View Full Version : multi language installations?
ErichRommel Sep 15, 2010, 04:04 AM Is it possible to install 2 different language versions of CIV5
on the same PC? When i use a different installation folder will there be
problems with patches or so?
Wuddel Sep 15, 2010, 04:40 AM I very much doubt that. Steam will handle you installation. Its more like iTunes for games. You have less control and I guess there will be only one install per computer - maybe some tech savvy people know a work around.
So my Windows installation was set to german. I changed that yesterday. You separately have to set the language in Steam. It was set to german and I also changed it to english yesterday. Then it downloaded like 10 GB of language packages for all the games I had installed.
I really would recommend installing the english version. The translation in Civ4 was so bad, that it lead to me not understanding some game concepts.
kaltorak Sep 15, 2010, 05:11 AM They better let me install it in english. I'm so mad at games which just will install in spanish... Why would they care if I prefer to play it in its original language?
ErichRommel Sep 15, 2010, 05:19 AM Actually i need to install it in german cause my GF isnt that good at english ;)
Anybody know if the german tech quotes are any good?

You choose which language you want to use, but all langauges are installed.
ErichRommel Sep 15, 2010, 05:51 AM I doubt that but would be nice.

If you preloaded the game, just look into the installation folder, files in 5 languages are all there already.
ErichRommel Sep 15, 2010, 06:08 AM Well the files are there of course but that doesnt mean they are geting installed.
Would be against any .msi multilanguage installation logic ^^

There is not any .msi installer, Steam works different.

In multilanguage games on Steam, you can choose the language before start the game. Just right-button , click on properties and has a tab for that. If you change from there the language you will need to download just the language part.
I use it on valve games and other multilangs. Im Spanish but prefer English audio.

Then you'll love Civ5, because you can change audio and text there independently ;).
