View Full Version : Civ3 Mac editor status
Brad Oliver Nov 23, 2002, 03:16 PM I promised that I'd post when there was news, and now there is. The Mac editor went into beta testing yesterday, so it's one step closer. To stave off the next obvious question, I don't know when it'll be ready for release, but hopefully soon!

dojoboy Nov 23, 2002, 03:25 PM Great news, Brad. :) Thanks for the update.
Now, back to the show!
Pigumon Nov 23, 2002, 04:28 PM Thanks, Brad.
That is a great news for Mac folks, needless to say.
Though I will not have enough time to play with it.
frunobulax Nov 23, 2002, 07:25 PM Great news Brad... :) thanks for keeping us pesky Mac varmints informed !
Gremlins Nov 25, 2002, 06:11 AM That is good news...
Now, any chance to get a public beta before the GM release ? (these mac users, always in a hurry ;-)
frunobulax Nov 25, 2002, 10:22 AM Just wondering if the Mac Editor will run under both OS9 and OSX ? There's a note about the Editor beta on Westlake Interactive's project status page (http://www.westlakeinteractive.com/projectstat.html) saying OS9 NO !
I sure hope it runs on both, as i have no room for OSX on my G3 500 :(
willywonka Nov 25, 2002, 10:28 AM frunobulax,
the editor (at least over the almost year i have been waiting for it) was always slated exclusively for OS X. sorry to say, but i don't think its coming to an OS 9 computer near you.
ejday Nov 25, 2002, 02:35 PM frunobulax, I'm afraid (AFAIK) that you're outta luck on this one. Have you thought about an external hard drive? OS X is definitely worth it (even without running Civ3, and doubly with Civ3!).
Grey Randall Nov 25, 2002, 03:27 PM Either that, or do what I had to do with my gossamer G3... When I got a new hard drive (I got a 20 Gig Maxtor to replace the 4 Gig drive that came with the Gossamer), I partitioned the new drive, installed the new OS on one partition, then I disconnected the CD-ROM drive and attached the old 4 Gig drive and transferred everything over to the other partition. thankfully hard drives have gone down in price where you can do this without dipping too deeply into your pockets! You might not even have to disconnect your CD ROM with your G3 500... it might allow you to have a slave drive on it (Mine's a rev A G3, I'm pretty sure..no slave drives :( )
Of course it's all a moot point for me at the moment. Tenshi decided she was sick of seeing computers all over the house, so I had to take down the Gossamer, and move her Windows machine across the living room to make room I'm stuck Civing on my iBook... soon as I replace the AC Adapter for it. Anyone else notice that Apple actually has the cheapest price for one of those adapters?... Guess I'll just play with the playstation till I can play Civ again.
frunobulax Nov 26, 2002, 04:40 AM Thanks to willywonka, ejday and Grey Randall for the replies....
I can't partition the G3 Powerbook's drive as it has a lot of arcane audio software that cannot be reinstalled ;) IYKWIM.
Will have to consider a firewire external to boot OSX from.
I might think about buying one of these eMacs, as it's a good excuse to get OSX running at home and Edit some Civ3 scenarios.

I'm seriously considering an eMac, as well as the new iMac. Its just a matter time.
Grey Randall Nov 26, 2002, 07:12 AM Tenshi actually wants to come over from the Dark Side.
Our 13 year old no longer wants to use the Windows 98 machine. He wants one of my older Power Macs! and Tenshi wants one of the new iMacs... She almost broke the windows with the giant inhalation she made when she saw the price... But she still wants one She's sick of her Windows machine having conflicts and trashing her files.
Melinder Nov 26, 2002, 10:51 AM THANK YOU BRAD !!!!!
Azaroth Nov 26, 2002, 01:47 PM I do have to say that the eMac is a great, and reasonably priced machine. BUT...it looks like a G3 iMac gone horribly...horribly wrong.
The new iMac, though, is AMAZING! Especially with the wide-aspect screen. When they added that resolution to 1.21g...oh, was I ever a happy camper!
willywonka Nov 27, 2002, 11:51 PM any chance of the beta becoming a public beta? i promise not to complain if it is really buggy...

eeZee Dec 03, 2002, 06:02 AM yeah, how about a public beta??
that would be fun:crazyeye:
Grey Randall Dec 03, 2002, 08:19 AM Why do I get the feeling that I'm not the only one in need of serious dental work from champing at the bit for the editor? ::chuckles:: I wasn't about to post just a "Me Too!"

I just finished a game on a small world on prince... and the whole time, I was thinking "Gosh, if only I could upgrade the horsemen... just for unit integrity! Unit designation! There's not a single horse in the 11th Cav's tanks, but Blackhorse lives!"
...All I need is an editor.
