Ferried in a few reinforcement units. Typical stuff... Shld have 11 swords and 4 spears to operate around that southernmost city next turn.

The Aztec War

After the third or fourth attempt to smite the Aztec capital, we finally gave up after suffering horrendous losses (up to 6-7 swords) in the last attack (that damn city was sized 7). The geography got in our way, disrupting our speedy demonic swordsmen.

In the course of the attacks on the enemy capital, a great Celtic leader was forged in the fires of righteous war.

Fortunately, a side-force of only 4 swords managed to mow down the Aztecs along the western coast and captured Tlaxcala and Calixtlahuaca. Our strategists now advised to wait for Teotihuacan to expand its borders before reattempting another attack.

The Aztecs lacked iron and their horse tile could be easily pillaged. Only two viable cities remained. One could almost feel pity for them.... :mischief:

We await the Second Aztec War with great anticipation. :D

But for now, the spotlight falls on our Spanish allies to the south who are about to engage in a war of survival with the evil Carthaginian empire, who even once dared to extort the mighty Empire of the Celts. :)

Turn 116 - Spain:

The Spanish Ambassadors were dispatched to Babylon to negotiate a right of passage for Spanish troops. King donsig had decided such an agreement would be necessary in order to counter Carthaginian aggression. Hammurabi flatly refused to enter into the agreement muttering something about Spain's 'unprovoked attack' on Arabia.
When the King rec'd word of this he silently vowed to make Hammurabi pay for his insolence one day. Outwardly the king put Spain on a complete war footing while at the same time dispatching his ambassadors on to Carthage.
Hannibal proved a bit easier to deal with than Hammurabi. While Spain could not force any new concessions in the peace treaty, the King's ownership of Cirtas in perpetuity was guaranteed by the Carthaginians. Once the treaty was signed the ambassadors opened trade negotiations and were able to buy astronomy in exchange for a printing press, 280g and contact with the Aztecs.
Unfortunately, most countries are dirt poor and have nothing to trade! The King did send the secrets of astronomy, horses and two luxuries over to the Celts. :)

The King of Spain declares war on Babylon!
The citizens of Elipi recently overthrew their Babylonian oppressors and joined the Kingdom of Spain. King donsig believes other Babylonians would do the same if not for the recent cruel measures enacted by Hammurabi to prevent a further shrinking of this power. The Spanish King could not sit idly by as his Babylonian cousins are prevented from joining his kingdom. He therefore declared war on Babylon to liberate those who wish to join the Kingdom of Spain. Spain is at war with three nations again: Arabia, Carthage and Korea!

Arabian forces inside Spain were wreaking havoc with Spanish food supplies. When the Spanish government asked the Arabic forces to leave Spain, Arabia declared war! Spain shelled Arabian forces near Eridu and Carthage declared war on Spain. Arabia then coerced the Koreans into an alliance against Spain. Spain ancient friends across the water, the Celts, have come to Spain's aid. :)

Spain has built a great dam to bring power to Spanish factories. Wall St. And the SIA (Spanish Intelligence Agency) were also recently built. Spain only awaits the perfection of a new technology before unleashing it's war making machine.

Here is the current situation near Eridu where 10 Arabian bombers are based.

It's almost the endgame. I've set all the normal victory options on, so it's likely the Arabs will go for a space victory. And it doesn't look like we can touch them that soon - I'm not even sure if we can finish off the Carthaginians that soon. :(

One particular problem now are the radar towers. Every Carthaginian city has one nearby and it's always in the hardest to attk tile (hill, mountain etc). During my drive into Carthaginian Korea, I find I need to take out the tower, before even attacking the city... And each tower is defended by an infantry. I only have 4 artillery in Provincia Korea - far too little. Need time to build and transport more there...

I'll try to head for a space victory as well, and then we can continue the game as per normal after that (no more points). I'm sure you'll want to grind Arabia into dust as well... :D What do you think?

Did you do something to get it to Monarch (assuming they really are on Monarch)?I think we're really at monarch - we lost quite a number of wonders to the AI (Leo's, Sun Zi's, Sistine, Newton's, the list goes on). Invasion fleet stalled, as we await a passing Japanese battleship off the NE coast of our Western Empire. We had a battleship just coming into contact with it.

Kyoto falls. Japanese capital shifts way to the east, temporarily beyond the reach of Celtic forces. Nothing a transport or two can't solve. :)

The Celtic High Command is now trying to puzzle out how to cede an ex-Japanese city to the Spanish, w/o it falling immediately into Arabian hands... We might advise our Spanish brethren to temporarily make peace, after conquering the last Arab stronghold on the continent; and begin staging forces for a final showdown in Arabia. :)

We'd probably pass that last Japanese city to the east; so that the Celtic and Spanish forces can invade Arabia on different fronts. :)

Peace at last! After 44 turns of war, war, war Spain is once again at peace. It was not an easy thing to acheive and there were setbacks: lost a carrier and 4 stealth planes to the invisible foe! Realized there are subs about and learned not to move carriers first. :o Lost all our remaining modern armor in the attack on the last Arabian city on the Spanish continent. Luckily we have three armies of mecanized infantry. The all attacked successfully though the city remained in Arabian hands. Pulling all the stops the Spanish High Command decided to send in single divisions of mech infantry. The city fell to the first one. Peace was made and the Arabs paid 400g in reparations for the terrible bombing raids on Spain's north coast.

Building a few more ICBMs. The Celtic High Command is considering a pre-emptive nuclear strike to precede the assault on Arabia to save the lives of our soldiers; many of whom shall needlessly be lost in a conventional attack. :nuke: :smoke:

Our losses were severe. Kyoto was razed - fortunately our fleet of 3 battleships and 1 nuke sub was at sea - and Satsuma occupied. Lost almost entire army of workers in Provincia Nippon. Also lost one battleship escort and one unarmed nuke sub and maybe 10-12 MIs.

We have responded with a nuclear strike on every sizeable Arab city - almost all of them actually. The destruction is devastating...

Also launch one ICBM at that Arab stack of 3 carriers, escorted by 3 battleships, totally destroying the task force.

The Arabs lost 1/2 their MIs, and many other units; not to mention the general devastation of their land and population losses. However they do still have 3 tacticals and 10 ICBMs left. But not enough to kill us all. :mwaha:

The Arab Counter-strike

They launched all 8 of their ICBMs and possibly 1 tactical nuke. 4 were destroyed by our newly built SDI - 4 were not. Our capitol and 3 other productive cities were nuked. 10 million citizens were now radioactive ash...

We responded by nuking and razing Muscat.

Considering all things, it's a good exchange - 4 of our cities for 18 - 20 of theirs. :D

More ICBMs are ordered as we prepared for surgical nuclear strikes, to ease our extermination campaign on the Arabian continent.

After throwing back the Arab units in Provincia Nippon, our MAs, MIs, RAs and 2 MI armies are pushing into Arabia. Hopefully the 2 tactical nukes the Arabs had are onboard their 3 nuke subs...

The Arab forces kept decreasing. MIs down to 35, battleships to 6, not much of anything else. :) Support problem?

Progress of the war...

Another of our cities was nuked; this time by a sub-based tactical nuke. We're in the process of hunting down their nuke subs and they're down to last one, probably armed with a tactical.

On the war front, our forces are advancing into Arab territory and meeting little resistance. Another 2 cities were razed and one of our MA columns are already positioned outside another city.

Production-wise, the Arabs are crippled and reduced to producing riflemen and guerillas, with the odd MA or two. They could produce little else, with supply routes cut by radioactive waste and cities devastated by nuclear conflagrations.

The war front so far, circa 245 turn...
