MadScot Nov 29, 2002, 03:31 AM OK, let's have another round; 12 pictures this time, in the next two posts. We'll start with a couple of ships, 2 aircraft and 2 tracked things. :)

The thing to be named is the device the two soldiers are working with; don't bother trying to identify their personal weapons ;)

MadScot Nov 29, 2002, 03:35 AM The second half of the quiz: a couple of guided weapons, another tracked thing, a couple of infantry weapons and a final ship.
Good luck....

As before, the thing to be named is the device the two soldiers are working with. I don't want to know the model number of the radio - but will be impressed if someone does know that, too... ;)

Mikoyan Nov 29, 2002, 05:09 AM #2, Admiral Ushakov (Kirov class) Russian battlecruiser.
#3, Mirage 4000
#11, AN-94 Abakan
Rodgers Nov 29, 2002, 05:10 AM #5 is a remotely controlled devise for destroying tanks - cant remember the damn name though.
#6 is either a Valentine or a Matilda tank (I'd go with the Matilda if I had to make a choice)
Dont know any of the others :)
Pillager Nov 29, 2002, 05:23 AM #5, an early vacuum cleaner?
#10, seems to be a radio with an integrated pillow. Very clever :yeah:.
Panda Nov 29, 2002, 05:56 AM #5 Goliath
#6 Matilda
#9 BTR-70
#10 TOW anti-tank?
napoleon526 Nov 29, 2002, 11:02 AM #12 looks like a Perry-class frigate.
Don't recognize any of the others, though. :ashamed:
joespaniel Nov 29, 2002, 03:46 PM 1 HMS Repulse?
2 One mean looking missle crusier, Russian?
3-4 ?
5 Rodgers is correct, its a remote controled anti-tank mine. Dont know the name...
6 Rodgers strikes again! A Matilda.
7 SAM, British, no idea...
8 Cruise Missle, British, no idea again...
9 BRDM?
10 is not a TOW, but I cant remember the name...
11 I think Miko is right, AN-94
12 I dunno, Perry class sounds good to me too
This is a tough one. :)
MadScot Nov 29, 2002, 05:27 PM And the correct answers so far, with person getting it first, are:
1: -
not Repulse
2: Adm Ushakov / Kirov - Mikoyan
3: Mirage 4000 - Mikoyan (despite my airbrushing out the name on the nose!)
4: -
5: Goliath - Panda (Rodgers was on the right track :))
6: Matilda (MkII) - Rodgers (beating Panda to the punch)
7: -
joespaniel is on the scent
8: -
don't let the plane in the background fool you - there is no linkage between the two
9: -
not BTR-70 or BRDM - they are both wheeled
10: -
not TOW
11:AN-94 Abakan (Russian assault rifle) - Mikoyan
12: -
not Perry-class
and the scores by person are:
Mikoyan : 3
Rodgers : 1
Panda : 1
Pillager gets an honourable mention for humour (I liked the "pillow" idea :))
So it's Mikoyan with the early lead....
nixon Nov 29, 2002, 06:12 PM #12, is that a CG-26 Belknap class guided missile cruiser?
joespaniel Nov 29, 2002, 08:25 PM Guessing #1 is Iron Duke class dreadnaught...
(found this site http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aj.cashmore/britain/british-dread.html )
Is #9 a BMP?
MadScot Nov 29, 2002, 08:51 PM nixon:
not a Belknap - they had a 5"/42 mount on the quarterdeck, this ship's helo deck runs to the stern.
joe:
not Iron Duke, although they do look alike. The arrangement of the secondary armament differs, though - this ship has 2 guns facing forward on the lower deck, and two on the upper - the Duke has 4 on a lower level and a single gun above that. There are also funnel differences, which are hard to make out from the angle of the pictures.
and not a BMP either
but in both cases on the right lines.
jeriko one Nov 30, 2002, 03:38 AM 1-Renown Class
4-Boston
7-Bloodhound
9-Not sure but PT76?
12-Caio Duilio(Andrea Doria Class)
jeriko one Nov 30, 2002, 03:40 AM Sorry 12 is not Caio Duilio it is Andrea Doria.553 is Andrea Doria 554 is Caio Duilio.
animepornstar Nov 30, 2002, 06:05 AM 9: bmd?
G-Man Nov 30, 2002, 06:12 AM THE andrea doria or some ship with the same name? I don't recall the andrea doria having guns, a helipad or even being a piece of military hardware... I guess it's possible that they named a ship after her though
Edit: I just remembered the name of #10 - could it be the MILAN system?
MadScot Nov 30, 2002, 11:18 AM Another few knocked off...
4. is a Boston (DB-7A in fact)
7. is a Bloodhound SAM
12. is the Andrea Doria
- so jeriko one moves into a tie for lead with 3 points
animepornstar correctly identified 9 as a BMD (BMD-1M M1983 in fact)
G-Man got the name of the "pillow" - it's MILAN (#10)
So there are only 2 to get:
#1
#8
and the scores by person are:
Mikoyan : 3
jeriko one : 3
Rodgers : 1
Panda : 1
animepornstar : 1
G-Man : 1
jeriko one Nov 30, 2002, 02:44 PM Last guess
1-Hood or Canada class
2-Ruhrstall/Kramer SD 1400 Fritz X
MadScot Nov 30, 2002, 03:28 PM 1. Those are two guesses really.
2. #8 is indeed a Fritz-X missile/bomb.
that would only leave #1 "unsolved" but in fact puts jeriko one in the lead unassailably, and in fact one of the two guesses was correct.
She is, in fact, HMS Canada. Very, very, similar to the Iron Dukes, being built at the same time. Less so to Hood - you can just make out Q turret in the picture, if you know where to look :).
So, giving Jeriko credit for tracking down #1, that gives the final standings:
jeriko one : 5
Mikoyan : 3
Rodgers : 1
Panda : 1
animepornstar : 1
G-Man : 1
Over to you....
