View Full Version : Sports Game
WildFire Nov 26, 2002, 11:24 AM What has been the best game you have ever gone too for a sporting event?
Mine was when i went to game 7 of the AHL (American Hockey League) finals when my team the Providence Bruins won the Calder Cup.
My second is my first game at Yankee Stadium.
gr8ful wes Nov 26, 2002, 11:33 AM This might be better suited to the Sports board, and was covered a few weeks ago, but thats ok.
PENN STATE football is a riot
I prefer minor leagur baseball though, used to go see the VT expos and the Oneonta Tigers when I lived in those towns.
;)
WildFire Nov 26, 2002, 11:38 AM Saw a couple games of AA baseball with the Norwich Navigators and they won the league!!! Also saw the All-Star game that they hosted. Thanks for reminding me gr8ful wes.
Wolfe Tone Nov 26, 2002, 11:41 AM 1994 all Ireland Semi-Final Down vs Cork. I had tickets for Hill 16. It was great. Down went on to win the All Ireland that year, it was great.
Pillager Nov 26, 2002, 11:50 AM One that sticks out, although not as my greatest sports event was watching Brian Lara for Warwickshire versus Sussex at Hove. Lovely day, Lara in top form.
Was a great game, to be sure.
Steve Winer Nov 26, 2002, 11:51 AM A really close hockey game in my hometown, Knoxville, TN. Not much here, but there was this really close game when the Knoxville Cherokees were here when Knoxville was still a pretty good member of the ACHL (Atlantic Coast Hockey Leauge).
Alcibiaties of Athenae Nov 26, 2002, 12:08 PM Sports belongs in the sports section...moved.
Best I ever saw was game three of WS at Yankee stadium, 1978.
Guidry beat the dodgers thanks to two great plays by Greg Nettles.
Suppersalmon Nov 26, 2002, 12:56 PM ummmm prob Charlton's 4-4 match with sunderland at wembely
tcjsavannah Nov 26, 2002, 02:53 PM Florida's 1986 comeback win over Auburn at Florida Field.. Kerwin Bell limped off his crutches and scored the winning conversion on two broken legs.. (ten years later, it'll be three broken legs)
mordhiem Nov 26, 2002, 04:21 PM Haven't been to a great match, but plenty of good 'uns. First one that comes into my head was when I first went to see the mighty Spurs beat Man City 3-1 with little Nick Barmby scoring a diving header. I tried to recreate in the back garden endlessly for weeks...
jpowers Nov 27, 2002, 09:11 AM Giants-Dodgers at the 'Stick late in the '97 season. Bonds hit a 2-run homer in the 1st and it held for a 2-1 win. Roberto Hernandez came on in the 8th and blew away the Dodgers for 2 innings. He threw 26 pitches (a lot for a setup man over two innings), and the last one was over 100 mph.
WildFire Nov 27, 2002, 11:58 AM Just went to a hockey game last night (reason why i started the thread) and saw the Bruins pound the Flames 7-2!! Glen Murray had a hat trick and thats awesome since he's on my fantasy hockey team that Steve Winer started. Also almost got in trouble for being to loud at a hockey game. Now tell me, its a HOCKEY game, how do you get to loud for a hockey game?

Uefa Cup Final at de Kuip stadium, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Feyenoord beat Dortmund 3-2 on their home field.
Håkon Dec 02, 2002, 09:10 AM Compared to this, the greatest sporting event I've ever been to is pathetic - the Olympic cross country relay for men at the Winter Olympics of '94. Norway came second (read: lost) and I couldn't see a thing, so it's not my best experience.
The best game is probably a Norwegian Cup semi-final about two months ago. My team, the away side, won 2-0 and I was about the only one in the stadium cheering for them ;).
Greadius Dec 04, 2002, 12:33 AM I've been to all of two sporting events.
A regular season NBA game in 1996 where the Orlando Magic trounced the Philadelphia 76ers, which I had a great time at.
And last Saturday's Florida vs. Florida State football game, where Florida State trounced the Gators infront of 84,000 of my closest friends
I suppose neither of those were monumental events. The second one was more important, but I had more fun at the first.
Sultan Bhargash Dec 04, 2002, 02:20 AM Six home games, Eagles football regular season 1992. Randall Cunningham and Reggie White at their height of ability. If you check the SI highlight tape of that year you can see me jump up behind Seth Joyner when he intercepts against Minnesota.
Nothing else very important, although I plan to be at Euro '04 in Portugal and World Cup '06 in Germany if it is willed.
puglover Dec 06, 2002, 05:43 PM The ONLY one I've been to was a baseball game between the Royals and the Mariners. Royals were creamed 11 to 2.
jiml_63 Dec 16, 2002, 09:58 AM Caught several playoff games in Chicago when the Bulls played at Chicago Stadium for their first 3 championships....That place used to rock.....
willemvanoranje Dec 20, 2002, 10:04 AM the best of 2002 was either Ajax - AS Roma, or Ajax - Machester United. The first one was a greater accomplishment though.

Give me a call if you come.;)
Mine was perhaps the football match between Portugal and Brazil least April. Other good sporting events I attended were 3 matches of the Round Robin of the 2000 Masters in Tennis and one day of the Indoor World Cup in Athletics in 2001.
And a month from now I have intentions to go and watch the final of the Handball World Cup that will be held over here.
Fool Inc. Dec 27, 2002, 10:04 PM In 1999 I saw the Lions in a stunning comeback over the future champion St. Louis Rams. 4 and 23 Batch, on the 10 or so, throws a bomb to Crowell who goes out of bounds at the 7 and then two plays later Batch throws to Morton for the touchdown and the win. Of course then they go 2-8 for the rest of the season and lose to the Redskins in the first round. (Why must all my stories about the Lions end bitter sweet )
