View Full Version : Game of Republic - Team 3 (Astonian Empire)

Spacetrvler
Dec 01, 2002, 07:50 PM
This is the thread for the initial workings of the Astonian Empire.

The Line-Up:

Spacetrvler- Supreme(or a title to that respect) Emperor/ Führer
Hygro-Foreign Advisor
Unregister-Emporer's Advocate
Plexus-Domestic Advisor
Naervod-Military Advisor

The Constitution of the Astonian Government

Preamble

The Astonian Government will be the foundation of the Astonian Empire. The Empire will exist as a constitutional empire. The Astonian Government will be a little more streamlined than its "sister" governments (disregarding the Rogue Nations).
This is open to amendment.

Arcticle 1. Executive/Legeslative Branch

The Emperor will play the game
It will consist of a 5 person Cabinet of Advisors (including Emporer) that will make decisions for the review by the Emperor.

The Emperor has the power to veto any and all choices and amendments.

The Cabinet of Advisors will include:

Emporer's advocate (acts as Emporer's deputy) 4 votes
Domestic Advisor (controls all science, culture and domestic affairs) 3 votes
Military Advisor (controls Military, National Defence and Spy forms of espionage) 2 votes
Foriegn Advisors (incharge of keeping up relations with other nations and trade, UN rep) 2 votes
Senate Chairman (chairman of the Senate) 6 votes

The Senate will include:

Senate Chairman (runs senate meetings)
Governors (incharge of provinces)

Article 2. Judicial Branch

Using laws developed in the Senate, the Attorney General will enforce the laws. Cases will be run by the Attorney General, a prosecuter from the state (emporer or advocate), and the defendant. Both sides will be heard and then will be decided by the attorney general. Cruel and unusual punishment is a viable punishment.

Article 3. Appointments

The Emporer is appointed by challenges.
Challenges consist of:
Military Might (GOTM style game on tiny map with the selected civ)
Mental Might (a game of chess)
Civil Might (a simple vote)

The Emperor Appoints the other positions (including Governors) except Senate Chairman

Senate Chairman is elected by peers

Article 4. Governors and Provinces

Governors are life-long appointments (unless replaced or banned).
Governors start out with one city and may expand thier provinces through:
Obtaining new or captured cities
or Challenging the preciding governor to a Military Challenge (GOTM Style)
Larger governors pull more weight in the senate.

Article 5. Playing

The emperor will play the game.
Each turn will be discussed by the cabinet in a turn chat during the specified times.
Senate will meet one hour before turn chats for a session.

The next 4 posts are reserved for the advisors and the rest for citizen registry and the ensuing senate and governor races.

I'd like to be foreign advisor, but I think it should include the UN jurisdiction as well.

Sounds like you have set this up in a strict fasion. Look at team 1, they are discussing which donut is the tastiest ;) I also think that the thread's name should indicate Game of Republic. Those are my 2 votes :)

I would say that the Emperor's personal advocate is not truly useful, as he has no real role, save UN rep. and having him UN rep takes away from the foreign advisor, IM(not so)HO.

Spacetrvler
Dec 11, 2002, 04:01 PM
well the reason behind my madness on the emp adv is he is the deputy and adds votes to the commitee
and you are the foriegn advisor and you have recieved the un rep spot

Alright!

Ok guys, get ready! The game is about to start!

Spacetrvler
Dec 16, 2002, 11:13 PM
Ok. First thing is first the name of the Capital will be Astonia and I will be the governor. For the other guys, I'm sorry but I must establish rule. the next city(to be known as Spacedria) is up for grabs and so on and so forth.

Plexus
Dec 16, 2002, 11:45 PM
Allright... I'll be the military/ Domestic leaders for now. :)

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 12:14 AM
Yay we got Plexus!

Ok, first order of business:

We should say what level we usually play at, to get an idea of how good we are.

I normally am a regent player, however, I can hold my own in monarch.

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 12:19 AM
I usually play monarch, some emperor

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 12:25 AM
Now lets just hope our emperor can play around that level (no hard feelings if you don't; you still have my full support).

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 12:33 AM
My first true bill to bring up is one regarding slavery: (please note this is not my real life political views).

Due to benifits to all parties when culturizing savages, we should not condone slavery. All in favor?

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 01:09 AM
Are you saying you are against workers, Sir Hygro?

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 01:21 AM
No, nationalist workers are definitely encouraged, but I am saying we should not condone slavery at this time (definitely subject to change during differant time periods, but at this point...)

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 01:24 AM
I agree wth your reasoning.

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 01:28 AM
Depending on our national color, here is my recommendation for the flag. The green one is in the next post. The ram represents strength and dominance. :D

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 01:29 AM
The green version.

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 10:38 AM
Depending on whether we are the green Persia-Astonia or the Blue one, like you said.

I'm curious where the image came from, because I don't want to be the Astonian Art Pirates of Fanatika or whatever, but otherwise it's very cool.

By the way, make sure you download the list of rules.

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 04:16 PM
The emblem is semi-original... I had a tutorial that explained how to make it in photoshop. :)

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 04:20 PM
Awsome. With my being Emperor's Advocate (Vice Prime Minister) and Foreign advisor, I a total of 5 votes, (known to our strange republican constitution), and you get 4, Secretary Plexus, so that makes 9 in favor of this flag.

I believe there is no possible chance of opposition.

Now we must find out which color we are, to make a decision (I hope it's green).

Plexus
Dec 17, 2002, 04:23 PM
The green one does look pretty cool, doesn't it? Do either of you have AIM/MSN/YM?

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 04:25 PM
yes I have AIM.

If Spacetrvler has AIM as well we can use that chatroom instead of the CFC chat or whatever.

Spacetrvler
Dec 17, 2002, 05:28 PM
ok...

here is my post for the day:

1. i like the flag but make the ram bigger
2. why are we talking about slavery, you mean other nationality workers?
3. Less talk on the thread use aim and post something more than one person wants to know
4. my aim is bob6969696969, post yours
5. i play on anywhere from regent to emporer, but i have won on diety twice :)
6. the senate has been closed indefinetly

Hygro
Dec 17, 2002, 07:58 PM
Great! The ram could e slightly bigger, but there's something I like about it's small size.

If you've downloaded the rules, you'll know that captured workers are slaves and bought workers for some reason are refugees. I was just suggesting we go the economic route and not the moral one.

Find the download posted by chieftess in this thread.

Spacetrvler
Dec 17, 2002, 08:05 PM
oh ok
i am all about domination becuase slavery is very much a part of the ancient/ middle/ and colonization ages so in order to be realistic we have to do that ;) thats what well tell them

Is there any way that i can join this republic game on you's guys' team. If yes than i can possibly be the culture advisor. If no than good luck with the game.

Plexus
Dec 18, 2002, 03:53 PM
Sure you can, that is if it were up to me... you'd have to ask our emperor: Spacetrvler.

Hygro
Dec 18, 2002, 03:57 PM
He may be our emperor but it's supposed to be a republic and known to our defunct constitution that I quote anyway, Plexxus and My votes (notice the 'S') override Spacetrvler's, so yeah, you get to be our cultural advisor!

Welcome abaord! Just let Chieftess know by signing up in the RepGame signup thread if you have yet to do so.

Hygro
Dec 18, 2002, 04:48 PM
Ok, I'm awaiting more responses by Chieftess about how much we get to control our constitution, and how much we make up. I feel that both our constitution and Chieftess's are similiar, but if we get our own we should tale the skeleton and revamp it.

For example: Domestic advisor is taken and there is no cultural advisor spot, but Unregister wants to be cultural advisor.

BtW, Unregister, what difficulty level do you play at and what level are you capable of winning? (Just to get an idea, no prejudice either way).

Spacetrvler
Dec 18, 2002, 04:50 PM
ok, heres the thing
i the emporer am allow to veto anything, but i am glad unregister is joining and there is no culture advisor but since hygro and plexus have two jobs you can take one of them

Hygro
Dec 18, 2002, 05:01 PM
Spacetrvler thinks he can veto anything so we'll make him happy and let him believe what he wants (I'm kidding--I'm aware of your veto power, and I acknowledge it).

I'm Foreign advisor and Emperor's Advocate (Vice Prime Minister if Chieftess really wants us playing strictly her rules) for the purposes of being our UN rep. Basically I'm king of foreign affairs.

Plexxus is Military Advisor, which means he plays out combat moves during wartime (Chieftess rules again--this one I support however if we are a more peaceful empire), and domestic, means what we build will not have a public debate but instead an internal thought process by Plexxus. I am willing to hand over half of the emperor's advocate job on pretext that I am UN rep. However, that doesn't mean I'm the only guy who can participate in the UN from our team, as that would be excessively selfish.

Spacetrvler
Dec 18, 2002, 05:07 PM
i am thinking that UN rep should be the foriegn advisors job in the first place so if i increase the points the foriegn advisor gets (with the added jobs) and put unreg into the emps advocate spot, then the power will be evenly spead
so now i am happy

Hygro
Dec 18, 2002, 05:09 PM
Ok so I am FA and UN rep, but no longer Emeror's advocate. This is all fine by me.

Unregister, if you are serious about participating, which I'm am pretty sure you are, then you can be Emperor's advocate.

Hygro
Dec 18, 2002, 09:09 PM
Hey Spacetrvler, you mentioned you would be gone december 21 through January 6th. Please elaborate on what's going on (related to the RepGame--you don't need to say where you are going and why). Also, if our turn is passworded make sure Plexus and I know the password so one of us could play for you like you mentioned.

Spacetrvler
Dec 19, 2002, 10:17 PM
my friend is going to be joining our team and to not show favoritism i would like to ask plexus which postition he wants and the other will go to my friend

Hygro
Dec 19, 2002, 10:25 PM
With 5 players we should have a powerful, fun team full of a lot of good debates. With your friend taking one of Plexus's jobs, there will be more checks and balances. You'll notice the rules for the RepGame suggest or require (Chieftess still hasn't said how absolute she is about this) that to go mobolized, it takes the agreement or majority of Domestic advisor, Military Advisor, and the Prime Minister (Emperor).

This way it won't only be up to Plexus.

P.S. Spacetrvler, to make your link work at the bottom it ends in not (note the bakslash).

I'm trying to get chieftess to answer my questions but she seems pretty busy in the demogame.

I'll drop my military position, I feel that I could make more of a diffrence as the Domestic advisor.

Hygro
Dec 19, 2002, 10:47 PM
I believe we are now done with the various postitions. If you want to be a part of our team it I guess you can be a city governer or just a plain citizen, not unlike the demogame (however I don't think the Repgame has quite enough players to support the imagination of the demogame personal businesses).

What is AIM?

Spacetrvler
Dec 20, 2002, 02:39 PM
A few things on governors for those wondering:

1. Anyone in the Astonian Empire may be a governor. Including the Emporer
2. You are given a city by the reigning emporer and keep it until it is taken from you
3. Once you own a city you may "capture" other cities (by your own means not defined in any laws) owned by existing governors
4. The emporer can exile you from a city.

And the corruption begins :)

Spacetrvler
Dec 20, 2002, 05:18 PM
OK HERE IT IS

I have selected Hygro to play the first turns if it starts before I return. Select the best spot, but dont move around for more than four turns. Build warriors and settlers asap. And research Bronze Working at 100% Science

Hygro
Dec 20, 2002, 08:03 PM
We will start with bronze working. I'll get Iron working instead.

AIM is aol instant messenger.

You can get it here (http://www.aol.com)

When you get a screen name PM (private message) one or all of us what it is so we can communicate oustide this forum.

Well, I'm really conflicted weather to go for Iron or Alphabet, here's my current queue:

1. Iron/ Alphabet
2. Alphabet/ Iron
3. Writing

Hygro
Dec 23, 2002, 06:46 PM
Sounds good. I or Spacetrvler will make sure we do one of those. The sooner we get writing (and meet the other republics), the sooner we can do UN negociations. (please tell me how to spell it--it's bothering me).

Ok, so, suggested build queues:

Warrior
Spearman
Warrior
Settler

Hygro
Dec 24, 2002, 01:13 AM
while you ARE domestic advisor, and military advisor until spacetrvler's friend shows up, wouldn't it be best to get that settler out the very turn the city goes to size three? Granted, I'm not the best player but that always seemed important.

Plexus
Dec 24, 2002, 01:35 AM
Granted, an early settler would be nice, I think that early exploration is paramount, would you feel more comfortable with a Warrior, Spearman, Settler, Warrior queue?

Hygro
Dec 24, 2002, 01:42 AM
yeah, that sounds a little nicer. I believe it also depends on the terrain (imagine a cow on a plains next to a river-- 3 food, 2 shields, and 2 gold once improved)--or something like it. Of course, when whoever plays actually plays, I think it would be wise to be in an AIM sponsered chatroom or something--or CFC chat, but I'm not too familiar with it.

Also, Plexus, Spacetrvler: you two got my AIM address right?

Plexus
Dec 24, 2002, 02:54 AM

Hygro
Dec 24, 2002, 12:42 PM
It's because it's not main account--I made it for something or another, but that didn't work out, so I kept it for a junkmail account on netscape and an AIM account for strangers :) or people online whom I need to chat with directly/trade files with etc.

Spacetrvler
Dec 25, 2002, 04:50 PM
ok... let us see... 2 warriors(for explaration) spearman for protection then a settler then 2 spearman then a settler sounds good for the first 40 or so turns of the game... also iron working is first to allow the construction of immortals and since the un wonthelp too awfully much in the beginging we can get writing later... after iron working we we have big debates... and hygro dont worry the game is not going to quickly... ps u have access to a civ 3 ptw compatible comp for the next 2 days so i am will ing tto play and post a few screen shots etc. well gl to you i will be available for the next 2 days but then i will be busy for a while until the 5th and then i will be back for ever...

Unregister
Dec 26, 2002, 11:23 AM
i believe that you shouldn't build a settler until the capital is at least a four. This is always my strategy because i find when i build a settler when i am only a three the city gets really crappy. But if i go from a 4 to a 2 then the city is still relatively good enough to make spearmen or some improvements or other units. But when the city goes from a 3 to a 1 they become horrible and can't produce anything.

Plexus
Dec 26, 2002, 01:21 PM
I don't agree, they can still produce and it takes under ten turns for them to get back to 2.

Spacetrvler
Dec 26, 2002, 09:09 PM
ahh, but the object of the early game is to make more cities than your opponent and quicker so that when expansion is complete your production base will be larger and thouhg 4-2 cities are good in the short term 3-1 is better in the long run... only does the capital stop producing settlers when there is a good wonder to build and/or there are 3 or more settler producing cities

do we want to go for quick expansion (warriors, settlers, and spearman),

i vote either this one above that i took out of your quote or an alternate.

which would be barracks and warriors/spearmen with a temple somewhere in there and once u get enough military influence build a couple of quick settlers.

the city of Spacia will be founded on a lake, surrounded by grassland with two bonuses in the first boundary.

it will be sent on :)

Pretty much i think most of the other teams are either gone or fogot about this because it took so long to get going. Pottery....that isn't a very good tech....i always get that from goody huts or trade for it.
