sucked up by Star Wars Galaxies. Also, generally speaking, I don't like to redo scenarios; I like to spend my time working on new projects. However, if you wanted to do an updated version using Conquests and the new graphics and units and such, please feel free to do so. All I ask is that you give credit where credit is due. :)
