Well, I guess this it it then. The only reason I started playing deity was the assurance that another deity game was going to show up in this competition sooner or later. I just hope that all that practise pays off now.

Much of luck to all competitors this month. I think we'll need it.

One question though: is culturally linked on or off, on the gotm page it says "no respawn, culturally linked positions". Is that yes or no?

I think that's "yes", Kemal. :)

Well, at least for any deity game I always have time. I doesn't take long to manage three cities.

What are all the little green kryptonite things in the grasslands? I have never seen these before

"What are all the little green kryptonite things in the grasslands? I have never seen these before"

The show food/resource icons preference is checked. The green things say how much food the tile provides, the grey ones say how many shields.

"Important Rules Change: Starting with this GOTM, you need to submit a savegame of the turn just *after* the game is finished."

Looks like the GOTM police got tired of our scores cluttering their personal HOF.

Deity... Well jee, how many ways can I get my butt whipped...

Considering how I did on the Japanese emperor one (couldn't beat it even if I reloaded for everything), I think I'll go for lasting 1000 years...

Hhmmm... looks like I'm having two Deity games this month -the first two in my career, actually!

I hope I survive long enough to submit for the QSC...

I normaly seem to have problems on Deity, but normaly survives. But i did a fast try of this Gotm last night and got wiped REALY fast. Got to 5 cities and 15 military units then got wiped out in less than 10 turns. So ill give it a second try, but this one seems to be hard.

Pardon the stupid question, but how exactly is it possible to save a game after it's finished?

thanks!

Hi congo, actually it is a good question, glad you asked. After the win, you go through all the game ending screens until you get to your Hall of Fame page. When you exit that screen you come back to your game and a dialog asks you if your done or you want to play on? Play on and then save your game at that point. OK?

We did this because far too many games were not actually done and required us to figure out how to 'save their bacon' so to speak, and believe me a few were actually saved I think. ;)

Oh, ok. I forgot all about that screen, mainly because I think I've always said "no".

thanks!

Hey, I just joined the forums and I hope to give this map a go. I was first introduced to Civ by a person that would eventually become my physics teacher. He had an old copy of civ1, no fooling, on just one of his laptops. Joy! I discovered the game early last year and play it almost every day in Information Technology. I bought Civ3 last year as I heard coincidentally that there was a new version. I played CTP for only a day at my friend's house, who incidently had the game, wow, i never knew and i knew him for the past couple of years and I thought I played every game he owns, anyway, when i got civ3 it was like a dream come true and I spent much of summer vacation playing this ever addicting game. I always play pangea style with as many civs as possible and the biggest map as possible. Verrrrry long loading times btw. It took me the whole summer but I won in a cheiftain conquest victory, no fooling, all civs, russians, 2008 AD. Lol, I suck. Anyway, I hope to last until AD in this. Probably not, since from what I hear, this map is verrrry difficult and one other fact; Ive only played the highest difficultly level on civ1; coincidentally i won, since I bought the other civs into war then beat their weakened butts with bomber/tank comboes. I heard civ3 deity is much harder and Ive only played monarch on it. I lost ;( But I'm just babbling on so I'll save my Babylonian rant for later. ;)

Hmm, Deity? That might be something worth making a comeback. :mischief:
Looks like my first and already started PtW game will have to wait, but it still is difficult to determine whether time will be enough. Christmas break could help a little, though.
:D

If you have as much sucess as i did, time wil NOT be a problem.
I am shure i used less than 2 hours.

Happy playing.

By all means!

Why did you leave actually?

Primarly due to time restraints. But that was only for the first 2 or 3 GOTMs which I left out. The other reasons are listed in Matrix´ retire thread, somewhere just below this one. Not gonna post that all again and it also doesn´t belong here. :mischief:

Ani, I think I can handle Deity pretty well, didn´t lose any Deity game of Civ3 yet. But of course it depends greatly on the circumstances of this challenge, but those weren´t really great in the last Deity GOTM either.
:D

You can't make a save game the turn after if you get conquered. Then there is no "let's play another round". It is just over. Done. Dead .. as me ... I hate you Jerxes!

In this case send in the autosave from the last turn you were able to play and let us figure it out. OK? Probably have alot of this type of situation this month. :(

Sure thing. My master game. Scoring a whooping 512 points. Dead by 860 AD.

My guess is that we will see lots of games lost to conquest. If only I had been able to flee from the island of persia and settle someplace else I might have lived a few more years.

Hee-hee. You certainly do from me. Since I knew it was coming, I made sure to save at the end of every turn the last couple turns. Luckily for you all, I think the last turn I was down to one or two bowmen so you don't have to watch too much slaughter ;]

Ouch!! Sounds like there'll be a whole lot of :spank: going on this month!

Is there going to be a QSC this month? I'd already played past 1000 BC in GOTM13 before I noticed last month's QSC. In case Cracker does it again, I am diligently taking notes, for as long as I survive the game, or 1000 bc, whichever comes first!

Good question. For a Deity game I would like to see the log of anyone who manages to win.

Haven't heard anything about the last QSC.

Diety? :crazyeye:

Guess I picked a bad month to try my first GOTM. Or a good month to play my first GOTM QSC (Giving me a more reasonable goal of getting to 1000BC)
