View Full Version : Voodoo 3
Shabbaman Nov 27, 2002, 09:24 AM I've got a problem. The main problem is that I own a Voodoo 3 video card. Why is that a problem? Because the manufacturer went bankrupt some years ago, so they don't produce any new drivers.
The last factory driver won't work with directx8.1, and I need that version.
I've dowloaded a (beta) version of a driver that would work with it, v3-w9x-1.09.00-beta7 (the 3dhq beta 7), but now my computer doesn't recognize my voodoo3 as a 3d card anymore...
I'm lucky civ3 still works...

Try here.
munzy76 Nov 27, 2002, 11:43 AM Do you have an AGP slot in your mother board? If so I would strongly recommend a GeForce 4 MX. You can get them, with shipping, for about 50 bucks. www.pricewatch.com
I have one and I can play UT 2003 at a decent framerate: about 30 fps. Not bad for such a cheap card, plus my processor is a little slow, Duron 750.
Sodapop Nov 27, 2002, 09:07 PM GeForceMX are bad munzy :p Get an ATI Radeon :D Don't help those who bought 3Dfx and now don't give support for the company's old product...
Oh, and I tried the drivers Corn suggested with my old voodoo 4, and they didn't work right (that was this summer though). So I guess you're lucky if you get it to work. The only thing I can say is good luck. :)
munzy76 Nov 27, 2002, 10:08 PM Don't be mad at nVidia...be mad at 3dfx for going out of business. nVidia has no requirement to support 3dfx's prodcuts....they purchased the technology not the support requirements.
Shabbaman Nov 28, 2002, 03:00 AM Thanks corn, that's where I got my drivers in the first place.
I think 'bout getting a new videocard (hey, everything beats a 16 mb card with no support), but I actually sort of decided not to upgrade that thing 'video-wise', since I plan op playing civ3 a lot.
Sim_One Dec 01, 2002, 01:16 PM I have a Voodoo4500 and yes I am also pissed about 3DFx selling itself to nVidia and not providing new drivers. nVidia should incorporate Voodoo compatible drivers in their Detonator pack or whatever it is called as a gesture of good faith to Voodoo owners.

Totally agree... The key word is respect. Maybe they thought I would buy one of their card because they didn't give any driver. Well I just decided to go to their direct competitor and bought a card from them. Nvidia could have gotten new customers if they would have shown some respect for 3Dfx card owner. They didn't, so they won't get a penny from me... ever.
Jeratain Dec 08, 2002, 05:13 PM The rendering that the Voodoo cards use is outdated anyhow, so whats the point? You will have to upgrade in a few years anyhow.
Sodapop Dec 08, 2002, 06:34 PM So instead I update now and pay 150 bucks... And then reupdate in a few years paying once again 150 bucks... That is the point
