Okay, ever since I read about BB's cultural victory in GOTM VI, I've been focused on getting my first cultural win. Thanks, BB. Its not like I have other things that need to get done! ;)

Now, I set up a regent level game as the Egyptians and found myself on a decent size island-continent all alone. Purposely, I built temples first in every settlement and other cultural producing structures ASAP. Several GWs have been built including the Oracle, Sistine Chapel, and Bach's Cathedral among others. I've ventured off my island continent only once to secure an ivory rich city from the Germans, who immediately signed a peace deal. Babylon declared war on me which was uneventful due to their location in the world. My histograph score ranks third or fourth, but I'm not worried about this. I've had one Roman city, on the main continent, flip to me. :) And, I have the tech lead thanks to the ToE.

Yet, I'm still wondering if I'm going to make it to a cultural victory. Here are some stats as of 1786 AD:

(1) total cultural points --- 28,225
(2) Thebes cultural rating --- 52
(3) Thebes cultural points --- 8,226

What do you think? How can I calculate a cultural victory?

I don't know how the numbers work, but I do know that in my cultural victory (100k), I came on strong at the end. You may want to go on a conquering spree, and build cultural buildings in your new cites pronto.

Have you checked out the strategy guide in the War Academy on Culture Rushing?

Yea, by it I'm doomed to fail. I have about 12 cities. I guess I need to launch an offensive, as Txurce suggested, and rush-build temples & libraries.

I've only ever won cultural victories (and two diplomatic ones) so far... :) I must be being too nice !

To get a chance of achieveing 100k Culture points.... build libraries & temples before AD 1, Great Library is a MUST (before AD 1 again if you can), plus the Sistine Chapel and J.S. Bach's Cathedral are vital... I always bank on having at approx. 20 cities before AD1... and at least 30-35 by 1000AD... this is up to and including Regent level....

I'm working on my first military victory !!

Funny, I've only been able to win cultural victories, and a single diplomatic. I'm still gunning for the Spaceshp victory!!

My first victory was diplomatic. I built the UN, immediately held elections for General Secretary, and lo and behold, I won.

Next time, not so lucky, the Aztecs won.

Other than that, it's been nothing but cultural victories... a reall pain in the patuckus when I was in the middle of trying to win the space race.

Interesting.

My victory have been mostly by domination or space race. UN only once, and have not done cultural or conquest.
I will try to win by culture soon, as dojoboy is doing.

How you can get cultural victory so often?¿

Same here Pigumon. I've a couple UN victories and one conquest, just to do it. But, I've yet to earn a cultural victory --- definitely my aim now.

Well, I guess I failed to set myself up correctly for a culture win. Do I have any chance: 100k or 20k?

I think you'll make it. Just keep spreading and building everything cultural that you can, and check your score every five or ten years. Your growth is somewhat exponential, so figure you're doing a little better than what you can project.

Hey dojoboy... just hang in there, and when you discover the 'Computers' advance you'll get the automatic 'Mac User x4 Culture Bonus' in the early 1990s.... ;)

Well, I lost the battle but won the war. I launched my s/s becasueChina & Babylon were near launchin g their s/s. I had nukes and transports off the coast of their capitals, but I didn't really want to go there, for a "cultural" victory. Uh, the two (Culture & Nuclear War just don't seem to hand in hand). My capital was at around 16,000 while my civ's rating was 65,000. I was going to have to milk it to 2050 while warring.

I'm going to strat a new game as the Babs and get as many cities as I can early while building culture.

I did it!! :D
I just achieved first cultural victory. To concentrate to culture, I used Babylonian (easy way) with standard map setting on Monarch level. The shape of map looked like "talking camel and bear".;)

I was one of 4 civs sharing one continent. In Initial expansion, I got 15 cities and built temples and libraries.
310BC I was defeated in TGL race and built HG instead.
440AD Persia declared war on me, when I started making knights. I got allied with Zulu which located on the way to Persian territory. But Zulu was weak and lost a couple of cities, which I picked up to make sequential territory.
This war ended in 1110AD when I conquered all Persian city in my continent.
Since I built libraries and universities everywhere, I could lead in techs in late Middle Age.
I built SC (570AD), LW (750AD), JSB (760AD), Smith's TC (980AD), Shakes (1200AD), Newton (1260AD), TOE (1410AD), HD (1415AD), Universal Suffrage (1470AD), SETI (1645AD), COC (1690AD), UN (1695AD), and Longevity (1725AD).
Later, Zulu and Germany, survived on my continent, declared war on me. With tanks and MA&MI, I destroyed them.
I finished in 1762AD with 100K culture.

Top3 cities were mine but even top1 Babylon had only 9805 culture point.

Next I will try 20K victory.

Good job, Pigumon! I'm envious! ;) I'll start my "crusade" upon returning home for the holiday break.
