Here's a presumptuous one to get the ball rolling:
B01 - Arrogant Fools (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=380666)
Not a 'standard' SG, but I look forward to seeing brave idiots partake in a display of arrogance through this fool's errand
Sep 20, 2010, 11:43 PM
Another non-standard SG but it was a good introduction to Beyond the Sword.
Many Leaders Game 9 - Civ 5 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=380770)

LotR29 Angry Aztecs
Version: Latest of Civ5
Civ: Montezuma of the Aztecs
Map: Standard-size, standard # of opponents, continents, high water level
Win Condition: Domination (all enabled but anything but domination feels/counts
as a loss)
Variant: ANGRY! (described below) Basically, we will not have happy people once we cross a certain threshold fairly early in the game
Start Date: As soon as filled
See first post for general rules and notes and such. 24/72. No worker steals. Maximal ethics.
No Legalism (in Tradition)
No Meritocracy (in Liberty)
No garrisoning cities if Military Caste (Honor) is active
No Piety at all
No Protectionism (Commerce)
No Humanism(Rationalism) or Sovereignty (Rationalism)
No Planned Economy (Order)
The Hanging Gardens
Can not raze or puppet cities – must capture every city.
Unhappiness has multiple effects.
At low levels, it cuts excess food by 75%. That means cities essentially stop growing and/or grow very slowly. This is not a huge deal, and it’s often temporary (though it won’t be for us). Population can be gained in other ways! :hammer:
At high levels, it also cuts production by 50% and eliminates the chance to build settlers. Well, we can still grow our population :hammer:, but we can’t found additional cities. That kinda hurts. Production also becomes relatively a complete loser to gold. By this point, I expect we’ll be very heavy into trading posts. Buy units cheaply, upgrade ‘em, etc. Food and hammers are both semi-nixed at this point.
Also, at high levels, our troops "lose effectiveness". I don’t know what this means. 33% loss of combat strength? I think I saw that somewhere, but it's hard to tell for certain. Something like that wouldn’t surprise me. We’ll find out for sure. But it’ll make our accumulation of additional population more challenging.
I should point out that the map settings will mean we’ll have to tech a fair ways – at least to Navigation. Fortunately, beakers are only indirectly affected by happiness (by way of population growth). So we will need/want a large population base. And research agreements might be valuable – or they might not be. Something to keep in mind and discuss.
Potential sign-ups, do note difficulty level and variant nature of this. Please be ready to at least consider the possibility of defeat. We will need good play and good discussion and good luck to beat this, maybe….
Please sign up in the LotR thread.

I'm looking to hop into a SG to hone my skills a little. I played some Civ 3 SG (under a different name) and sat out the SG in Civ 4.
I was able to beat Civ 3 on deity but never really mastered Civ 4 and hovered around the middle difficulty levels. However I seem to be off to a solid start in Civ 5, crushing a prince and king and am well on my way in my current emperor game having knocked out two neighbors before 0 AD.
Unfortunately, the only real strategy that I have found success with is a form of ICS, taking advantage of CS + the order +5 hammer social policy. So what I am looking for is a King or up type game that won't be emphasizing cramming in as many cities as possible. I really want to hone my skills and learn some alternate paths to victory. PM me if you are interested!

Not sure how much currently running games look here, you may want to see if any are looking for another player. I know at least one had an open slot.

A Tale of Not That Many Cities (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=397483) is now recruiting people who don't want to play ICS.

Is there any SG recruiting players?

Just starting a new game with Russia. King difficulty on a fractal map. Come check it out, its called The Rise of Russia (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=10169380#post10169380). Its a pretty sweet looking starting location....

*Notes the tumbleweeds and crickets; shrugs.
I see there isn't much going on around here but figured I'd throw a post up anyway. I'd be interested in joining an SG if anybody is starting one or has spots open. I used to play them here back in IV, or was it III? Maybe both - it's been a few years for me.
(I have all the DLC civs if it matters; I noted some issue with that in some of the other SGs I read through here.)

We've got the Gandhi one active (it's also the only active one). I'd be okay with another player, but I get to kill the Iroquois first. :mwaha:
May 17, 2011, 04:29 PM
I've been following that one (being the only one going) but didn't really want to impose on a set roster with a plan :p
I haven't had the game too long and there's a lot I still don't quite get about it yet, though I have won all but one of my games so far, mostly on Prince, the last couple on King.
If the group wants/needs another player I can give it a shot.
May 18, 2011, 03:14 PM
Well I don't mind if you drop by the thread and put in the request! Give it a try....
May 20, 2011, 07:56 AM
Please do Panth...we could always use another player. We've had the roster drop to two because of RL issues...so...more is always better...well...to an extent. ;)
May 24, 2011, 09:13 PM
I'd also be interested in giving one of these a try, if there's room in any upcoming. I read through the Gandhi thread so far, so I have a general idea of how everything works.
May 24, 2011, 10:52 PM
Go ahead and post in the thread. i think we have space for one more. i'll let the rest of the guys vote.

I am making an open-minded succession game.
Everyone is welcome!
Please vote on what civilizations you want.
Only vote if you intend to play or watch this. If you are just popping in to take a look at the first turnset, be considerate and don't vote.
Feel free to request any special rules. If you want to play with extra city-states, don't be afraid to ask.
If you want raging barbarians, go ahead!
But majority rules.
Just a few things,
Please download the InfoAddictMod
If you have no DLcs, you might be able to help in a huge way.
Anyone PM me if you are interested.

Wow , succession games really got knocked around.
Is it the DLC ?
G @ K might make things a bit more intersting, but I haven't learned the mechanics well enough to get involved.
Strange that such a dynamic part of the civ game is empty.
Jun 27, 2012, 10:58 AM
What happened to SGs is a question I quite often ask myself but I still have no real answer to it.
Partly it is DLC but actually thats not really a problem as you can set games up that are DLC free.
I wonder if its that when civ5 was released there was such a backlash from parts of the community that tend to play SGs that everybody else was put off. Maybe :dunno:
Anyway there is a few of us that were still playing but we gave it a rest to wait for G&K. My guess is it won't be long before we get a game up and going.
Aug 22, 2012, 07:42 AM
G&K has been out for some time now. Is there any interest in running a succession game?
Aug 22, 2012, 01:45 PM
Aug 23, 2012, 03:50 AM
I could participate as well
Aug 24, 2012, 12:43 PM
I'd participate too.
Aug 29, 2012, 01:16 PM
I'd consider it as well. I've been playing lots of EU3 and looking for a way to get back into some civ.
SGs for the win!
Sep 16, 2012, 08:16 AM
A patch months ago messed up my game and made it unplayayable, otherwise people here would have heard something from me, as a G&K Succession Game was the plan.
Just tried my game again and the problem is now resolved, finally! So I'll see about purchasing G&K, and then hopefully a Succession Game.
Looking at the posts before this one, with 5 people within a week posting their interest in a Succession Game, there could easily have been one on the go already!
Aug 04, 2013, 03:44 PM
Got BnW, playing immortal with different civs. I would like to play some SG!
Feel free to invite me!
