I got the turn this morning so you should find it in your mailbox soon.

Incredible starting location for you Propain, too bad for you you had to wait for cultural expansion to use those cows. Or was that done on purpose as to give the others a chance to keep up? ;)

As far as the Persian empire is concerned, I'm happy to report that Persia has taken a giant leap in the demographics compared to the latest statistics Matrix put on his site. :D

Maybe Propain isn't the only one with cows nearby....

it's the well known trade of between moving a settler and losing a turn or settling on the spot. This screenshot was taken from a 'replay' also, when i played the turn I first moved the scout and decided to wait the turns.

Got my turn and playing it right now.

I won't be at home much the following days, so I'll only be able to play at the university. Not in the weekend. :undecide: I don't know for how long, but probably not very long (two weeks or so)...

Too bad, Matrix. :(
Have you recieved the turn from Plux already?

It's been ages since I last played a turn! (Well, 2 days actually, but it feels like a very long time ;) )

I won't start about the 1 turn/day thing again, but it would be nice if the game progressed on a steady pace, especially since now the early expansion phase is almost over and diplomacy kicks in.

If anyone can't play their turn for some time, please (like Matrix) make a statement here or send an email to the players so we know why the delay occurs.

edit: recieved the save about 1 minute after posting :yeah:

If any outsiders still want to follow this game, I put my log online at http://62.251.31.100/AO1/log.html. No access allowed for fellow players!!! Note that I'm hosting it on my own pc, so there may be times that it is not available. I already asked Matrix to put a link on his AO1-site

I didn't take the time to fit it in yet, Plux. Sorry. :( But I will soon. ;)

As a statistics freak, I checked all the dates I received a savegame and sent it forth. Unfortunately, of the times that I played and sent it from the university I don't know when I sent it, so I have no reference of those turns. :undecide:

Matrix, could you please resend the 2510 BC save because something must have gone wrong when sending the save. It is only 43k large and when loading PTW gives an invalid save file error.

When will we be collecting our demographics again? Shall we keep on doing that every 500 years in the pre-AD era, meaning I should send a screenshot from this turn or the next, or shall we make the period turn-specific (every 10 turns)?

There have been some very interesting developments in this game recently, can't wait to get some additional turns going. :)

The Iroquois are happy to report they're still going strong. Scouts still roam the lands and discover new terrain. Our medicin men recently also discovered a new tech and smoke signaling away to our neighbours to tell them the good news ( and make em jealous ) Still a bit too early to show a satelite foto of our lands. Maybe in a few turns we'll post a peek

Our American friend speaks with an agressive tongue. The peaceloving Iroquous would never exterminate poor savages. We strife to pacify, revert and assimilate them into the great Iroquois Nation. Of course there's always the risk that some overzealous Iroquois Warrior collects the odd scalp......but if you want an omelet you gotta break some eggs.:D

ProPain
Feb 05, 2003, 03:17 AM
Assimilate has nothing to do with culture in the Iroquois book. We think more along the lines of gently taking over there settlements, stationing a few good troops there, put them to work on some badly needed improvements (maybe use a whip, but gently also  )and issue food rations that kinda select the strong from the weak.

But extermination is such a harsh word.

Kemal
Feb 05, 2003, 04:15 AM
While their fierce neighbours quarrel over how to subdue savages across the sea, Sjah Kemal has had visions (not after using too much of the Iroquois' pemmican, mind you ;) ) over even more fertile lands spanning an entire planet, located many, many miles away. :)

Already every effort is made to ensure the Persian people being the first to reach these new grounds! In the meantime however, the Sjah has noticed that already the lands near the Persian borders are beginning to get crowded with others, and "gently" urges these bow and arrow wielding warriors not to grab more nearby territory.

Whatever. Straland rules. :D

We know a lot of surroundings and have good and friendly contact with our neighbours. Even though it appears Straland is far more superior in development. :p

Starting with scouts have major advantages! All those hut that never give barbarians, but do give technologies and even a complete city. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/yeah.gif (I'd rather have a settler, but ok.)

They won't I always play downstairs (in het "ei"), where they never come check. By the way, playing one turn isn't very noticable, is it? ;)

Anyway, about the time: I never expected Redwatch to receive it before 17:30, but I do at 22:30, so that Plux can play his turn between 23:00 and 17:00 the next day. Preferably earlier, so that I don't have to wait for it.

Hi Guys,

First of all I'd like to say sorry for holding up this game. Since two weeks I've moved and for now have no internet at the new home, that's why I've been so silent. Also, yesterday I came back from a week of snowboarding in the French Alps, and wasn't even able to play civ3 at all. Today is my first day back at the uni, and I'll take the save with me, and hope to send it on tomorrow or the day after. I think it'll take at least 3 to 4 weeks to get internet at my new place, so I will prolly still continue to slow down progression, but I promise to try to play every turn in two or three days. Again, I'm very sorry to hold up the various PBEM's im in and hope to be back @ full online strength asap ;)

Matrix
Apr 26, 2003, 05:41 PM
Wow, relax buddy! It's not like you've spoiled the entire game. ;) In fact I think it matters d***. I just said it in case you're gonna be too open in the future.

When we all know each other we can all say whatever we like! (You may even post your map if you don't mind. ) I can't wait till that moment has come, so that we can debate openly about our/others atrocities or good deeds. :D

By the way, Plux, what's the status of your internet at home? Any idea when you'll have it?

Aggie
Apr 28, 2003, 11:30 AM
Don't worry matrix. I wanted to make sure that you all knew that I got the message :) I'm ready, I know the password (thanks Matrix ;) ). But still I have to understand the meaning of the offer that was made. Only then I can play.

Matrix
Apr 28, 2003, 05:16 PM
You got a deal; do something with it, or abort! I wanna play! It's been too long!!

Aggie
Apr 28, 2003, 05:18 PM
OK, I'll cancel that deal and play tomorrow!

Matrix
May 02, 2003, 12:13 AM
I haven't received it myself yet. ;)
And I hoped I could play it monday... :(

Anyway, I'm back sunday night.

Plux
May 02, 2003, 09:05 AM
I just checked the status of my ADSL-application, and it'll prolly be a week or two, so we will have to wait just a little untill we can try to get back to 1 turn/day. Just picked up the save @ uni, and I will send it on saturday night/sunday morning..

Matrix
May 05, 2003, 05:55 AM
I played it yesterday night around 0:30 which was obviously too late, because I exited without saving and didn't think about sending the none existent savegame. But just now I played and sent it. :)

Matrix
May 05, 2003, 06:41 AM
We seem to have problems with the savegame; I've played my turn en sent it to Kemal, but when he loads the game, he starts with my empire and has to finish the turn before he can play his own turn.

He has played his turn this way, but I hope we won't have to continue playing this way!

ERIKK
May 05, 2003, 10:12 AM
I am on 1.21 but can play 1.14. What version did you play on (and Kemal)?

Kemal
May 05, 2003, 12:48 PM
That could indeed pose a problem, though I do not think this is related to it, as Matrix loaded the game he sent me himself and the exact same thing happened on his machine.

I'm still at 1.14, but I'll upgrade to 1.21 very soon, almost certainly before I play another DDPP turn.

Matrix
May 05, 2003, 02:12 PM
I played this game with 1.14, though I have 1.21 too. I'll load the savegame with 1.21 too and see if it goes well then...

Matrix
May 05, 2003, 02:18 PM
:wallbash: Now that I replayed it I know what went wrong: I saved it not by ending my turn, but just saving it from the menu.

Kemal
May 05, 2003, 02:30 PM
Good, that's solved then, and don't worry, I haven't changed any of your production queues, nor poprushed some spearmen in your cities....:satan: ;)

(Actually, I tried not to look at anything, just ended your turn as quickly as possible :) )

I'm at 1.21 as well. Also 1.14 possible, but this is the last game on it :)

Kemal

I'm at 1.21 now too, so after Plux upgrades there'll be no more problems with that.

I have some issues with installing 1.21f, because on my laptop with XP Home the patch won't install. So i have to take it with me and try to get it installed om my XP Pro system at home, and I can send the save on only later this night or even tomorrow.

Problems solved, game sent to Matrix.. for some reason I downloaded the patch with a macOS-system and it didn't work.. After downloading it on a W2K-pc, everything was ok.. strange, but hey! :)

Last savegame I received was three days ago. Where is it now?

You know, I have been trying to make a Perl/CGI or PHP script where we can go to when we've played a savegame and sent it on to the next one so that everyone can see where it is. (Talking about Big Brother. :satan: ) But I'm too unfamiliar with these languages. :(

More important: I've updated my log (http://www.straland.com/DutchPBEM/) again! http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/yeah.gif (For lurkers only. ;))

Matrix

This is a graph with the scores of everyone minus the average. So if your score is 50, but the average is 60, this graph says it's 50 - 60 = -10. It's so frayed because the game rounds the scores.

Explanation (or discussion):
1. Aggie (formerly Redwatch), Plux and Kemal started so low because they built their capital one turn later than the rest did, I think.
2. It looks like ProPain and I got our "bonus" city on almost the exact same turn; perhaps he one turn earlier.
3. ERIKK's doing bad. :p

Anyway, I've updated my log (http://www.straland.com/DutchPBEM/) again. Players: don't look!

But I've also updated the open, common page:

Very nice work, Matrix! :goodjob:

Looks like Aggie's influence in the game is already showing, as the Egyptians are moving away from Persia in the graph. :(

btw, what kind of stuff can be sent to you for the site? I imagine you yourself don't want to see too much of it before we have contacted eachother in the game.

Eh, well, if you have experience with making websites and you like making them you could make your own log and I'll post a link, so that we have all logs bundled together.

But otherwise you could, also if you like, make a text which I'll put in the player-section, where there are now only one or two lines. And you can always make screenshots; just don't show too much. I don't know how much; judge for yourself...

Two days we have to wait yet and Aggie's back. :)

I was wondering: am I the only one with a log of our game? :( I didn't find any spoiler threads on anarres' forum. (Not to read it, I was simply curious about it. ;)) I believe this is the longest multimultiplayer game alive, so that's quite a prestation; worth documenting... ;)

hmmm what year are you up to...i'm in the nh1 game, with 4 players and we are up to 1100BC doing about 4-5 turns a week.

Still for the eight of you to persist considering the delays you've had is very impressive. keep it up.

Matrix

We are with six. And we've had some periods where nothing happened and periods with 1 turn a day. You can view the progress in my log. We're now at 1750 BC.

Check the second thread Redwatch! This game is far from dead. Good to hear you have recovered from your accident. Aggie has taken over your empire but he is on holiday now so Killer is governing the Egyptians at the moment

Hi Redwatch, as Erikk pointed out the game is far from dead, we're planning its first annual celebration actually!

Sorry to hear about your car-accident, but I'm glad you recovered. As said, Aggie, and now Killer, are controlling Egypt at the moment. You can check Matrix's site too for some fast and very good general info. :)

Matrix

Wow, you're still alive! So it was a car crash that made you disappear. Sorry to hear that, but a good thing you're recovered. :)

To avoid confusion, let's keep it in one thread. ;)
